Don't know about a gas gun, but at one time some gun hack wrote that with a .308 there was little velocity difference between barrel lengths. At that time I had a Remington 788 with a 20 inch barrel and a Remington 700 Varmit with a 24 in barrel and a chronograph. Tested them both with the same loads and sure enough no difference.

Couldn't get them to group in a .260 or .270. No hunting experience with them.

I've always used the shoot one clean x 5, shoot 2 clean x two, shoot three clean x 2, then shoot 5 and clean, I've used this method for years no matter a custom barrel or factory, the only thing I've noticed that they are easier to clean afterwards with less copper fouling. Just my two cents.
