Bear unit is closing, truck is in the shop, what to do...?
Couestracker replied to Pine Donkey's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Awesome! Looks like it "bearly" fit in the trunk! Congratulations on the success. How about some of the hunt details/story? Thanks, Tommy. -
A friend of mine invented a rifle holder that's a tripod with rear rods that enable you to move/aim the weapon where you want without having to loosen anything, when you let go, it stays where you aimed it. Works really slick. I told him about this thread, so I'm hoping he chimes in.

That's fantastic! So happy for all of you!

Stony Creek bipod, adjustable height, can shoot on a canted hill (rubber head), snaps on a mount that attaches to a sling point. Like to shoot from seated position if possible, glassing that way too. Got my longest called/shot coyote, 175 yds while I was seated comfortably in the shade. Took several deer and elk prone and off hand also. I carry a small break-down bipod for pistol hunts and have used them for long shots with some success. Also good for kneeling with a rifle, used it in Wyoming to take some antelope at 200+ yds.

SOLD Weatherby .300 Magnum Mark V Ultra Lightweight

How's it shoot? -
Me and my hunting partners use them all the time and they've increased our success rate considerably. We use the neoprene ear buds. Deer and javelina hunting especially, we have notched double kills several times, just call the other guy when animals are found and help each other with the location or stalk. Just have Motorola models, but work great.

Travel Plans: Any one here been to New Zealand?
Couestracker replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in The Campfire
My wife Julie and I and another couple went this past February. It wasn't a hunting trip (big on my mind though). We rented a "camper van" (RV) and drove up from the South Island and took a ferry to the North Island and drove up it. Stayed in "holiday parks" (rv campgrounds) the whole way and did a lot of fun stuff along the way. I suspect you want only info about hunting, but if you want details about our adventure, feel free to pm me and I'll share it with you. But I still want to hunt a stag!! Tommy -
IA Born: My wife and I had Polaris quads and loved them, but a couple of 4 degree elk hunts got us a Polaris Ranger. I went full tilt with a cab, heater, windshield washers, tip-out windshield, removable doors and sun roof and a rear slider. I'll tell you it's awesome on cold/bad weather hunts or camping. With removable doors and the tip out windshield, it gets tons of airflow in warm weather as well. We bought ours new and got an awesome deal in Cottonwood. I found a Polaris Ranger crew on this site and told my friend about it, he give it a quick look and bought it. It had hardly been driven off road and only had 70 hours on it. So they are out there if you look. He bought a 14 ft single axle trailer and tows it with a Toyota Tacoma. He and his kids love it. The Polaris seats 6, has more room than any other UTV. The new Rangers have a longer wheelbase than older ones and the engine is further back which gives more storage under the seats and is a lot quieter than older ones. Also they redesigned the cage for integrated cab panels which fit awesome! Ok, no, I don't work for Polaris. ☺ I favor Kawasaki machines, but opted for the extra seating. I wouldn't put a seat in the bed, as there isn't a roll-over cage back there (I know you can have one put on) and plus you loose capacity for big items (elk!). Hope this helps!

I wished I had information to share! Best of luck, you are living up to your name! I will be thinking about the obvious efforts you have and will yet exert on this buck and try to leverage that as motivation on my own hunt next month. Hope to see the "boss" on the ground come January! Tommy -
