Annealing for accuracy
10Turkeys replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I shoot a 6.5x47 Lapua and I use factory brass which comes pre annealed, I set my dies to bump the shoulder back two thousandths, normally I replace the brass after a barrel change, but with the last 300 plus cases I have used three barrels. -
I know two things! One is that Stanley wanted the ammo so he bought it, more power to him. The second thing I know is that ALYUAZ must not of had any friends on this site, because I didn't have to suffer the first three post after the listing saying Wow Bro what a great buy, what a great price and what a great guy!

Well I'm no snake guy, but I've talked to a lot of guys that's been around a few Cowboys! One claimed that the pink ones were those that had recently shed their skin, made sense to me! Another thing is why is is that some people get bitten and they have a terrible time long afterwards including nerve damage and some don't. I have heard that not all bites contain venum and that a mature snake knows exactly how much it will take according to the one getting the bites size, where as a young snake gives you a full shot no matter what. At one job I had we had to take a first aid class every two years, I ask one Paramedic that was giving a class about snake bites, since there was several around, and he said that most snake bites are treated with a shot of Benadril to keep the swelling down and to keep your airways open, and that anti venum was rarely used due to its availability and cost.

What scale do you like?
10Turkeys replied to deserthntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Rather than spend your money on a scale, might think about a bench rest type powder meter, I have a Harrels that I load nothing but Varget in and most charges are dead on or within one tenth. Just my .02. -
Not a real big fan of Lester, but from what I understand the reason that he has powder when the others don't, is that he will pay the suppliers more to get it. Not to say that he isn't gouging the heck out of us shooters. Last year I stopped at a Grafs store just outside of St. Louis, bought 2pounds of Varget for 28.00 each with tax, Bruno was selling it then for 34.00 plus tax.

I think the one word that best describes dealing with this or any other Government agency is BOHICA, or bend over here it comes again!

Can't help you with prone or kneeling, but if you are serious about prone, drop a twenty on Tubbs book High Power Rifle, got them on Amazon. Covers the three shooting positions and the mental side of shooting also.

I am going to design and make a bullet that actually finds deer and drops them in their tracks, I'm thinking of three different grades. First the Dink bullet, you fire off a round and the bullet finds the deer and he is down, no frills. Second grade is the Buddy Envy bullet, once the gun is fired the bullet finds at least a 100 inch buck and automatically sends pictures to all of your buds on your contact list. Third the Ultimate bullet, fire the gun bullet finds the biggest deer out there, when it is close to a road, sends GPS cords to you for pick up, sends text messages to your Skinner, packer, taxidermist, and green scores it right there. Just haven't figgered out what the market would be on these bullets.

Good Rifle For My Girlfriend
10Turkeys replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Wouldn't look past a .260 Remington either. -
PM sent.

I'll throw in my .02, first I'll take a guess and say that your target was at 100 yards and you were shooting at Rio, judging from the target. I would rule out wind with that 7 mag, takes quite abit to move that bullet around at 100, next question was you shooting factory ammo or handloads? With handloads you might try getting your bullet seated about 8-15 thousands off the lands unless your using one that recommends further, ie Barnes. None of those groups are that bad, would kill anything walking in this state and any other, but everyone likes smaller groups! Bedding is also an option, another thing that I personally like to do is use the target in the center for groups so I can make sure my cross hairs are dead center everytime.

I always turn to the prestigious firm of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe!

I know that the Tucson Rod and Gun Club sells it, they give their members a discount also, there was a guy selling it on the backpage but I haven't seen his post for awhile. Reclaimed shot usually sells for about half the price of regular shot, it still may be cheaper to buy the 100 round box of Federals, Winchester, or Remingtons. My MEC has quite abut of dust on it.

Don't know if you found one or not, but The Nov issue of American Rifleman has them for sale by the Old Western Scrounger, Remington made,$160.00. ows-ammo.com 304-274-0004. FFL required.

New Remington 700 in 7mm RM
10Turkeys replied to khmer6's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The 7 RM is a very fast, very flat shooting, capable of taking anything walking in this state and most others. Never heard of anyone shooting cast bullets in one though, it would be like taking a Derby winner and giving pony rides at the fair. I use IMR-4350 with a Nosler AB in mine, groups really well. -
Try Sinclair part#749-000-747SN, phone#800-717-8211.

I have flown a total of 8 times with my guns, I just had a lock on it that I picked up at Wal-mart, they are a key lock. No problems with TSA about the locks. Before I flew anywhere with my guns I was told that Southwest Airlines is the most gun friendly, but that sometimes your gun would come off with the luggage instead of going to the baggage claim room like it's supposed to, everytime that I have flown it's been with Southwest and my gun has come off with the luggage 3 out of 8 times, so that is something to watch for. Everyone knows what a gun case looks like, so make sure your guns go home with you and not a stranger!

To answer your question how long can you shoot? I would say stop when your barrel starts getting warm. Back in the day an 06 was all that was used at Perry, so you are good out to 5-600 yards. Most Savages will shoot right out of the box. My best advise is to do like my buddy Stomp does, practice, practice, and then practice some more. The plus side with an 06 is barrel life, all things being equal.

Within the past ten years, I have used a Nosler Partition bullet, but I have shot a Javelina this year with a .30 Cal 150gr Sierra Game King, taken a couple of Coues with a 30 Cal 150gr Hornady Interlock, anyone ever have a problem with a bullet considered non premium? I saw a forkie Coues once that was shot three times with a factory Rem core loct in a 150gr 7mm Mag, Man that deer was chewed up.

I've seen that pig hanging around!

While we are discussing 6.5's, on a whim I picked up a Savage chambered in 6.5x284 yesterday. I have plenty of experience with 6.5's in .260, 6.5x55, 6.5x47 Lapua using match bullets from 107s,108s,123s, 139s,140s,and 142s, from Lapua,Sierra, and Barnes, however very little with hunting bullets, I have shot the Sierra 140 SPBT and wasn't too impressed with them, any suggestions on bullets for Coues?

All I know before I fired a shot with this rifle it brought a tear to my eye. First stop was Brunos for brass, of course Lapua was the only one in stock, up side it will last forever. Next stop Sportsmans Warehoue for dies, RCBS D type not the cheap A type then a box of factory ammo, holey moley 52 bucks without tax. I started reloading when I was 17, can't remember the last time I bought factory ammo, but it wasn't 52 dollars.

Haven't had a drink in quite awhile, so haven't had a reason to be in any bars, but I was passing through Claypool one winters am about three or four years ago, and this rather large size Native American male was dancing outside of the Shamrock, my bet is that there has been a vat of blood spilled on that floor.

From what I understand some of those big deer states won't issue a buck tag unless you get 5 does first. In those states there are probably more deer wacked on the road than we have in this state.
