  3. As every hunting season comes and goes, not only do I notice the caliber of coues bucks harvested getting better, but the quantity of good bucks taken gets larger. I think these discussion forums contribute greatly to trophy hunter education. Are we not getting better at judging bucks in the field? From seeing pictures posted with scores, to "guess the score" contests, we must be. What I see happening more often is hunters letting bucks "walk". Betting on their abilities to find and kill a bigger buck, and being okay with eating tag soup if we don't. Basically letting smaller bucks, get bigger, Of course, we all become better hunters (hopefully) as hunts go by. Maybe that contributes also, but with better glassing techniques becoming the norm, attention to rifle /caliber/ scope selections, and the confidence to make educated shots by using rangefinders etc. we must be, in some way, policing ourselves. In turn, the units we hunt in, slowly become better with the chances at a 100" coues buck being better. I thought this would make good discussion, plus I wanted to hear different takes on this. Discuss.

    Aaryn's First hunt

Fantastic write up and stellar pictures! Aaryn, I'm glad you took the time to give it to us in your own words. From the sounds of it, you are well on your way to being a great huntress. I know your Dad is as proud of you as you are of yourself, and you should be. You know that feeling you got right after you downed your pig with that first shot? I always tell people that I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world. It doesn't always come together on hunts, but I'm glad it did for you. I hope you continue hunting, finding success, and sharing it with us. Congratulations girl!

    Bino Advice

Will you be wearing these mostly around your neck for hand held scanning? On a tripod? Quality between the two not being an issue, the magnification is of concern. It's tough to hold 12 power stable when hand held, even the 10 power comes alive on a tripod. Strictly hand held= 10x Tripod= 12x

    Unit 31 December Hunt

Looks like a great season. Congrats to all the fortunate hunters and again, thanks for joining to share your pics!
  12. First of all, Thanks for sharing the pictures and story with us here. I know how sensitive people can get sometimes with these things, and rightly so. It's great to give the buck the credit he deserves and allow everyone to enjoy it. Secondly, it's AWESOME that you guys were persistent in tracking the deer. Not only able to find him, but finish the deal on a buck of many lifetimes. That' a lot of hard work! Many congratulations to the hunter and his crew. Spot and stalk, unbelievable!! Great job guys!

    ADA Banquet...

Looks like it was a tough time for a lot of people in regards to scheduling conflicts. I know I encountered a lot of people who were on the fence dependent on their prior commitments. The banquet crept up on us this year but in actuality, this year it would have been five months sooner than last years success. I think it was a good idea to postpone it, it will turn out to be a better function in the end. We'll set aside a few tables for CW'ers!

Amanda, My parents called "dibs" on em again this year. It's becoming a family tradition. Let me know what you decide, there are always seats/tickets left over. You think we can pull off another table? This would be a first and would be great!

    JAGUAR MACHO B

There are some older threads on this very topic. I hate to see what can happen in regards to closures of Southern units in the state because of all this as well. I'm sure if you search the term "jaguar" you'll get many hits on the forum.
