Arizona Bait Ban - AZGF wants "Bait" ban

Water catchments, tanks, etc. also create unnatural concentrations of animals during the most strenuous and hardest times of the year for animals (Hottest and most dry). Baiting is just being used as a scapegoat. If CWD enters Arizona, baiting will not be the cause.

Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife and the Strip

I agree. I have heard of one, and his story was 13 bonus points. Not sure on the others.

Arizona Bait Ban - AZGF wants "Bait" ban

If the concern really was CWD then they would also discontinue the policy of building water catchments.

  6. My side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George is a good trilogy about a boy that runs away to the mountains. Good luck, I hope your kids enjoy them!
  7. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen was one of my favorites. He has many outdoor books that I enjoyed at that age. Edit: Actually anything from Gary Paulsen is good. Soldier's Heart, The Rifle, Tucket's Travels, the list is long and great. Including a book of hunting and fishing essays that are told from a teen's point of view. Good stuff all around.

    Blind Etiquette

Leave your name and number on the blind with a short explanation. Worst case scenario the guy is a complete jerk and you go from there. Either way a respectful, level headed discussion (at least on your part) is probably gonna happen eventually. Most likely you won't get a response for awhile. It's public land, so I would continue scouting as you have been and don't discount the area because of the blind. As the season gets closer and you haven't heard anything, hunt the area. At least you tried to contact the guy. I'm curious as to what others would do.

    23 Late Archery input

Also have this hunt. My plan is to try to catch a bull coming out of his canyon hideout for water. It could be tough if it rains and water is everywhere. Tough or not I get to go hunting. Good luck!

    AZGF what are you thinking?

What may be possible is requiring a survey be filled out and returned. Failing to would make you ineligible for a tag the following season. Wouldn't be perfect though. You'd still have those guys that would check not successful even if they did harvest. Simply out of misplaced paranoia that a successful hunt would ruin next year's draw odds. That said, I think the data would be a much better indication of what really happens and may be beneficial to our big game management.
  11. Anyone hunt with a traditional bow? I have every intention of picking up a recurve and learning how to shoot it after the Christmas weekend. I have shot a compound for awhile now and feel drawn to picking up some traditional stuff and going "old school". It'd be neat to see some pictures of Arizona game taken with a recurve or longbow. Any tips or tidbits of info as to how it may change how I bowhunt (compound vs traditional), are welcomed.

    Traditional Archery

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has been bitten by the traditional bug. I'm addicted. Been shooting a 40lb recurve since my initial post, and just recently picked up a 53 lb custom longbow I plan on hunting with. I have definitely set aside the compound in favor of my new bows. I enjoy shooting a lot more, and can't wait for archery turkey next month to get out there. 20 yards seems to be my comfortable range right now but I'm slowly getting better. There is just something about having a lightweight wood bow with no sights and accessories hanging off it that calls out to me. Good luck to everyone!

    Tempe Town Lake...Urban or State

General. Tempe Town Lake is not part of the urban fishing program. Good luck!

    Predator Control funded in Utah

I have read several different articles stating that 75% of coyotes would have to be removed annually to cause a decrease in their general population. While a well intentioned idea, I'm not sure how effective something like this would be. I imagine once a coyote is called in and shot at, the chances of getting another shot at it are slim to none. Without trapping, coyote management becomes a tough proposition.

    Good article

Glad you linked this. Don Peay and the "Sportsman for Fish and Wildlife " all seem to have a common goal. Good article.

    question

AZGFD would never plant goldfish. Pond jumping birds (ducks, etc) can do it, but most likely someone decided to dump their aquarium fish instead of flushing them down the toilet. Flood is another good guess. If any waterholes up stream have fish, the ones downstream will eventually also.
