    Poached Antelope (pics)

While deer hunting a couple of weeks ago I glassed this up under a Juniper tree. I wasn't sure what it was at first, so I hiked down to take a look at it. I spent the next few hours on and off the phone with G&F, while still trying to hike and glass. Not sure exactly how it all went down, but on the way home that night, I got a call from G&F to let me know they caught the guys that did it. I was amazed that they caught them so fast. It sure is upsetting to see what some people will do for a thrill......

    Poached Antelope (pics)

I think what happend was they caught the guys with the meat. Most of the meat was cut out of the animal. Since they knew there was a poaching, they were looking for them. The kill was very fresh, and the blood was still wet. There was only one road into the area, and I gave that info to G&F. Aside from a few pictures of the antelope, a shell casing, and me telling them where it was, they had nothing really to go on. I didn't ask for the details, but I sure was shocked when they called and told me they caught them. I don't know exactly how it all went down, but at least they caught them.

    Rocket Broadheads

I shot my cow elk with a 75gr this year. It did pretty well.
  8. I like to shoot 7-1/2's with a full choke later in the season when the birds flush farther out. The first few weeks of the season, I like 8's and a skeet choke. Those birds are very tough to kill sometimes....

    A Good Day!

We went out to do little calling while scouting for deer this weekend. On the way in to our spot we found a set of cat tracks in the same place I killed a cat last Febuary. We decided to call the same exact stand as before. It is a very narrow clearing on the side of a creek. At about the 15min mark I see a cat step out of the brush about 10ft from my hunting partner. He couldn't see the cat in the thick brush, and I had no shot. The cat turned and left after just a few seconds. About a minute later, I caught movment at the top of the wash about 20yds in front of me. Another cat! It was hard to make him out through the brush, but I was finally able to pick him out. When I was pretty sure he wasn't comming in any closer, I decided to shoot him. I shot 3 times, since the brush was so thick. I was sure I had hit him good. With a little tracking from my buddy we found him about 20yds away. I decided its not a good idea to shoot through the brush with a shoutgun. We forgot the camera, so the pics had to wait till we got home. On our 3rd stand later in the day, we called from a small mesquite flat in a big nasty canyon. We setup with the call on the edge of a steep wash. I setup facing the wash, and my buddy was facing the hill with the wash at his back. Less than a minute into the cottontail dist a big male fox ran up out of the wash right next to my buddy. He waited for it to get out in front of him a ways, and then rolled him over with a load of lead BB's. I switched to fox dist, and in less than 30sec he was turned aiming down in the wash. I didn't see the fox untill she was right on top of the call. As soon as she cleared the call, he got her too. That was a pretty good day for us! Three stands, and 3 kills.

    Bobcat Question???

I have a question for you guys. I got this cat on trail cam this week, and would like to try and call him in. Will he stay in the same area, or will he move on. This spot has lots of water, and shelter, and I imagine there is plenty for him to eat. Looks like a very spotted cat. Let me know what you think.
