    Poor man's Alaska fishing trip?

I know its not quite the same but I have been to Jackson Lake in Wyoming a few times. We hire a guide for a day and then spend a few days out on our own in a rented boat. We go in June or July and have always had great luck catching Browns and Lake trout.

Its handy to have on your phone for almost any hunt. We use it a lot to send locations back and forth. I get on the computer and mark areas I want to look at then they pop up on my map out in the field. Its also cheaper than a gps.

    Favorite Elk Broadheads

My wife made a bad shot on a bull with a Montec. I was amazed at how well it broke bone and held together. Took some tracking but we recovered a dead bull.

Looking for bulk heating wood pellets

I think they are the same as Lignetics. We buy them at Cal-Ranch and sometimes homedepot has them. If not, Homeco is a little more expensive, but still worth it. We burn 2 bags of Heaters brand pellets to one bag of Lignetics. We bought a pallet from Cal-Ranch last year.

Would you take a .223 for your wife?

Yes. He was quartering to me a little bit. All 3 bullets were in the chest cavity. He never even flinched until the 3rd shot.

    Maps???

Why both? Is it because you just like to look at a map or is there a real advantage?

Would you take a .223 for your wife?

I have shot 7 deer with a .223. The Barnes is by far the best bullet I used, The last deer I shot was at 300yds, I hit him 3 times in the lungs and none of the bullets exited. He went 150yds before he died. I only used it because it was the only rifle I had growing up. It wouldn't be my first choice especially since you have other options.

Long Range Fixed Blade Field Point Accuracy

I know this is a little off topic, but I think its still good info. When I was a kid growing up in Willcox me and a buddy use to shoot at a range just out of town. One day we met a few guys there and they saw us shooting 12in groups at 30yds and came over to offer some advice. They were really nice guys and spent about an hour helping us set up our bows and giving a few tips. We didn't even have knocking points and we were shooting fingers. In a short time we were shooting 6in groups at 30yds. When we were done one of the guys gave us both a couple of broadheads and told us he owned the company that makes them and to stop by his shop in town. The broadheads were Vortex brand and we used the heck out of them. So all that to get to my point. This was in the late 90's and these guys were shooting 100+ yards with these broadheads. One day in the shop they showed us that they would take some heavy duty snips and cut the blades so that just a 1/16th of an inch stuck out when they were closed. They said it really improved the long range accuracy. I killed my first deer with one a year later and it worked well. I switched to Rockets when I drew an elk tag a few years later. I think Creed was spot on with his comments on little to no blade surface being exposed. I didn't draw a deer this year and I am out of broadheads so this has been an interesting thread. I am thinking I might try out the new Vortex steel to see how they shoot. I don't practice enough to shoot much past 50yds anymore so really long range isn't an issue for me. Thanks for all the info! https://vortexbroadheads.com/collections/broadheads/products/vortex-100gr-2-00-steel

    Holdovers versus Come-Ups.

I have seen this plenty of times. They dial for a shot at 600yds don't take the shot, and forget to re set zero and miss a 200yd shot.

If it were you??? Caliber question

Personally I would do a .300wsm. My wife has one and its killed everything from Javalina to Buffalo. Its a great round with lots of factory ammo options.
