I picked up a few used trail cameras the other month and set one out on a trail last week while archery deer hunting. I went back yesterday to check on it and could tell walking up that something had messed with it. I know bears are in that canyon and sure enough there was bear hair on it and dirt and slobber all over it. The day after I set it a bear had come in and moved it sideways off the trail and pretty much ruined any chance of me getting a picture of the deer coming into to a tank. No worries as I ended up with two shots of the bear. As if she went off and posed for the camera. The tank about 25yds from here had a good size sow and very tiny cub paw prints coming into the water. The cub prints were too cute to see. If only I had remember to bring my digital camera along to capture them. I'm not sure if this is the sow as it seems to be small for the size of prints at the water but too big for the cub prints. Also the camera was messed with about 10 hours earlier in the day by a bear in the sequence of other photos I have. No animals in the shots just seeing that the camera is moving. Close up and cropped photo.... Second pose... And zoomed & cropped again... The rest of the shots were of a few skunks, rabbit and a blur of a fox. Mostly because the camera was pointed at the ground after the bear got to it. Luckily it wasn't harmed just had some cinnamon bear hair and slobber on it. I relocated it out to the tank up higher in hope to see what quality deer are showing up at the tank. I hope the batteries hold out as I won't be back for a few weeks. cmc

yep and they are working fine as long as I don't get a bear to mess with it again. I have one down south and one up north, although it's not placed anywhere yet. Thanks again.

I glassed up 4-5 very tiny fawns yesterday in the afternoon I was out. One had to be less than a week. It was having a hard time negotiating the terrain behind momma. Cute to say the least.

Oh I agree that the location appears to be a very poor decision on someones part. It wasn't illegal though.

My father in law has a cross bow permit, has for some time. It was quite easy for him to obtain. He has a lot of metal parts in his body holding him together. All he did was take the paperwork to the Dr. and he filled it out as needed. Took to the G&F and was issued a crossbow permit. This year he drew an archery bull tag in a coveted unit. (It's his second archery elk tag and I think his first ever bull tag. Hopefully your doc isn't anti hunting or he might not assist on the paperwork. cmc

Not to beat this one to death but I think you're missing a major point of the ordeal. Have you ever seen those Loomis Fargo armed security delivery guys carrying the big bags of money walking out of the bank or say some grocery store? Why is it that you or I can't just go in and walk out with big bags of money just like them? The difference is that it's their job and it's against the law for you and I do to that unless we are employed and tasked to do the escorting of the money to and from the locations. In the above case it's only about the 'location' in which the animal was left, not it's condition it was left in. That's the only issue at stake. The fact that they killed a bear and left it is not in violation of the laws that the G&F operates under. You keep citing the law that hunters must follow and comparing that to how a WM must operate. That's not how it works. cmc

I was surprise to hear that either Alaska or Canada will not allow you to take out the meat of a bear as they have it classified as not eatable. So you shoot the bear and only get to take the head & hide. Yet if shot just on the other side of the border it's a fine. Go figure. Predator meat is by far some of the beat meat I have in my freezer. cmc
