Monster Coues Buck video
cmc replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Ya but they always look big walking away... I would bet there is no hint of ground shrinkage on that beast if the lucky hunter walks up on him in the grass!!!! none what so ever. Toad... plain and simple. Great video guys... thanks for filming, editing and posting for us to drool over. cmc -
I would heed what is mentioned above and check the regs closely. I believe you can only harvest on bird in a certain zone and then you have to use your other tag in a different zone. I believe the idea was to keep folks from killing out the majority of a flock at once if they hunt in groups. I'd be over there myself but my wife and I drew Spring AZ tags. Maybe next year. cmc

I'm out then. Thanks for the info. cmc

Southeastern Arizona Game info on Twitter

Much appreciated Jim.... But... Twitter? Rats yet another account/username/pwd to remember. cmc -
My fellow sportsmen of Tucson.... K&L Archery's shop was burglarized the other day and they stole 7 of his used bows and some archery tackle, including a pack. What I've learned thus far is they took 4 Dartons, 2 Mathews and one PSE. One of the Mathews is a target bow not sure on color. If you get wind of anyone trying to off load some bows please gather info that you can and contact the Pima County Sherrrifs office at (520) 387-8511 and ask for Dave Andrews who is working the case. Thanks cmc

Yes a Pro Hunter 28" fluted 7mm mag barrel will fit on a Non Pro T/C Encore frame. I have that barrel but in SS on a Non Pro T/C Encore Frame. You will need to get a Pro forearm though that fits the barrel.

Wow... very impressive! Love the kids smiles! Congrats to all of them. cmc

I retire every arrow that's been in an animal. They are up on a shelf in my shop and most haven't even been cleaned. Each one has it's memory that goes with it. Some joyous and some heartbreaks. I think only two are in tact the rest are busted up in some way. Most were care of elk landing on them or hitting trees as they ran. I also have three robin hoods up there with them. cmc

Stop it you're kill'n me!!!! Awesome job and congrats on the recent success. Question on your tactics - spot and stalk, blind, call/rattle them in or stand?

Hunting 34A Alone...am I stupid???
cmc replied to Hunter1432's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I've been hunting 34A for the past 18 years. I've hunted it more times solo than with someone by probably a 3 to 1 ratio. Winter time, as Red Rabbit witnessed, is a slow time for UDI movement in the unit. They are there and I've seen my share on Dec & Jan bow hunts but not worth not going out. Carry a snubby pistol or the like and buy a SPOT. Both are just piece of mind more than you'll need to use them in emergency. The SPOT for your better half and the snubby for 'if' you run into trouble. Then again... 33 doesn't have any issues like 34A does and many more monster bucks. I vote you go there. cmc -
Who did the work and specs please.... Impressive to say the least.

I highly suggest purchasing a nomex fire suit and wear when shooting with that muzzle break. I'd expect a little flame'age coming back at ya. My shoulder hurts just looking at that thing. Seriously though I'd look into the Pro T/C stock with the sims built in to help with felt recoil. cmc

If this is your first bow I highly recommend looking for a longer axle to axle bow with a conservative brace height of 7" or more. Something with a smooth draw which will help you're muscles get use to archery. This can also be called having a smooth valley. Next is a bow with a very hard wall. That means when you hit your draw stops that you're done pulling the knock point any further from the riser. This helps you build consistency with both your form and your anchor point. Last if this is your first bow I'd find one that has a wide range of draw weight. This allows you to shoot as lighter poundage at first and then work up as your back builds up it's archery muscles. Any of the top manufactures build high quality bows that meet these requirements. Don't get caught up in they hype and sales pitches on new bows. Shoot as many as you can and get one that feels great for you. Put some money into a big bag target so that you can shoot in your garage or back yard. Put a 4/8 piece of ply wood behind it till you get everything dialed. You only need to shoot at 10yds but shoot every day you can to build up your back. The best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice!!! If you can get into going to a range with some guys take full advantage of it when you can. Good luck. cmc

dave... wait... you shoot a PSE? Thought you were a custom Hoyt shooter? Maybe I was wrong about you all these years. I built my own press to work my Dream Season and Bow Madness. Let me know if you ever need to use it. I have a mount that all you need to do is clamp it in a vise. Second if you are looking to build one I have some ideas I've gotten off some other sites that are very good ideas and pretty cheap to build. email me and I can forward them to ya. cmc
