    Cool Pic!!

seeing the dust behind the elk and the way his back legs are I think this is his second jump after the shot and the arrow isn't passing through but instead just sticking out of him. This would then let the arrow flop around and why the arrow appears to be traveling uphill on exit. Although in regards to an arrow not passing straight through... I had an arrow pass through and elk and do just about a 90deg turn out the other side after clipping a rib on exit so I can believe it if it is a pass through exiting upward. Stuff happens fast. In any event it's an awesome picture. cmc

    17 HMR

Yes like they said there are two flavors for .17 cal. .17HMR that is a 22mag necked down and the .17 Mach II which is a .22LR necked down. I've used my .17HMR for taking a turkey, although the AZGFD just changed fall hunts to shooting shot only so I can't do that again, but we've used them on squirrels quite well. Little overkill but gets the job done. Accurate as all getout up to 150yds. And I mean at 50-100 no drop what so ever and tiny tiny group. All that from a cheap Savage, light barrel, plastic stock .17HMR topped with a $30 scope. Can't beat that. Have fun they are a blast to shoot. And yes... great varmint gun. cmc
  5. I know this feeling all too well. I still haven't found ANYONE that is willing to apply and become a WM since all they spout is that they themselves could do better or know exactly how things should be done. Not one person, go figure. BTW... tell your buddy I said hi. cmc Chris McCotter

  7. I don't even think you need to go for a duplicate. Contact the G&F and AzHOL to make sure but I want to think they reprint a tag for the HOL hunter and your tag gets destroyed. cmc

    Elk bugling

    +1 ditto.
  11. Folks. I have a friend that runs a website geared towards UA Football and we hold home game tailgate parties for that message board members. This is the trailer that stores all our football tailgate party gear the 6ft BBQ, chairs, tables, tents, and dodads. The probem is we outgrew it and are buying a bigger one. This is a 5x6 carson trailer that we bought new from Carson in 2003 (2003 model). It's duty in life was storage and tow from my house to the U of A for home football games. Outside of the ociasonal trip around town and one time to ASU and once to a UCLA away game it's sat in my yard. The front battery boxes we'd like to keep as that's what powers our inverter which drives our TV, satalite dish and other 110v accesories. Inside I have custom shelves and hodlers for our tent pipes but plan on relocting that to our new trailer unless someone wants talk about leaving it in there. I will say that there are stains in the plywood inside from the BBQ residue on the floor but that can be painted over. I forgot to photo the inside but it's crammed full of tailgate stuff anyways. Contact me if you have intrest in this thing as we need to move it fast. Price. $1700 o.b.o (I called Carson and these are going for $2010 on the lot today brand new not includeing tax/lic/registration)

  17. Having hunted archery antelope myself I learned that shooting an antelope with a bow is a true challenge. Then to shoot a nice one like you my friend just did is just awesome!!! Big congrats! I can not wait for my next archery lope tag as I am hooked on chasing them with a bow. It's not for everyone but it for me I know that. cmc

  21. No, I read the whole thing. "They see tags as revenue, we see tags as opportunity" ...that told me all I needed to know. cmc LIKE I SAID BEFORE NOTHING MENTIONED ABOUT ELK DOWN SOUTH....what am I missing that you are getting? I get that for you, it's all about money. That's fine. Your opinion and I'm not out to change it. I see the department answering the public outcry for the hunters of this state over the past few years of "I haven't been drawn in x amount of years, why is the department so stingy with tags, all the surveys (even like this one on CWT) keep saying the public wants more tags and more opportunity" Sooooo they restructure for more tags, quantity over quality just like Colorado, and now they get the public outcry of they are only in this business for the money. I guess my point is they'll never win in the (internet) publics eye. Someones bound to be disgruntled.
  22. They are taking lessons from CO. Heck WE have a commissioner that's retired biologist from the CO G&F that's now calling the shots here in AZ. I might remind you that the majority of CO manages herds for Quanity... not Quality. Hence the changes you're seeing take place recently. That alone is probably the root cause of your observations and frustration. At least from my perspective working extensively with the department. Oh and I don't put blame on that one individual mind you. Wildlife management is a group effort. cmc
  23. uh... it was 98% based on tag shuffeling around. You might want to go look that one up. When time permits I'll find ya the info. cmc
  24. Donnie - you and I both know there isn't a thing anyone can do or say to change your mind on the department so I'm not going down that road. I just chuckle as I sure didn't see this type of attitude when they cut the archery cow elk tags....??? I wonder why. Oh that's right no antlers involved so it doesn't matter. Toss in some antlers on that animal and folks get in a tizzy. I fail to see that logic & attitude. Don't get me wrong... I have extreme concerns over the changes. cmc
