General Purpose/ Back up Rifle
dse replied to duckhunter175's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Also get the 130 gr cutting edge MTH, or the 145 gr Hornady ELD-X. Both have a B.C. of around .530 ish and will work in a 10 twist. -
Why?! Look what it did to him!

Keep an eye out at Cal ranch. I paid around $350 for the 700 adl I built my 300 Rum on.

I don't think I've been anywhere a rebel craw hasn't worked! Even had red and silver salmon hit it.

General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

It should do fine with both. Too fast is alot more forgiving than too slow. My 22-250 Ai has a 7 twist for the 80 & 90 gr Berger Vld. I've shot several bullets out of it that will stabilize in a 14 twist with sub 1/2 moa accuracy. -
Helly's & Grinders are definitely the best, but take something lighter too if it gets much above 60° you will burn up in them!

Just spent the last two months in Missouri. Better make some friends that have farms! Most of the conservation areas you can throw a rock from one side to the other.

Go to Idaho!!! Dave Smith motors in Kellogg. When I bought mine last year checked all over the western part of the country. It's worth a look! Plus Kellogg is a way nicer place to be this time of year!

Get it in Anchorage! You don't buy rain gear in the desert! Check out Big Rays they'll have what you need.

Probably the best gas truck motor at this time. Plenty of power and decent fuel mileage. Have 5 work trucks with the big hemi, 4 are always 16 to 18 mpg the other is 12 to 14 but it's always in town. Has better low end power than your usual gasser.

The Smith that built my rifle probably has built more 220 Swift Ai than any other caliber
-
Yes they are really close 40° shoulder on the Ai and 30° on the creedmoor I believe, other than that almost identical. However you might have a little trouble with collapsing the shoulder necking down 6.5 brass. One reason for my somewhat light fire forming load is it's nearly the same point of impact at 100 yds as the 80 gr Berger load, two clicks right or left to switch between loads. Making brass by shooting rabbits and prairie dogs seems like alot more fun than necking down cases.

22-250 AI is hands down my favorite varmint cartridge, and probably my favorite rifle. I've taken rabbits, coyotes, and prairie dogs out to around 1000yds and a coues buck at just shy of 600yds. Almost no recoil from a 12lb rifle, you can watch vapor trails and bullet impact in the scope. Good quality brass like Lapua, Nosler, and Norma are pretty easy to find and really easy to form. My fire forming load is the 53gr v-max at 3500 fps but I've pushed the same bullet well over 4000 fps. I've loaded the 75 gr A-max to 3600fps and the 80gr Berger Vld to 3450 fps. Next will be the 90 gr Vld Should be able to get close to 3300 fps.

Swift Scirocco bullets accuracy
dse replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
They shot 3/4 moa from my 257 wby mark v, which isn't horrible I guess but the rifle will sub 1/2 moa with factory 115 nosler ballistic tips. I've done very well with the Scirocco in 243 270wsm and 30-06 AI. -
Looking to buy a.277 1in8 twist sendero lite. Found it in stock at Evolved Ballistics. Wondering if anyone has dealt with them, and is there any place else I should check?
-
The yellow perch at Santa Fe are usually pretty good. I use meal worms under a bobber on the south end of the lake.
-
Wolverine?
-
Checked Stockys and Bugholes but they only had 10 twist. Evolved Ballistics has the 8 twist in stock, they seem to mostly stock fast twist stuff. Just never heard of them.

CWT group effort Wildcat Rifle build

Rl-23 is a new powder. I haven't had much chance to mess with it yet. Also the temp stability of Rl-22 hasn't been an issue to me. -

It means you lose velocity the colder the temp and gain velocity the warmer the temp. They say around 1fps per degree of temp. Rl-23 is supposed to be the temp stable Rl-22 -
That's the idea. Have a NRA banquet rifle in 270 wsm that has pissed me off for years. No matter what I try it won't shoot better than 1 1/2 moa. Gave up on it several years ago, but it bothers me every time I open the safe. I've been rained out at work alot and had nothing better to do than sit in the motel and order gun parts. Now I have a Bell & Carlson and a Swaro Z5 on the way so I'm committed. Hope to keep it at around 9 lbs launching the 170 Berger at 3050 fps with a BC of .662.

I spend probably 95% of my time behind my 15x HD Swaro's. Every now and then in a tight canyon I might put my 10's on the tripod. As far as a spotter, the times I actually need one are few and far between. Even at a couple miles you can tell a big buck from a dink in the 15's. Unless your picky enough that you need to know the difference between a 105" and a 110", I'd say save the money on the spotter and get top of the line 15's first.

Camera Land brings you Big News from Leupold
dse replied to gr8fuldoug's topic in Optics and tripods
They certainly do make a 4-24 in the older VX6 and the new 6HD. I've seen the older model 4-24x going for $13-1400 bucks. I have the vx6 2-12 fire dot duplex on my .338wm and so far so good! I can't really consider the older VX6 because you only get 13 MOA out of the CDS dial which doesn't get past 750 yards for me. The new ones give two revolutions which is nice but they are still behind the times. 13 moa? The old vx-6 is 18 or 20 moa per revolution. My two don't have a zero stop and I believe I run out at 43 moa. My 270 WSM's is dialed in to 1200 yds with an old vx-6. I do have a new vx-3i that runs out at 13.5 moa. -

I've never had problems finding speed or accuracy from Rl-22. Getting 3475 to 3525 fps & 1/2 moa from 3 270 WSM's and a 130 Swift Scirocco. Also sub 1/4 moa from a 22-250 AI and the 80gr Vld @ 3450 fps. -
I had an American in 22 mag, 100 yd groups of 1.5" with a few different types of ammo.
