    The AZ One Shot Challenge

You are right a little bit, most hunter's probaly shouldn't be shooting that far. But in this day and age with all the new 300's & WSM's that are out and the info on reloading, new lazer range finders, New scopes by Leupold & Swaroski there are plenty of guy's I know that can and will take all of your equipment. So pony up. I am only speaking for myself. I spend months shooting at distance's of 300-400-500-600 yds. I use a custom 300 RUM,Leupold 6.5-20-50 with two extra wire's for distance. I know for a fact where I'm hitting at all of those distance's. You never know when your going to glass up that buck of a lifetime up. You might not have a chance to get closer. With all of my summer practice I hope it pays off. It has in the past. I've been posting on this site for a while but I been reading it for a lot longer. I don't recall any member's bragging about long range shots. Other than Casey and that 25ft shot at those two lions that were eating from the feeder that Scottyboy let those UDA's carry across the border . I would hope that we all have more respect for the animals that we hunt than to just go taking pot shots. You can have all the equipment to make those long range shots but you have to know how to use it. Let me know what day were shooting.
  2. I noticed that the most users online was this morning at 4:31 A.M. Don't any of you guy's sleep or half to go to work or were you all to exicted to get ready for the march down town. desertsheep

Last chance for tix to ADA banquet

Went to the banquet last night. Met a couple of members. I had the chance to talk to Amanda for awhile. Bought to blitz tickets's They called my number the second time. Ended up taking the 15x56's. Thought it would be good to have a back up pair and some for my boys when they get responsible enough to use them. desertsheep

    Shed and Head

For those of you you read the thread about hunting accidents. I told about three buck being together. On my way to stalk the buck that I killled I found thid shed After I killed my buck the other two bucks just stood around and looked for their fallen buddy. As I watched them in my 10's I noticed that one of the bucks was the deer that I had just picked the shed up from. A month goes by and a friend of mine calls and tells me to bring that shed and and the buck I killed over he wants to show them to a friend of his. He also tells me this friend killed a buck in the same unit as I did. NOW YOUR CATCHING ON.. Low and behold he had killed the buck that I picked the shed up from. I think the shed is two years before he killed the buck. If it's not the same buck it is his twin brother. You can kind of see by the third picture the vein that run's from the base all the way up to the G2. Anyway hope you enjoy tell me what you think. desertsheep
  5. I bet most of those kids have never even been to Mexico. We should load them up and take them down there. Then do you think they would appreciate what they have in this great country. I can't believe that school adminstators would let that go on. These kids don't have any clue what they are even protesting about. desertsheep

    Baiting

Noel, that was my thought exactly.Scottyboy I just might take you up on that hike- athon. I've seen some of your fellow employee's in action down on the Cabeza National Wildlife refuge. And the only thing they are going to beat me to is the seat in their hummer or jeep. Do they issue those vehicle's with a reverse in them cause they take those thing's off road like there is no tomorrow. Scottyboy we do thank you for the job you are doing on the border but could you let a few snake by. I'm needing some extra help right now on some of my jobs. Just joking man. I respect you for standing up for what you believe. It does'nt mean anybody else has to do it. We all have our freedom to choose how we hunt. As long as it's legal and you enjoy doing it then do it. desertsheep

    Off season hobbys???

It seems as though everybody as been to Greer at one time or another. I grew up in the White Mountains. Moved to the valley to goto school at CAC. Spent alot of days around Greer, Vernon, Big Lake. Maybe we should have a summer retreat to Greer for all the CW members at Bill's place. I spend most of my free time with my three boys and one girl. We are playing alot of baseball right now. We always get back up north during the 4th of July. We also go camping and fishing at Big Lake for a week or so. The rest of the time it's hunting, guiding ,scouting, checking new ranches in Mexico, anything to do with hunting. desertsheep
  10. Since things are a little slow I was wondering how many others have had some kind of hunting related injury. Here is mine a shattered elbow from hunting coues deer in 2002. We had been hunting for 6 days when my two hunting buddies decided they had better go home and get re-packed for our Mexico trip we were to leave on in 7 days. I decided to stay and hunt the last morning and if I did'nt find anything in the first couple of hours I would pack it up and head home also. I had about a two mile hike into the spot that I wanted to glass from. I had just got set up and boom there were three bucks and one looked like he was worthy of taking some lead from the 300 ultra. I put the bucks to bed and made my stalk to try and close the distance. In the time that I was making my stalk to the time I was at my pre- determined spot the bucks had gotten up and were moving out. Lucky for me they had'nt seen me get to my spot. I found the biggest of the three and let him have it he ended up scoring right at 105 After taking care of the deer and hanging the hind quarters in a tree I took the cape & horns and the rest of the meat and started for the truck. About a 1/2 mile from the truck I was coming down the last ridge that was steep and rocky. Something caught my foot and I ended up head & elbow first into the rocks. After laying there for a couple mintues knowing that my elbow was shattered . ( 6 previous broken arms & 1 leg helps to know ) I was laying there trying to decide if I should leave all my stuff and try to get to a hospital or just cowboy up and get to the truck. I decided I could get there and I did'nt want to leave my biggest deer at the time or my optics. After getting to the truck and not having any cell service I started to drive home which would take me three hours or so .While I was driving home my arm started to swell I thought but after finding out later a piece of bone had cut some blood vessle's and my arm was filling up with blood. I knew it would'nt do any good to stop at a small town hospital and have them look at it so I headed for Gilbert . My in-laws ended up meeting have way and brought me some pain pills and drove me home. I had to wait for ten days for the swelling to go down before they would operate. In the mean time my buddies had returned from Mexico with some good bucks. I headed to mexico 20 days after the operation and took a buck that scored 103 One year later they took out all of the screws and wire and things are ok. Sorry to be so long winded. desertsheep

    Hunting Accidents

crotalus, The hind quarters in the tree I marked with my gps so I could make a return trip the same day. After the fall and I had gone to the hospital. My wife and I made it home around 4:00AM. The next day around 2:00 Pm one of my hunting buddies and I went back and he hiked in with my gps to get the meat. I stayed in the truck with a radio to make sure he got out ok. He made it back to the truck around 10:00 PM. It was raining really hard that night and we decided to try and go in a differnt way. We thought that it might be a shorter hike but you know how those things work out. We ended up back at the house around 1:00 AM. desertsheep

    Bachelor Party!!!

Sounds like the start of a bad joke--a lawyer, a doctor, an insurance salesman, and several BP agents walk into a bar......... It would only be bad if it was a gay bar. Hope you have a great time man.

    Coues Raffle?

Everybody, Thanks for the great response to the raffle. Amanda and I are still trying to figure out how to get this thing done. I was really exicted to do this and take a guy or gal down there that doesn't normally get the chance to go. Mexico I think is still where you have the best chance to harvest a B&C buck. They are still going to kill good bucks on the state land and the reservation. But your chance's increase a ton by going south.

    Who Needs Mexico???

I would have to agree with you also that AZ has some great deer & they will always kill some great deer. But what Mexico has to offer is more opportunity at all age classes of bucks. It lets the smaller bucks grow up. As for the state land you have everybody shooting anything with any amount of horn. I'm not saying that is bad. It's been 6 years since I have had a deer tag. Lots of people get frustrated and shoot a deer less than what they wanted to. Everybody want's to shoot a 110 but it's just not going to happen. Desertsheep
  21. Hey Jack, Can I put in with you it looks like you pull a tag quite often. Or are you adding a little extra cash in the envelope. Desertsheep
  22. Jack, What's the story on the mulie. And If I can shoot deer like that send the good luck shirt over. Desertsheep
