  1. We all want to recruit more hunters to keep the sport alive for our kids and their kids. Yet by growing the number of hunters, it becomes more and more difficult to draw tags in places like Arizona. I'm ok with the point system as it is and I would be ok with it changing. Either way, someone will be happy with the results and someone will be upset...kinda like today.

  2. I've been in Arizona since the mid-60s. We got 4 antelope tags on one app as a group in 19A in 1982. Finally got my second antelope tag this year. I'm not complaining as I did not hunt for most of the 1990s. But considering we have approximately 700 antelope tags and 10,000 or more applicants each year, it is easy to see some are going to get left out. I think we should make successful applicants wait before they can apply again. But what is a reasonable number of years to wait: 3 years? 5 years? More?

  3. I got a muzzle loader Antelope tag for 15A and 15B...one of two tags for the unit. My elk tag is in familiar territory: late bull hunt in 4A. Third time drawn for that hunt in last 12 years. 5 years ago, my son and step daughter had junior tags for 4a and my dad and I had bull tags for 4A. We scouted while hunting with the kids. The kids shot two cows...one Friday night, one Saturday morning at the same water hole. My dad got a nice 6x6. Me...didn't see nothing! I won't complain. Kids had a great time on their first hunt and 3-for-4 is pretty good in my book. I know the unit and feeding patterns. I feel like I am ready for this hunt.

  4. this is so frustrating...can't get through on the phone. i can enter my DOB and SSN online many, many times only to have it crash when it is delivering the results. G&F needs to come up with a new and improved solution next year. Maybe they could push the info out via a text message.

  5. Good seminar. Walked away with new info. Although I've been hunting since I was 10, I haven't done much turkey hunting. Picked up some good tips and some new calls. Looking forward to trying them out in a couple of weeks.

  6. I recall that they said that they would run credit cards. For those that rejected, they then have to determine who is the replacement hunter(s) and then process their cards. And they keep repeating that cycle until all tags are paid for. I'm guessing they are still going through that process and don't have all cards paid off. They hit my card on Thursday, March 28. My bank didn't clear the charge until Tuesday, April 3. I had more then enough funds to cover the 3 charges, but the bank still took forever to process the charge. I would bet the other banks are doing the same thing, floating the funds for a couple of days to gain the interest.

  7. Got 3 hits to my credit card last week: antelope, elk, and elk. Put in separate apps for me and my son. Figured I would be thrilled with one tag...feel like I won the Mega Millions with 3 tags. And this is my first antelope tag since I was a sophomore in high school. My son is now a high school freshman. The suspense is killing me though.

  8. Little Creek Calls: I will be at your seminar. I wasn't aware of it until I read your reply.

Rombo: I am picking up my maps this weekend and will look for the areas you mentioned. I can definitely follow the snow line.

123456: I know for sure I am doing a 4-day weekend hunt on the 11th through the 14th of May. I may go up the last weekend of the season as well, but my son will be at the high school prom that weekend...as a freshman. A senior asked him to go. Kinda proud of him!

I saw in an older post that the main road may be closed. Does that road open on a specific day each year or is it opened when the snow level drops? My question is: how much of the unit is accessible if the main highway is closed?

    thanks for the advice!

  9. I'm heading up to 12A for the spring gobbler hunt. Never hunted there before. Taking my 15 year old son with me as well. He's thrilled he gets out of high school for a couple of days. I am calling Game and Fish later this week, then the Forest Service to see what info they can share. I read some of the older posts on 12A here, but feel like i am still in the dark about the unit. Any info is greatly appreciated.

  10. I will be hunting 12A for the first time in April 2012. I've been hunting unit 1 but figured I would try a new unit because of the Wallow Fire. My son will be using the youth over the counter tag. I'm going in totaly blind on this hunt. Hopefully, you all can provide some general guidance. Is there plenty of running water or are they dependent upon water tanks? How late does the snow last on the north rim?
