I can tell you put a lot of effort into those. Potassium permanganate is something that works really well (I've used it myself) --- you may want to try it next time: www.taxidermy.net/forum/index.php/topic,72467.0.html Here's a video showing the use of potassium permanganate (about 20 min. long): www.youtube.com/watch?v=reAoZQ7h7z8

A few years back (maybe 10 or so?), I downloaded a pic from the internet onto my phone showing a woman holding an EXTREMELY heavy elk horn (I can't remember if it was just one side or an entire rack). Unfortunately, I lost the pic (and all others) when my phone shorted out from water. The horn(s) didn't look anything like the Yellowstone elk descendents now roaming Arizona; can't remember if they were from western N. Mex. or eastern Arizona. Does anyone else remember these? Could this be what azbackwoods' brother has?

I talked to a San Carlos G&F LEO I know yesterday (I've been fishing the Black for 30 years). He said the White Mtn tribe has done some restocking since the fire, but it isn't in the plans for the San Carlos tribe. Was told it would probably be another 2-3 years before the smallmouth fishing gets back to what it was before the fire ...

"Mountain Lions and Bighorn Sheep" / NatGeoWild at 9 p.m. tonite
Lv2hnt posted a topic in The Campfire
Spent 4 days last week up on House Rock chasing lions with a couple friends and their dogs. Dry ground (no snow), on foot. They helped Az. G&F a while back, catching a couple desert lions while NatGeoWild filmed an episode with Casey Anderson. Most of the dogs shown on the program were with us last week. A pretty good program you might want to watch! Tough catching lions in our Arizona desert --- for me, absolutely! -

Most of us know the importance of not eating under-cooked pork. Similar care should be taken when it comes to bear meat! Here's a really good video from Steve Rinella, the "Meat Eater" on TV (bon appetite!):

Sometimes I'm surprised I can still hear elk bugles in September (and what direction they're coming from) that some younger guys I'm with can't. 12,000 Hz comes in loud and clear; 15,000 is a blank for me now. Check it out ... www.yahoo.com/health/try-it-can-you-hear-these-sounds-only-young-112627654778.html

Amanda, thanks for bursting my bubble (lol) --- got nothing at 14,000 Hz. Oh well, not so bad for my age, I guess ...

In case you haven't checked the bighorn sheep forum this week, some important work is happening this weekend --- a great bunch of folks focused on another important task. If you've never helped out on a conservation work project before, you're missing out (also a great way to show young people how they can give back to wildlife) ...

Hey all --- The ADBSS will be putting the final touches on the Scadden/Hook water catchment southeast of Quartzsite in the South Plamosa Mountains this weekend, Feb. 27 - Mar. 1. The 1st weekend's work saw most of the preliminary digging completed for the storage pipe, collection feed line and walk-in drinking trough. The goal is to complete the assembly work this weekend (hope to have things pretty much wrapped up by end of day Saturday). ALL volunteers welcome --- you DON'T have to be a current sheep society member to join in and help give back to our state's wildlife! Youth/family members are welcome as well. Note: Saturday evening dinner and Sunday breakfast provided. I plan on leaving for the project Friday --- got room for someone else in my truck if you want to come help and check out what the ADBSS is all about. Awesome volunteers donating their time to a great cause! Here's a link to the project: www.adbss.org/2015-02_Hook_Scadden_Tank.pdf You can call me if interested or would like more info: (480)760-3868 (I'm in Gilbert) ... --- Tom
