    Dick's (sporting goods) shriveling up

Lots of good memories when I was a manager with Sunset Sports here in the Valley back in the '80s! Hunting, fishing, and camping departments brought me many friendships over the years ...

Conserve and Protect (Tags) Presentation at G&F Mtg

If you have an interest in wildlife and hunting here in Arizona in the future, might be a good idea to make time to attend the next G&F meeting the first week of June!!! And make yourself heard beforehand (don't wait until the last minute) via emails to the G&F commissioners the next couple weeks (concerning both the money raising/tag issue as well as the proposed game camera restrictions) ...

    When to buy Point Guard

Yes, you can use Point Guard just once per specie; so the next (2nd) time you draw the tag it's yours and you must use it that season. Life has unknown risks --- you pays your money and takes your chances ... SunDevil, just wanted to say you're a stand-up guy with your idea. Well played!

    When to buy Point Guard

NOTE: If you determine you can't/won't go on a hunt and you've purchased Point Guard (for any big game specie), rather than giving your tag back to Game & Fish, you can donate your tag to Arizona Elk Society's Hunts for Heroes (Heroes Rising Outdoors) program. We'll make sure to walk the needed forms through with Game & Fish so you retain your bonus points. A Win-Win for both you and a disabled Arizona veteran! Put my cell # in your Phone: (480)760-3868 ... --- Tom

G&F live comission meeting on NOW!!!

The commission voted 2-2 on approving proposals within Item #15 concerning taking of wildlife within Article 3 Rules. Everything within that was put on hold for a month pending further commission study. Why? The main issue was the 1/4 mile distance from water for game cams proposal. It was clear the recent emails/letters sent to the commissioners against that trail cam ban made an impact. The commission will be looking into/considering possible game cam rules which wouldn't incorporate such a blanket restriction ... ??? No live adversaries concerning the air bow; one live proponent spoke in favor of it. I believe the approval of air bow use will be passed by G&F. https://s3.amazonaws.com/azgfd-portal-wordpress/azgfd.wp/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/02135502/2018-05-04-Agenda-Rev1.pdf

  12. Hey guys, looks like we've got things covered now. A HUGE thanks to everyone who offered up their blinds! Our program wouldn't experience the success we've had without you the volunteers --- kudos to you all!!!
  13. Hunts for Heroes has 3 vets going turkey hunting on North Kaibab this weekend (leaving Thursday). We would like to borrow a pop-up blind for the hunt if anyone has one they'd be willing to loan out (vets are leaving from Gilbert area). Believe it or not, I've gotten reports that toms were already gobbling up there the end of January into February this year (crazy, right?). Received reports from friends up north that hunted Kaibab the past few days that it's been one TOUGH bugger of a hunt, with little or no talking going on. That said, we're thinking sitting a blind might give the vets their best chance at tagging out. So, who has a pop-up they could spare for a few days? Give me a call: (480)760-3868. Thanks for your help! --- Tom

    How bout them Devils!

Bob, I beg to differ on UofA fans being the sore losers (a lot of Devil followers wear that title comfortably, if you're honest). Here's the deal, the rivalry between the two schools (and communities) will continue into the future. As long as we can maintain some degree of decency trash talking, I think we can all have some chuckles. To be truthful, neither Arizona nor ASU are top-tier schools in football, and the Cats have had their problems advancing to the Final Four in basketball. Hopefully, things will improve in the near future (fingers crossed!). One thing I think we can ALL agree on >>> we have a JOKE of a PAC-12 commissioner in Larry Scott! The PAC-12 TV network contract DOES NOT reward the member schools financially to the degree it should ($$$). And living out here in the western time zones, we'll never get the respect other schools receive from the "powers" that be back east until a better set-up comes about with regards to TV coverage and game times scheduled (and days played) ...

    New Cardinal's QB

I'm thinking that with the new coach and DJ ready to tear it up behind an improved O-line, look for the Cards to go to quick slants and outs to their receiver corps (which still needs MUCH upgrading!), and not so much the "risk it biscuit" downfield of BA ...

    New Cardinal's QB

    1) Bradford fills the QB gap for the next year, maybe two (pray he stays healthy enough to start a minimum dozen games per year). If not for his injuries, might actually be one of best QBs in NFL ... 2) Trade up to draft QB (I still like Mayfield ... ???) 3) Pick up a more-skilled veteran back-up QB (which they did today in Mike Glennon, who is football smart) 4) Sign 2-3 experienced NFL offensive linemen >>> concentrate on re-establishing a run-first game with DJ! 5) Also pick up couple GOOD O-Linemen in draft 6) Need to address wide receiver position!!! 7) Budda Baker is 4 years younger than Tyrann Mathieu , and is an upcoming talent with good knees! Releasing Honey Badger a biz decision (he may not get as good a deal out there and may reconsider Cards, you never know) ... Piece of cake, Jake --- right???

    Hunters education ???’s

Don Martin is who you should call! "For those non-residents who are still seeking a permanent bonus point and need to take the Arizona Hunter Education class to get it, the last Supplemental class for 2018 will be held on March 24th, here in Kingman. This is a one-day class; hours from 7 a.m. till about 5 p.m. Class size is limited in the numbers who can attend, so go to the Arizona Game & Fish website; look for Hunter Education, then look for the classroom section and for the March 24th date. Sign up and get your flight reservations made! Remember we are just 100 miles from Las Vegas. The only requirement to take this class is that you must have taken Hunter Education in another state since 1980 and must be able to send your card to me via, FAX, text, or email. No card, no class; doesn't matter how old you are or how many years you've been hunting. Anyone younger than 14 years old must have the Chief Instructor's permission to take the class and of course must have taken and graduated from Hunter Education in another state. This is a fast paced and advanced class; if students are not familiar with hunting, they may struggle with the final exam. A local motel will offer rooms at a small discount for those coming in for the class. Give me call for details. Graduate from the class and you will earn that permanent bonus point. Remember the draw for deer and sheep is coming up? Any questions? Call or text me at 928-303-9481." Don Martin Chief Instructor Region 3 For those who want to take this Supplemental class here is how to register step-by-step. Got to www.AZGFD.gov, and click on HUNTING. 22. O'Neal will stay with UCLA --- the Ball family is no longer connected to the school, plus it's close to home. Really sucks how ESPN's "reporting" has turned talented kids away from a good (not perfect) program ...

    How bout them Devils!

NCAA has been mired in its own ineptitude for years, and I for one am not optimistic about the leopard changing its spots. Here's a thought provoking approach: https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-is-broken-and-heres-the-only-way-the-ncaa-can-fix-the-sport/
