    spring bear

after 14 years of hunting in 34A exclusively I'm moving on to somewhere else for the same reasons. But oh well comes with the territory. I'm ok with it in some ways. Gets me to see new country and test my abilities as a hunter.

    spring bear

tell me you've seen a 300lb sow in 34A... I want to see that one. It doesn't matter what I did you all need to call the 1-800 bear number listed in the G&F regs to see if your unit is closed before you go hunting. Good luck to all. Don't let 1% odds mean a thing to you. Don't give up!!!! Luck happens to anyone. Even me. cmc

    Drew a supplemental elk tag

wait a second... I went up and helped out on a population mgmt elk hunt in 4B now that I think of it. It was up in the Joseph City area. It was a pain in the butt. Lots of gas and all we ever saw were the back end of two spikes running mach 5 away out of some serious tall salt ceder. It was just after Thanksgiving about two-three years ago. He signed the tag down to his son so I went up to help. Snowed like crazy the last day. At first it wasn't worth all the effort to go up but looking back glad we did. Good luck! cmc

    Found this today

We found a dead MD buck that impaled itself on a fence post at a water catchment. I'd been dead for a few days and the yotes got the innards and just began working on the hind end. You could tell it thrashed around a bit but that metal post went through and through from chest to out the top of the back. I figured it was at night and it bolted and jumped but landed at the wrong place at the wrong time. No camera at that time to take a picture. cmc

    Truly Unbelievable!

Even better... cut out the tongue and put it in your back pack then close the mouth up. You got field proof and you got DNA. Now if you come back and see someone on your elk just walk away and contact the G&F. Don't confront the person just show the G&F the tongue and tell them you shot it and tagged it. They'll go and talk it over with the one that's stolen your elk. I bet you'll get your elk ( or insert game animal here) back. cmc

    az raffle tag buck

Ditto... I seen it down at Deans the other day. It's a nice buck. I know he worked his butt of chasing bucks all around down south. That must have been some serious fun!!! The hunt was self guided. Unless you count friends and all. Of course they might chime in other wise about who guided who... ha ha ha... Maybe next year. cmc

    Drew a supplemental elk tag

The G&F WM should be precise in telling you where you can and can't hunt during this limited hunt and I doubt it's the whole unit. It's usually very specific area to concentrate on problem elk. Just so you know.... if you kill and elk on this trip and if you draw a tag from the upcoming draw than you will have to forfeit that tag!!!! 1 elk per year, not draw. You will not lose any bonus points though so that's a good thing if that matters to you. Now this being your first time, yes a rifle and I'd do a ton of research. At least you should be close some towns to get the meat processed. Hope for snow so you can get an idea of tracks and movement. Be wary of private property as these hunts are usually near it. Also if you shoot a bow than it might be wise to take it and let the G&F know you can hunt with a bow. They might put you in a area that's not good for rifle hunters and better your odds of harvesting an animal. Best of luck. cmc
  12. Take this for what it is since the auther works for the mine company... This mine is planned in the Rosemont Junction area of the Santa Ritas located in GMU 34A. cmc
  13. We did that before I posted and the gentleman with the NM G&F said there was no guarantee that the lic. would be here in time before we left so we went in search of finding other means of getting them. We now have things taken care of. Thanks to all that helped via PMs and such. No I just need to dust off the shotgun. cmc
  14. I'm headed to NM for some duck hunting this next weekend and we're having some issues as to where we can buy the proper license and state stamps somewhere after hours? We're heading from Tucson through Reserve area. At this point we're really unsure as to which way. I guess it depends on where we can get the licenses after hours so we don't have to wait till Friday morning to do it and miss out on the hunting. Any help would be great. You can email me at cmc@azsj.org thanks cmc

    Rut is On

ditto... no rutting where I was hunting. Saw three 90+ bucks and put the stalk on a 115" monster. Got to within 30yds and just as I began to draw I got busted by a doe and spike that kept following the buck. Oh well the rush was awesome and I had a blast just stalking him. Not too many times in ones life do ya get to get within 30yds of that big of a deer. cmc
