Either one will not disappoint. I've used the 270 Wsm for the last 7 years running the 130 Swift Scirocco @ 3475 fps. It's taken a half dozen coues between 300 and 700 yds, a lion @ 650, and a elk @ 400. Non have needed a second shot. I've shot half moa groups @1200 yds.

They also tune the trucks with the aisin to have more power than trucks with the 68rfe

Are you looking to buy a bolt gun, or already have one with a 1 in 12? There are several bolt rifles that come with a 1 in 9.

I have a 75 grizzly and a yeti that I think is the same size. I thought they would save me time during the hunt not having to go to town every couple days for ice. They work well if the highs are 40s or 50s. But on the Oct. hunts I still have to add ice every 3 days. Had the yeti in the truck at work all summer and never got over 3 days before the ice was gone.

I try to keep everything between 2.5 to 3 lbs.

Ruger Precision Rifle vs Savage BA 110 stealth
dse replied to goinhuntn's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You should have said something a couple days ago buddy just sold a Ruger precision 308 yesterday with dies and ammo for $900 -
That sounds interesting!

The aisin is a good deal but we probably have a dozen 3500s with the 68rfe that commonly roll up the road weighing around 40,000 lbs. Several have over 100000 miles and I can't remember one having a transmission issue.

I've got the 68RFE

I just bought a 2016 Ram 3500 Bighorn from Dave Smith motors in Kellogg Idaho. Couldn't be happier so far. 23000 miles so far pulling all over the country with zero issues.

I would also go either 280Ai or 30-06Ai. A few years ago I rechambered my old 30-06 to the Ackley version. I've been impressed with the results. A 180gr Swift Scirocco @ 3000 fps and I'm working on a load for the 200gr ELD-X @ 2850 fps.

My brother had that happen to his m77 hunting caribou. At -55° it wouldn't even click.

I've had it happen on several brands of factory ammo and with both federal and CCI primers on reloads.

What is the farthest you have tracked an animal?
dse replied to AzDiamondHeat's topic in The Campfire
I went a little over 5 miles one time helping a friend. Took around 7 hrs but recovered the elk. Lost the tracks once in a place where cows had trampled over the trail. Got back on track by checking under cedar trees and finally found one with a bed and fresh blood. -
Resizing brass from .284 to .308 safe?
dse replied to AZbowhntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yes it's safe but will cause the case neck to be slightly thinner and will shorten case life. You will probably want to anneal the cases after resizing. -
I took two rifles to camp this year. My normal coues rifle is a 270 Wsm loaded with 130gr Swift Scirocco's @ 3475 fps. This rifle load combo has been lights out on several coues from 312yds to 684yds and a 653yd lion. I haven't had one animal take a step after the shot. The other rifle I took was a fast twist 22-250Ai loaded with the 80gr Berger vld @ 3450 fps. I had taken this rifle with the thought of doing some Coyote calling, but when my brother's 6.5-300 why took a crap I ended up loaning it to him for a back up. This may be my new favorite coues gun. His buck was 566 yds and hit the ground where he stood. After the shot my brother looked at me and said (that was awesome I watched the bullet hit him in the scope). I will definitely start carrying this rifle when hunting alone so I can be my own spotter.

Levi Strauss has been anti gun for a long time, but what do you expect from a company founded in San Francisco.

I use the Harris 25c. The shorter ones work better off the bench but when when trying to set up on angles with grass sticks and rocks in the way the extra height helps a ton.

Use those cuts to stay hidden on the way into your stand. Try to set up so they have to cross shootable ground between where you expect them to come from to down wind of your position. No talking! Don't call to loud start low and work up. Don't call to often I only let the call run for 20 to 30 sec every few minutes.

I have one I will be loading the 130 Scirocco for in the next few days just haven't had time yet. I will probably start with rl-25 or rl-33.

what to do when an angry bear approaches?
dse replied to portas.d.ace's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I stood off a giant coastal brown in western Alaska. Luckily he didn't come all the way, stopped at about 50 yds, blew some snot and tore up the bushes. It was impressive for sure but a 375 H&H shouldered and ready to go made it alot more comfortable. -
