    15D North

Here is my ram that I took in 15D N this last week I'm still grinning, I cant believe that it is over after waiting for so long to get the tag and the 6 months of preparation. Man but it was the time of my life, I was able to hunt with my son and very good friend and the two guys that I met for the first time at the sheep clinic and was able to share sheep camp with them and Mike you need to post your story and pictures! what a ram. I had every intentions on using my bow but I went over to the dark side with a gun not like awesome Mike and his bow, But I wouldn't of changed anything. I used my father in laws rifle and my son only had a few more days to hunt and Jim only had the weekend to hunt. I m so thankful that they were all there It was a long stock and longer shot and longest pack out ever in the dark we glassed up over 12 rams that Saturday morning before I took the shot. Game and Fish gross green scored at 170 and net 169.6 and aged him at 9 years old he has a lot of character with a very beat up nose from fighting I would also like to thank Fred Ashurst and his wife Mary for putting up with all of us this season He has had 5 of the 12 tags in 15D this season stay in his garage one of the best guys I have met in a long time. So again I say thanks to everybody that I met at the sheep clinic and the fellows I have talked to on this site and to my son Kolby, hunting buddy Jim,new friends Mike and Drew and to my wife who has put up with me and my sheep on the brain for the last 6 month I love you Q. Ram Skull

I have a 15BW Desert Ram skull plugged by G&F, killed in 2001, I scored him in the 130s and aged at 9 or 10 years old. I bought him at an ABA event a while back. He has a lot of character broomed off and chips all over. It. looks more like a pick up head but G&F says different asking 400.00 I live in Eagar but I do travel to the Valley, Tucson and Flag quite often or you can come and pick it up. PM me or Call 928 245 1213 or arizonahunter@hotmail.com Thanks for looking Jeff

    Unit 1 & 27

Was in 27 and 1 today it looks pretty good seen a couple of shooter bulls in both units, If I can make one suggestion would be to have some type of muck boots and plan on having a messy camp because of all the mud and ash I did find a brown shed (un-burned) 4 point and a 6x7 340ish half burned skull walked about 4 country miles in the muck. What a mess, lots of washed out roads, still raining everyday spent 2 hours hucking rocks in a washed out part of a road just to come across a fallen tree that I could not get around That sucked. Oh yeah the other suggestion would be to keep a chain saw it the truck and Jim our raspberry bushes are gone looks like a moon scape rocky riverbed Dang it. Jeff in Eagar

    Unit 1

I never seen his plates, He accused me of shooting by buck with a rifle and chasing the antelope cross country with my pick up after a two hour interview / integration it was determined that I was telling the truth and everything was good with the local WM. No hard feelings I wish he would of just talked to me instead of causing total confusion and chaos I did nothing but try and help anybody that I talked to over the hunt. I’m one of the most ethical hunters that you will ever meet, I live and will die by my hunting license and my job and would never put either in jeopardy with negative contact with any other LE agency and as a past two term Chairman of the ABA we preach nothing but ethics. So Blue FJ you are so very wrong. Jeff in Eagar ]

    Unit 1

Got it done one of the hardest hunts I have ever been on 6 straight days of long walks and fighting the weather, 70 yard shot with only a 30 yard recovery not biggest out their but will eat good, had a blast. seen a lot of good bucks tried everything from flagging to the decoy hat and shirt , cow decoy, into them every day but couldn't get it done had one at 15 yards on a dead run a bunch at 80 plus yards a reel good buck at 45 yards opening day and 3 hours later but had a clump of trees between me and him and he blew out of their, a lot of miss judging on land terrain features and missed shots. I thought this would be a slam dunk this year living up here and seeing so many goats over the past 4 months and killing one on the 2nd day 11 years ago must have been a lot of luck back then ,one thing I did learn was to totally think out the whole stock and don’t rush it. I did talk to a lot of other hunters out at the grassland G&F Ranch had good conversation, sharing what we seen over the past few days. I did see a 20 inch buck at 130 yards I tried the shirt and hat thing almost got him because he fell over laughing at me. Jeff in Eagar PS If you were hunting goats up here in a Blue FJ cruiser you are so very very wrong.

    Unit 1 & 27

Well 27 is now open 3-big closures Fish creek, Middle mtn, and Prime cyn are closed the gal at the front desk told me that if it is not marked with a yellow line it is closed and accessible by foot only but closed to all motor vehicles so dont get caught down a side road, Im not sure this is true but that is what she was told me, I asked her if their were more roads to be open before the hunting season started. she was told that no more would open and this is it. I have a hard time in believing that as well, you can go to the Apache Sitgraves web site to see the map. Good luck Jeff in Eagar

They said it could be closed up to 5 years that sucks, No hunting their.I talked to the people at Moultries all they said was sorry about the camera, but I could offer you a one time internet deal for $119. to replace it. Oh well I still have some cool pictures. Jeff in Eagar

    Unit 1 & 27

I went up to Alpine yesterday looked at the purposed closure map of 27 there is some questions on boundaries on the closed parts, pretty much if you want to know if it is open look at the burn servility map. if it is a big blob of red it is closed, they said they would put it out to the public as soon as it was approved. Hoping to be in the woods Monday. I will post back on Monday night Jeff in Eagar

    Unit 27 smoked elk

Here are a few pictures of some elk in the fire; I set a camera back in April at a tank in 27. I have a good friend that is working on the roads in the burn area on the B.A.E.R project team and I asked him if he ever gets close enough to the tank if he could slip away and get or just check to see if the camera made it, well I got a call the other day and it was the old story. I have some good news and some bad news, what do you want first , Give me the good news first , I say , I have your camera and the security box is fine, The bad news the camera in the box is a big pile of melted goooo. Or that’s what we thought until after we took the jaws of life and a hammer and a screwdriver and pried it open to retrieve the SD card. SD card a little bent but it might work. Well it worked 2400 plus pictures, WOW. 90% of the pictures were of elk doing what elk do. The rest were of turkey, two bears, two deer a coyote, turkey hunters a cowboy and his horse and dog, a duck that has moved in with his girl friend. The first picture that is posted is the smoke coming in with the elk in the picture then you can see the fire moving across from left to right, that night you can see the fire and a elk and then they are back with their babies the next day(in all the pictures the cows are pregnant till the day the fire came through then the calve pictures started to show up)the camera went black on the 12th of June at 1:13pm 7days earlier the fire came through I don’t know what happened on the 12th if the fire came back or what but the tree with my camera on it was burned in half and the tree laid on the box, my friend said it was the only tree within a hundred yards of the tank that was burnt . The tank is now a mud hole with a lot of green grass in the meadows around the tank. The cover in the dark woods never burned and I don’t know how the elk finished out with the horn growth but he said that the elk are still pounding the mud hole. And that is strange that it is a mud hole because we are getting pounded with rain everyday on the mountain. Let me know if you want to see any of the other pictures. Jeff in Eagar, If any of you other 1 or 27 hunters have any questions just ask. Rumor has it most of the forest will be open by the 15 of Aug.
