5BN Not asking for hand outs just have a few questions???
AverageJoe replied to 3Coues3's topic in Elk Hunting
Lots of good bulls all over that unit. I prefer the more northern portions of the units. 350 bull is very doable. -
Anyone on here ever use the kenetrek mountain guide non insulated boot? What was your opinion and how long to break them in, how comfortable? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

What makes the 400 gram model better? I am deciding between those or the uninsulated

Starting my planning of going to hunt Idaho for elk next year or the year after. I have never been to Idaho and have no idea where to go other than through research of their website. Anyone here ever been to Idaho to hunt elk in Sept that can give me any advice?

I have heard that about the wolves. For that reason and a few others i was looking into units 22 and 23 which are near hells canyon wilderness. Supposedly not as many wolves there, decent success rate, and not as popular with hunters as other areas, due to the rugged terrain i would guess. Anyone know that area at all?

North Korea is tryin' to F@#! on us!!!
AverageJoe replied to 123456's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
They couldnt obliterate seoul but could do some damage. Seoul also has artillery guns on many locations throughout their city. When i was driving around there it was cool to see artillery cannons sticking out over the treeline and machine gun bunkers on many corners. I trained with the ROK Marines and also met some north Korean soldiers. They would surrender in a heartbeat for just one MRE it seemed like. If they surrendered they would be treated way better than they get treated by their own command. The ROK Marines are very well organized and very well trained. Unless China (or russia) comes to the aid of north korea i would not worry too much about who would win that war. -

Must be tough going through life with such a big chip on your shoulder. You should try to learn how to focus on the good things in life bc777. You are a person that not too many people seem to like and that will get real old as you grow up. Let it go man!!

I am not impressed with Vortex rings one bit. Cheaply made. I have leupold mark 4 rings and bases and that is what I will use from now on.

.17HMR info requested
AverageJoe replied to deercrazy's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I love mine. I dont shoot past 100 yds with it. I have shot coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, and a turkey when it was legal. The coyote did the spin for about 10 yds and was toast. No pelt damage! It is devastating on small game. I would rather have my .17 over my ruger 10-22 any day. -

I think a lot of people really dont know what it takes for an elk to actually be 400". I have seen a guess the score contest on a 360 bull and many guesses were 380-400. But like you said mostly by new hunters. That is the problem with the trophy hunting world we live in. Everyone wants their bull to be 400 or somehow its not a good bull?? Lol! So new hunters come in and the first big bull they see they say well that's gotta be a 400" bull! When in reality its around 350. Same goes with deer too but i see it mostly on elk where there is more room for error. No big deal though, live and learn.

First or Second Focal Plane Scope?
AverageJoe replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The point of impact stays the same at any setting on either scope if you just use the crosshairs. If you use mil dots to range your target a ffp keeps the distance between mil dots the same at any power setting where second plane scopes do not. I only like second plane scopes cause i dont like a big ol reticle in my view when magnified but some do. I dont use my scope to range anything. I have a good rangefinder for that and i prefer regular plex style crosshairs. -
Also do you know how much elevation it has in it?
