ANOTHER F'd rifle came from UPS!
vegasjeep replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
This stuff makes me laugh! UPS and fedex use the same kinds of sorting machines and many of the same people have worked at BOTH companies! The same anti hunters from UPS also probably worked at Fedex too! OH, by the way. UPS has a more successful shipping rate as well! Sounds to me like the smith does not know how to properly package a shipment -
If you plan on shooting more than 500 yds, I would go with a turret, not a dot or a line. There is just no way you can get all those lines and dots to line work out just right for any load unless you get plumb lucky! Out to 500 or maybe 550 I think you can do it but beyond that, it's a crap shoot. Get a scope with turrets if you plan to shoot real far! I have two VX3s with B&C reticles and turrets. If its a close shot, i use the line, if it too far, I dial it. Good information to know! Ill keep that in mind!!

I looked through both and both ere equal in clarity. I liked both but love leupold customer service

Bringing this thread back up as I finally have gotten around to putting this bad boy together. The stock is a Boyds Featherweight, the Bipod is a Harris and the scope will be a Leupold VX3L. I cannot get over great customer service from Leupold! I also ordered a Timney trigger which is suppose to be DYNAMITE on the Remington 700 What do you think? This thing will be finally ready for some deer slaying this year.... and Elk too!!

vegasjeep posted a topic in Optics and tripods
Looking to get a good rangefinder that actually works on something other then a mirror at 600 yards! What is the best bang for the buck on a great rangefinder? -

36B Very Dry and Very few Deer
vegasjeep replied to LuckyGuy128's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
36b was VERY VERY dry and has been for awhile. I had not seen it this dry in awhile. Deer were scarce in some areas but if you caught the water habits they were plentiful. -
I have a house in Arivaca which I only have cause I hunt in southern Az... So this year we have people hunting in the late Oct 36b and 36a hunt as well as the late November early Dec 36a hunt. So during these times I will be down there and want to have a pot luck at least one night in during each hunt. I have a place to have a bon fire, the grill, chairs (but more could be needed ) We could all bring one thing to the BBQ. If 5 or more people show up we have a feast. What does everyone say? What would be a great date for everyone during each hunt? If you cannot bring a dish thats fine too. LEt me know and we will make sure we have extra food for people and make extra dishes. Lets get this rolling.

any of the units are going to have problems down there. a lot of people come and go with no problems. But it does happen however.
-
Them sorry Piece of garbage and waste of life humans. I am always scared this might happen when out there, or worse yet your truck be stolen or disabled form damage. Sorry about your luck guys, hope next trip is better.

Any CWT members live in Arivaca?
vegasjeep replied to Str8Shot's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
That was going to be mu suggestion as well. I have a cabin down there but if the trailer is to big you would never make the turn in to my yard through the gate. -
a lot of good spots 6 years ago are crap now. The illegals have made such huge dents in some areas that deer ust are not in some previous popular areas.

Looking for a decent Samurai or jeep for hunting. WHat do you have? let me know!
-
I thought this thread said 36a, im going crazy!!!! HAHAHAHA
-
What would you like to know? I can show you around a bit if you would like ina few weeks Ill be down there to scout. lots of deer 10 miles before Arivaca on the right side of the highway about 5 miles in to the mountains. We saw a lot of deer down with the Mulies last year back in the flats back there at the base of any hills.
-
There are lots of deer in 36a. Last year, we saw them way down in the flats behind Arivaca on the back side of that mountain range. SOme were within 100 feet of mule deer. Just watch out for all the "good Samaritans" trying to scare the deer away as they place free water and food for the illegals/

What weird stuff have you glassed or happen well glassing for game?
vegasjeep replied to seek100plus's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have glassed up a few things that were odd. I saw a guy walking with a big backpack and a AK type rifle. I was just out glassing and he spotted me. I swear he ran three ridges before he disappeared and he had never slowed down. probably crossed over 2 miles of terrain before I did not see him anymore. I carry a GPS so no matter what I see I call it in to game and fish on my speed dial. Ive seen hundreds upon hundreds of illegals in groups of 2, 3, 20, 50 you name it. I actually have a hill I go to to introduce new people to the groups in 36b. At night within an hour I can have a group come by EVERY time. I watched a hunter get stalked by a mtn lion for 20 minutes or so. I have seen these new freaking packs that the "humanitarians" put out for the illegals which are new camo back packs full of a few cans of tuna, a few Gatorades, a few red bulls and a couple waters. The humanitarians also put out these HUGE $60 black totes full of food now as well as their gallons of water. I saw a group of drug smugglers on 3 different occasions. Im talking burlap sacks and all. Never had fighter jets but I have had the BP heli buzz me less then 30 feet away a couple times as they were tracking some illegals. I know where a white Chevy Durmax has been sitting for two years and all he did was break a tie rod and never came back for it. It was pretty much untouched as of last year The black panther or whatever it was that was found dead in southern az i had seen as well as a few different groups of kudimundees and turkey in 36a and b -
I have never not been drawn, had a problem or anything related to the game and fish regarding my tags. This year I was drawn for 36B late DEC hunt. I was pretty stoked and could not wait, but I was rejected! They said I left a numeral offf my license info and with my copy in hand I could absolutely prove that was not true. Unfortunately there was nothing I could do about it. Aside from being pissed at not being drawn for the hunt of a lifetime I was not to worried as I could put in for the 36B over draw. Well I filled everything out and was going to drop it off at the office come monday morning. Out of curiosity I checked the website to see how many nov6-12 tags were left and noticed that I had to mail it in only. Saturday 3pm and I hauled butt to the US mail. Last pick up was 5 and so I decided perfect, it will get there Monday. Well monday came, then tuesday, wednesday and they still had not seen it. I was like what the heck!! I was watching tag number availability go down and down and down. Friday came and still nothing. I still do not know what happened to it but now it was time to show up MOnday morning. So MOnday morning I drove to the game and fish and picked them up in person. About freaking time. SO if anyone is down in 36b the first and second hunt Ill be down there during both hunts.

FINALLY got my deer tag for 36B
vegasjeep replied to vegasjeep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You can camp just about anywhere you want in the southern units. there are afew ranchers who have closed off property but for the most part you are good to go.
