    Time for a new bow

I have an X-Force Dream Season now and I say... don't believe it. One pin for 30 and under but 30 & 40 deserve separate pins in my opinion. That is unless you're shotting 80lbs and a 200 grain arrow. Then you could probably get away with one pin. But with a 400'ish grain arrow at 60 or 70 lbs... there is enough difference to justify separate pins, again IMO. cmc

  5. Just a reminder that all that money from those tages goes right back to the wildlife in AZ with habitat projects!!! I say 'thank you' to those that buy those tags as the money is well needed in our state for conservation and habitat improvement. cmc

  9. I have a T/C Encore that I got for the 50cal muzzy but have been really tempted to get some rifle barrels. Any of you folks have some Encores that are making out to be pretty good shooters? Ones I have in mind were... 243 for when the kids get ready to start hunting. 25-06 for my wife to use on pigs and other med sized game. 300win mag in case I feel the need to jiggle something manly. Maybe something small for jack rabbits (although I already have a .17 hmr) maybe 22-250 or 220 swift. thanks, cmc

    3 for 3 this fall

This is a pretty good accomplishment and all fine animals. Nice bull, bird and buck. I had a streak going with taking a javelina, antelope and a bear all with my bow this year. Trying to wrap up the season with a buck and lion. I'd be happy with a buck, I'd faint if I tag a lion with my bow. For a few years going I had shot a javelina with a pistol, an elk with a bow and a deer with a rifle each year. Fun times. Again that's quite the task taking all three. Well done. cmc

    Rifle Range Commandos

was up at Pima Pistol. If I hadn't stopped and chatted I'd walked away with a whole different perspective. Which is why I don't try to judge folks that much. Just let them be who they are. cmc

    Rifle Range Commandos

Although I don't believe there are 'range commandos' as I believe to each their own and only care about unsafe range practices but I had a somewhat similar ordeal although mine turned out to be interesting. I was at the range sighting in a rifle and the range is pretty empty due to the humidity and heat of the summer. There are two guys a few benches down with more gear at the range than I own and a few nice looking rifles. I figured they'd fallen into what you guys are calling range commandos. Their shots were pretty sporadic and after they'd shoot they'd hoot and holler. I was curious to what was going on so I put my binos on their target and the bullet holes were all over the place. So a few more shots and again the guys high five and talk about how well of a shot just sent. I again look at the target 100yds out and just shrug my shoulders as if these guys are nuts if they call that good shooting. Two more shots go by and that's it I had to think something else is up. I wander by and ask how's the shooting. They say 'pretty good'. We talk what rifles they are shooting and how they think they finally got their rounds dialed in. I ask what kind of groups they are shooting. The guy holds up a target that blew me away with clover leafs of rounds touching rounds on each target. So in my mind I think they're shooting off bad rounds. While I'm looking at the target I look forward to the target down range and the guy looks at me and says.... oh don't look the groupings on that target we're shooting flies. "What?" I asked. "Where shooting flies that land on the target. "No way.." "Yep". "well I gotta see this" I go over and get setup on my 15x's and he guys say "We got one" I look at the target and see a fly on the upper corner. "Ok get ready and keep an eye on that fly". BOOM! A hole appears exactly where the fly WAS! All I could say was "Nice shot" smile and nod at the guys as they continued to have fun in the sweltering heat. I wonder if you need a tag to shoot flies at the range.... hmmm... So maybe... he was just shooting flies. Never judge the paper holes for how well the shooter and rifle is... cmc

    Encores

Thanks for the info and links. I had been to GB a few times and ya... lots of info. The 25-06 is highest on the list thus far. That and a shotgun turkey barrel. Not really an addiction for me as I prefer to bow hunt but I'd like to try something new for my wife. She loves turkey hunting, hence the shotgun barrel, and the 25-06 is a nice coues/pig round with little drop, well a lot less than her .308. I'd save that for elk. cmc

    7mm MAG

No kidding. I was looking at a .257 wby and thinking maybe I should think 25-06 instead as I could only imagine how much the .257 rounds would cost having paid an arm for my 7mm rounds. Turns out .257 wby is only $2 more a box than my 7mm's... I can't believe the same box of 7mm DOUBLED in cost in just three years. DOUBLED!!! Just not right. cmc

    7mm MAG

I've been shooting 7mm for the last 12 years. I use to shoot 150 soft point (power point) for years but didn't like how they were working on coues so I switched up to 140 grain ballistic tips that shot exactly on with my Leupold B&C 4.5-14 scope, and I mean dead on with the hash marks for yardage. The 140 grain did a number on a bear but I have yet to use them in anything else. Seeing though what other ballistic tips have done to other game as well studying more about a 150 grain bullet should hold better in the wind I'm opting to move to a 150 accubond or the like and see how they work. I've seen a 7mm work numbers on antelope, elk and pigs with various rounds and to be honest I think any you mention would work. Find what groups best and like Joe said... practice a lot with it. Buy quality you'll thank yourself later for it. cmc

    Encores

Thanks guys. I'm left handed as well so something that myself, my wife and kids could all shoot is quite appealing. The compact breakdown ability also might work well on some pack in hunts where I can break the gun down to distribute weight and/or space. cmc

  23. WOW.... nice cate.... So did you tag the lion or claim it as self defense shooting? :D Sweet buck that your wife shot. Congrats on the hunt. My wifes first ever deer hunt is this weekend. I hope to have the same story but I'll use the rifle on the cat not my pistol thank you very much.
  24. Oh I'd love to see how easy that works on a 60cSX.. (hint... hint... Ron) Let me know. cmc
