    Springfield Champion 1911 .45ACP

That's a nice gun. I've shot one and always kept it on my wish list... I have a few questions.... ambi safety or just a right handed extended one? Who did the custom work? Still factory GI sights? Looks like it but wanted to verify.

    Got my mount back!!

Those are some wonderful mounts. Congrats on some very fine looking animals. If you don't mind me asking what's the average cost of a dall hunt running as I agree with your observation of the cost of stone sheep having looked around at pricing on those.
  3. Sweet deal Lance..... awesome pictures! Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule and posting. Dennis is still grinning from ear to ear... cmc

    Pinal Mountain Fire

That sounds like a smart thing to do. I bet I waived to you son on the ride home Sunday late afternoon. Looked like the entire Payson Hotshot crew was sitting along the highway heading to Winkelman watching the burn. They were all resting and sitting up on the top of the crew trucks taking a breather and watching the choppers work the area as smoke bellowed up from the mountain side. It was quite obvious that with the excessive winds they were called out of harms way and there to just wait it out till conditions were optimal for them to go back in and help manage the fire. Hope they return home safely as well all the hot shot crews that will brave some serious issues this summer.
  6. I'm not sure what going to take longer.... the end of this story or the day I draw a buffalo tag... :)
  7. I don't know for sure but hearing it from the hunter himself lat night might just top this thread.... I got the scoop with pictures last night from my father in law.... so get on with the tale Lance... punch line any time! Oh and Tines... you should have seen him before he mellowed out. LOL

  10. Lance I hate to steal any of your thunder by since it's family I have to brag.... I got word today my father in law will never be hunting buffalo in the state of Arizona ever again!!!!! He tagged out today!!!! I can not wait to see the pictures!!! Lance I'd like to extend a personal thanks to you and your guides for taking care of him and helping him fulfill a hunt of a life time!!! Congrats Dennis!!! You of all people deserved that buffalo!!!! Now... Come on sheep tag!!! That should make for a great drive home. House Rock has been great to him with a buffalo and antelope taken off that country. Very Cool! CMC

Bought a 32" PSE Bow madness

Thanks for the offer. I know George Chapman has one on hand in Tucson which I have yet to get off my duff and get over there to shoot. I mean he's only 5-6 miles away... and yet I still haven't found the time to get over there. UGH. cmc

    Unit Jumpers?

Yep... I'm jumping.... after my first, and most likely last mule deer tag ever last year, I'm jumping back to coues hunting. I'm also going to switch the unit I'm putting my wife in based on draw odds for the time she could go if drawn.

    drop-away rests

I have shot whisker biscuit (WB) for years all year long as I like the KISS philosophy. I changed things up when I got my X force as I wanted to tinker more so I opted to try a drop away. I started with a Trophy Taker pronghorn and ended up not liking the containment factor. I quickly moved over to the Extreme FC Angled slot (see pic) Yes a micro tune would be nice but you can tune a standard version just as good, but it will take you longer and probably frustrate you more, so depending on how picky you are go with the right one that fits you adjustably. For hunting I couldn't beat a WB with the set it and forget it aspect. Although I like the drop away I can't say I'm better with it and I can't say I won't switch over just before my elk hunt to a WB so I can have the 'set it and forget it' feel on the hunt. That'll take some time over the summer shooting the drop away to see if I'm willing to make that commitment. If you're 90% target shooting than a drop away would be fine. If you are 90% hunting then I suggest the WB. Technically if you have them both tuned properly and have good form... they will out shoot most shooters any day. I know I can't shoot near as good as them when they are setup correctly and using good shooting from. That's the key where most fail. Good luck and let us know what ya go with.

Bought a 32" PSE Bow madness

If they would have made it in left handed when they said they would I'd own an XL right now but instead I picked up a XF Dream Season. I still want to shoot a lefty Bow Madness to see if I made the right choice. Although I have no issues with my Dream Season, I just like solo cams. Not sure why, just do. Good luck and keep us posted on how things go with it over time.
  15. I have somewhat of a vested interest in that the hunter holding the buff tag is my wifes father. :D I should have also mentioned I wish them safe travels and safe return. cmc
  16. Good luck guys I sure hope to hear of the second tag getting filled... and soon!!! cmc
  17. Nope... he took time off from buffalo hunting to try his luck at his turkey tag. I believe they'll give them buffalo a run for their money in the very near future.... cmc
  18. What an epic road hunt... .....Just kidding. Awesome pictures from the trip. cmc
  19. Many Congrats to Richard on his buffalo and Timberland for the work they did in landing it. Also for keeping the gang safe and returning them home to loved ones. My father in law, Dennis, is very excited to get back up there and try and fill his tag. cmc

    Badlands Ox???

Sage Creek forums haven't said much about them being out on the streets.... They seem to be in the know on Badlands packs. I talked with Cameron Hanes about it while in Texas at the RMEF show and he said it was interesting and built well but unsure how it's going to be in the field. Time would tell. Looking at the details on it I'd have to wear one around the store a bit before I wanted to drop the coin they are expecting to get for it. cmc

    #unit 27 Elk Rut

I wouldn't say that unit is that bad for bull elk.... Scouting video from back in 07 Not same bull but was taken in 07... this one measures out to be off a 360 class bull and he should be alive today unless something of large got to him already. As for tactics.... get in shape and I mean the best shape of your life!!! Hunt from sun up to sun down and don't ever go back to the truck or camp. That bull above was taken around noon and he only let out a few bugles, I think two before he was shot. Don't over call but don't under call and know what type of call to use and when to use it. Did I mention get into good shape.... those big bulls like big canyons and rough country at 8000 ft elevation. There isn't much air for us flat landers to live off of and chasing a bull that lives up there all year is brutal on ya.... brutal, but talk about fun! Good luck, cmc
