Years ago I was talking to an Army guy that was guarding the fence between East and West Germany, he said that the Commies had an explosive on their fence line that sensed motion, when ever someone tried to get to the other side they were usually blown to bits. Seems cheaper than an actual wall.

How many shots does a barrel burn out
10Turkeys replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
To completely shoot out a barrel would take a lot. I've gone through more than twenty and none of them were totally shot out, they just wouldn't group at the longer ranges that I shoot, 385 and 500 meters. Typically a 708 would get about 7000 rounds, a 308 would get about 8000, and a 260 or a 6.5x 47 lapua about 3500. A friend of mine who liked a 243 usually got about 1500. I'm told that more hunting rifles are damaged by improper cleaning than being shot out. Also I never rechambered a barrel, but the ones that I have talked to that did said that it was good for about another 800 rounds, for a hunting rifle that's a lot of life, but if your shooting some kind of competition it's not much if you were paying someone to do it for you. -
I know one thing for sure, that there isn't enough BBQ sauce, garlic or onion that is going to make them taste half way decent. My buddy has made sausage out of them the last few years. They aren't half bad mixed with enough pork and other spices.

Rechambering my Ruger MK II
10Turkeys replied to Barnesboy's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
What you have read on the above post are just about gospel. I had a Ruger 77 Mark ll, that wouldn't shoot, after having the action trued, and a Douglas barrell put on and bedded, I could have bought two Remingtons. On the upside I later put a Hart barrel on it and it was a tack driver. -
Sometimes happens, but it is rare. That primer looks like it should have went off. I've seen it happen where the firing pin spring is gummed with excess oil and it's just tapping the primer, or the firing pin head had been peened. Kleindorst makes a tool for Rem 700's to remove the firing pin from the bolt housing.

I had a lucky hunting t-shirt featuring Larry Bird. Upon finding no paper in my backpack, I was given a choice between the t-shirt and my map. Still have the map. Haven't had the same luck without the t-shirt.

Thanks azsugarbear, O'Connor was a big fan of Bill Sukalle barells, he had a shop on Washington and about 13th st. I've seen two of them and they were well marked. Benchrest shooters have been playing with gain twist barrels recently, don't know if they have had any luck with them.

That .270 that was built to O'Connors specs have a Sukalle barrel on it by chance?

In my Airborne class book there is a section in the back that briefly discusses different Airborne units. I imagine that some of the things that happened while you were a child probably were not pleasant, but if anyone hasn't ever said it before, your Dad was Hardcore!

I hope that Trump does drain the swamp, and I hope that he politically bitch slaps McCain and Flake around. But first thing I'd like to see is him getting rid of Obama care.

AzDiamondHeat, Don't think you will get any takers. My best guess is that Maybe one in twenty five could do it.

Old Fart here too! My personal thoughts are if your not spending so much time at a range shooting at those kind of distances that you are getting your mail delivered there, you shouldn't be taking a shot at a game animal at those kind of distances. But times have changed.

Long before long range hunting and shooting became the rage, a now dead gun writer said There are a heck of a lot of four hundred yard rifles sitting in the racks of 50 yard riflemen.

Way back then the US didn't understand/ did nothing about terrisom. In 1980 I was in Italy for a NATO exercise, every Italian barracks had a M-60 machine gun placement in front of it, locked and loaded. The Red Brigade was active then and the Italians understood what terrisom was. When Ollie North was being grilled in front of God and country for the Iran- Contra deal, some Senator ask him about a security system that he just had installed in his house. North told them yes in indeed was installed because he was threatened by a terrorist, when asked who the terrorist was, he replied Osama Bin Laden, they found it humourous then.

The gal that works in the office is a big Cubs fan, and was posting the W in the window facing the parking area. I found a better spot for it.

The Benchrest Nationals are going on right now at Ben Avery, you might want to find out what the current rage in actions are over there.
