    How bout them Devils!

SunDevil, too bad Kaopectate works mainly on the other end. Hey, I've been a college sports fan all my life. But not to the degree I need to get that worked up about it ...

    How bout them Devils!

Palleze --- the media in the Valley tells no more truth than that in Tucson ... How quickly Devil fans forget the serious troubles ASU has gone through over the years. Time will tell concerning UofA's standing with NCAA, etc. We'll see how the FBI issue also plays out beyond the schools already implicated (the grapevine says there's approx. 30 more schools yet to be named). UofA has already bitten the bullet this year, losing three 2018 top-tier recruits to other schools. The team will lose this year's entire starting line-up, plus a couple more players, so this is THE year to crack the Final Four. They were a 5th seed in '97 when they went on to beat three #1s on the way to winning it all, so while you never can predict how the Cats will play on any given night this year, I'm not counting them out. It really looks like it's TRULY wide open with no team having a tight grip on a path to the trophy (take a look at the games lost just this week by teams at/near the top). Whoever ends up standing at the end will have earned it! Next year's UofA team will build its own identity ...
  3. TOMORROW'S THE DAY!!! $10 raffle tickets for AR and .380 pistol / .270 rifle will be in bucket raffle (with many other bucket raffle items) ... Great people, food, music, raffles, with some awesome weather! Come on out to support Hunts for Heroes and disabled Arizona veterans. HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU THERE!
  4. HEY ALL --- IT'S HERE!!! Our 2nd annual motorcycle ride for Arizona Elk Society's Hunts for Heroes --- Saturday, February 17! BIGGER AND BETTER!!! Same location as last year >>> Superstition Harley-Davidson in Apache Junction (NE corner Apache Trail / Meridian). GREAT day to get out and help our disabled veterans here in Arizona on the way to some Healing through Hunting! NOTE: Only 100 raffle tickets will be sold for Glock .380 pistol / Only 250 raffle tickets will be sold for AR rifle! (firearm raffles will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday) If you're not a biker, no worries --- come out and get in on the raffles, great music, and make some new friends!

    How bout them Devils!

Hard to figure why UofA has so many problems this year given the talent they have. ??? Hurley is the coach you hate, unless he's your coach. He's done okay with the players he's got this year (guards/3-point shooters, but needs improvement in the front line). Truth --- ASU will get better as a result of his/ASU's improved recruiting. All that being said, Hurley will only be in Tempe until Coach K hangs it up at Duke (you can quote me on that) ...

    Tags to donate

Good chatting with you just now, Chris --- thanks for donating your tags to Hunts for Heroes! And thanks go out to everyone who has supported our program for disabled Arizona veterans these past couple years! We look forward to your continued participation going forward. NOTE: So everyone knows, we do have need of volunteer "guides" for this #37B javelina hunt, as well as a javelina hunt based out of 19A (in conjunction with Christian Hunters of America's annual mentored hunt). Both hunts start Friday, Feb. 23. These outings are a GREAT way to give back to those vets who gave so dearly! I promise you'll be a better person for the experience (ask anyone who's participated before) ... Thanks again, everyone! Tom Wagner Cell: (480)760-3868

    How bout them Devils!

That last 3-pointer went in for Washington and the Cats slipped 4 spots; if it hadn't, UofA probably moves up 2 or 3. Wildcats have more problems than where they're rated. The potential is there, they just haven't played up to it (yet). The top 3 teams stand head and shoulders above everybody else --- whoever cuts down the Finals net this year will have earned it!
  8. Correct the next AES banquet meeting date to Tues., Jan. 30 (NOT June!) ...
  9. Hey all: Just received a last-minute phone call this morning (Wed., Jan. 10) from an individual wanting to donate his Unit 21 archery javelina tag to Hunts for Heroes (he's working out-of-state and won't be able to make it back in time to hunt). The hunt runs another 2 weeks (last day is Thurs., Jan. 25). Any of you CWTers with the same tag who would be open to inviting a vet out to hunt with you? We haven't selected a veteran yet to transfer the tag to --- always like to have volunteer(s) lined up for hunts before notifying vets. If this is you, please call me ASAP! Thanks! --- Tom (480)760-3868
  10. Hunts for Heroes has recently received two (2) donated elk tags for the Dec. 8 cow hunt in Unit 23. We're reaching out to sportsmen/women who would like to help a couple disabled Arizona veterans get out and put some meat in their families' freezers. The vets for this hunt will be mobile, just perhaps with a bit less stamina afield than most of us. We generally plan on 3- to 4-day hunts (meaning set up camp the day before) and actually hunt Friday - Sunday (maybe thru Monday depending on time availability). "Guide" help in the field is needed, naturally. But we really are in need of some people to help set up and coordinate camp, as well as help cook. All food costs will be covered by Hunts for Heroes. I'm trying to put this hunt together by tomorrow night (Wed., Nov. 29), as I have to leave Thursday morning to meet 16 vets who will be out hunting elk this Friday all across northern Arizona. Then I'm off straight away to other Hunts for Heroes camps the weekend of Dec. 8. Please call me if you think you'd like to help make this Christmas season a little rosier for a couple deserving veterans! Thanks, Tom Cell: (480)760-3868
  11. Hunts for Heroes has had a Ft. Huachuca Coues whitetail tag donated for the hunt running this Friday, Nov. 17 through Nov. 26. A qualified vet now has the tag in his name. He has had experience on Ft. Huachuca before. He will sponsor access for those volunteering to help. The glitch --- volunteer help for the hunt is now unavailable. The Hero for this hunt has been part of our program for a while (he just recently drove all the way to Unit 9 just to shoulder the duties of camp cook for 2 other vets' elk hunt!). He deserves a good experience on this hunt. He can get around, just needs to rest now and then while walking around. It looks like this is the ONLY whitetail hunt going on this weekend. Who might free up some time to help this vet tag out? If would be awesome if you're available for this Friday's hunt start! If you can only help for Saturday and Sunday, that would be great as well. If your availability is close but doesn't quite mesh, contact us and let's talk. Food is provided! Just bring your personal stuff. We will get camp location off-post to you. Call me: (480)760-3868

    Fair Chase in Arizona ...

So, the issue of bow hunting within 1/4 mile of an occupied building has already been cussed and discussed on another CWT thread ... Two other things (technology-wise) G&F is presented with > 1) drones and 2) trail cameras. The use of drones by the hunting fraternity has already been clamped down on by G&F departments in other states. Probably more to come here on that too, and rightly so (I think back to the '80s and guys flying chute planes). On another note, Ariz. G&F might be looking at the placement of trail cameras near water holes, catchment/drinkers, or the like --- maybe a 1/4 mile buffer? I never used a trail camera until 3 years ago --- hate to think I contributed to the problem. ???

    Watch those replaceable blades knives

Adam: Thanks for getting Mike in touch! Working on getting the right vet lined up to use his donated tag. Already got a former H4H volunteer guide who has the same tag offer up an invite to share camp with him and several of his buddies who will be helping.
  14. Was just notified by one of our Hunts for Heroes vets that she's looking to buy a CLEAN used trailer she can take to the mountains. She has a Hemi Dodge 4x4; will be using receiver hitch. Looking for one in the neighborhood of 20 ft. long. Slide-out would be a plus! Let me know if you have or know of one: (480)760-3868 --- thx!!!
  15. Got the help we needed. Thanks to those who made time in their schedules this weekend!
  16. Throwing this out there --- we've received donated bull elk archery tags (1 each) for Units 10 and 22North. Hunt starts Friday next week (Nov 17 - 30). Flexible on actual hunt dates for the vet, 3-4 days. Any of you hunting then/there who would be willing to welcome a veteran into your camp? Maybe you have someone already in camp, or know of someone, who would like to help a veteran who's an archer find a bull? Please call me: (480)760-3868 Big time thanks!!! --- Tom
  17. Mike: No worries --- good luck up in 6a!

    Tags up for donation

5guys: Hunts for Heroes is always grateful for donated tags, but as Lee (300RUM) already stated, it's a logistics nightmare with last minute tags. At this late date, we just won't be able to make it work with your tags. TO ALL CWTers OUT THERE: Our partnering with Ariz.G&F mandates that we provide the entire hunting experience --- we don't just hand the donated tags over to disabled vets and say "go have fun!" This entails finding willing, knowledgeable volunteers who want to give back to those vets who themselves gave so much. Yes, H4H has grown exponentially this year. But our success rests directly on the shoulders of selfless volunteers! Truthfully, the number of hunts we're able to put together is limited by the number of outdoorsmen/women who step up to the plate. It just doesn't happen without a solid volunteer army! We always have need of people who want to assist vets in the field, help with camp set-up / break down, cook, and help with varied logistics. A weekend here and there can work wonders! In short --- we need more help!!! That means during the next several weeks. Don't think someone else will pick up the reins. YOU be that person! Those who've already helped out will tell you it's one of the most rewarding things they've ever done ... Give me a call! (480)760-3868
  19. Thanks, but things changed ...
  20. All Hunts for Heroes hunts are ready to go with good volunteers stepping up to the plate --- 6 more disabled vets will be elk hunting tomorrow morning, Oct. 20 ... MEGA THANKS, PEOPLE!!!
  21. Hunts for Heroes has 2 disabled Arizona veterans assigned to 2 donated tags for the Oct. 20 (this coming Friday) rifle cow hunt in Unit 9. These 2 vets are really looking forward to getting away from the city and spending a few days in Arizona's great outdoors. We had an experienced volunteer (and his friend) who was going to be the "guide" for this hunt, but he's had to bow out unexpectedly. I'm reaching out to CWT to see if any of you might be free this coming weekend to help 2 Arizona vets put some meat in the freezer? Ideally for Thursday - Sunday, but at this late date we'd be happy for any/all days we could get. We don't have to worry about how big the rack is on this hunt --- just have to find a couple of well-nourished cows who'd be willing to go home in ice chests. Anyone??? You'll have a great time, guaranteed ... You can call me: (480)760-3868
  22. Larry hadn't picked up a firearm since being shot several times while serving during a 1988 conflict. We got him "back in the saddle" at Rio Salado gun range before his elk hunt. He ended up tagging out on a fat spike elk and was happy as could be ...
  23. FYI, we could still use some help with this hunt. We have hunt location identified (easy to get to), but more bodies in camp would be a plus! Good food provided, just bring yourself and your own tent, cot, etc. Let's get these vets some meat in the freezer!
  24. Jim, thanks so much for replying! Please give me a call: (480)760-3868. Brian, I'd like to talk to you too ...
