Camera Land's Deal of the Day 4/7/2014 - Vortex Riflescope

Awesome -
Buy him a utah auction tag for archery bull elk. You can buy the unit specific ones for less than 5k. Memory of a lifetime if you can afford it. Some of them went for 3500 last year and a 400" bull can be had in any of the auction tag hunts.

No the triggers suck. Get a new one. You can find an older remington style or an aftermarket and swap it out very easily. -
Sportsmans Mesa Optics Counter SUCKS !!!!!
AverageJoe replied to rezmedic's topic in Optics and tripods
He wont read it, but his kids and grandkids might. I would be pissed if someone called out my Grandpa on a public website. If you have a complaint just call his manager. Again not cool to call a local guy out on a website. Take it up with him or his boss personally -
Sportsmans Mesa Optics Counter SUCKS !!!!!
AverageJoe replied to rezmedic's topic in Optics and tripods
Not a big deal but why would you insult someone on a public website? That guy lives here in the east valley and has many family members here in the east valley and some that visit this website. I know some people in his family and they are a great family. -

Should I switch to a drop away?

Thats why i said stay away from the ripcord code red. Ripcords are noisy. The clicking is there to stay. Go to a qad if you want quite. -
I agree gotcoues... but it will help draw odds simply because each year there will be 20,000 less applicants. i was just letting everyone know that the one year wait IS being currently discussed by g&f. It may or may not happen but we will find out eventually.
-
How would having 20,000 less applicants not effect a premium hunt also? It might not have as much as an effect but definitely more than Zero effect. If its a premium hunt with 20-100 or more tags depending on the unit only a few tags go to bonus point holders. So the rest go to random applicants. Less random applicants equals higher odds. Or am I missing something?

Its already in the making that if you get drawn for elk you cant put in the next year. This will help draw odds

you must be referring to .270WSM.[/quote No a 270 win. This is what I get with my loads 270 130 gr sst drop 100 yds 2101 ft lbs 0" 500 yds 1127 ft lbs -50.3" 700 yds 800 ft lbs -124.5" 7mm rem mag 139 gr sst 100 yds 2265 ft lbs drop 0" 500 yds 1260 ft lbs -49.3 700 yds 913 ft lbs -121 So if this is a big difference the deer will never know. But with the recoil and extra weight and cost of ammo not that much difference for me the big difference is you can shoot the 162 or 168 gn bullets out of the 7mm. That is where the 7mm shines. Then that is where it indeed blows the 270 out of the water. also your speeds must be very slow to get the numbers you are getting for the 7mm. The 7mm shoots the 139sst anywhere from 3200-3300 fps. Which puts the drop and energy quite a ways off from what you stated. energy at 700 is around 1130 and drop around 99 "

remington 700 sendero
AverageJoe replied to 5guyshunting's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Bad choice? What? I'll have to completely disagree with you on that note but I'd like to hear your reasoning behind it. The 300 rum only has one advantage over the 300 win mag. Shoots bullets faster. That is where the advantage ends. the 300 win mag is easier to shoot, barrel life is triple if not quadruple that of a 300 RUM. You might be lucky to get 600-700 rds out a RUM. Look up 308nuts (Michael Eichelle on long range hunting) borescope findings regarding the RUM and the one of the reasons I say it is a poor choice. the 300 win mag will take your game to the 1000 yd line with no problem. The 300 rum can extend that range a bit if needed. The 300 RUM needs to be braked. The 300 win mag doesnt. To shoot heavy bullets long range, one would be better off stepping up to the 338 range. The 300 rum is just too harsh on barrels and in reality only gives you 100-200 fps more than the win mag. And that comes with 10-20 grains more powder. Efficiency of the RUM is very low because of this. If someone is truly has the need for speed and cant be satisfied with 300 win mag speeds, by all means go for the 300 RUM. That is the only advantage and IMO not worth burning barrels and extra powder to do so. -

Sendero is a great rifle. 300 RUM is a bad choice in caliber though. if you want a 30 cal stick with the 300 win mag. -

Yes 243 or 25-06. -
What???

Either caliber is capable of taking anything in north america. I studied the pros and cons of both for quite some time before purchasing a 7mm mag. For what i wanted, the 7mm came out on top. If i were to shoot the 300 mag, i would use 200 gn or higher bullets. That is where the 300 mag really shines IMO...

That will work yes. Might be a little light on arrow weight but it will still work. depending on your draw length you might be underspined with the 250's. Moving up to maxima 350's will get you properly spined and also give you a bit of extra arrow weight which will help. There are a bunch of guys that think you have to have a 500 gn arrow to take an elk and that is a bunch of bs. I have killed two with arrow weights of 376 and 386. The 386 arrow made it through an elk front shoulder as well. Plenty of penetration.
