Timney Trigger in Ruger M77 Mark II
cmc replied to sjvcon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I put one in my Ruger just a few years ago.... Not difficult but go really slow with filing off to fit. I mean one pass of the file, then install and test fit. Do not over due it or you have to either weld more metal on or get a new one. cmc -
I posted this elsewhere but wanted to get some thoughts of folks here as well. I know there a bunch of folks where with tags up there like me and curious to what's running through your mind.... -------------------- So I'm sitting here wondering what should be done after the smoke clears for the upcoming hunts in 1 & 27? I was running numbers on post Rodeo/Chediski (R/C) fire for 3A/3C and see that the following years hunt numbers stayed the same and in fact the demand for those tags went up. I know they didn't do any type of a refund process and wonder if that was the right thing to do? I know there was a region wide adjustment in tags after the fire but that was in line with the overall elk management direction, not fire related. A few things I'm looking back in time for info that maybe you all can help.... How long did the forest service keep a complete 'no access' into the fire area for the R/C. I know in 2004 they lifted the no camping as my wife had an elk tag in there and we were able to camp in the burn area. Did any of you have a tag on that first early elk hunt in the burn area after the R/C fire and if yes, do you recall what the restrictions were at the time? What was the road access like? I'm not against a refund in tags for hunters holding tags, I for one will keep my 27 tag, but seeing the summer and winter habitat burn in the same fire I'm cautions to support a refund in tags as I feel it might be best to reduce the numbers of animals in the area for this next year as with an over abundance of critters going into what could be a rough forage year could spell for a lot of winter die off. Two concerns are high on my list.... how bad was the burn and what will we see in rains for this summer/early fall? Since I don't own a crystal ball I'm sitting here running post R/C numbers and pondering what should be the course on this fire with tags and future hunts? What's running through your mind? (Oh and I'm still bitter to not be out bear hunting this weekend... I knew I'd be donating a bear tag to the department this year but I was hoping to get some use out of the one that took a few years to draw. ) Thanks, cmc

what kind of data would help?

Speaking of camping and going back to that hunt this early fall...Just follow suit with the R/C fire access/camping time line we should see restricted access in the future that will most likely result in no camping in the fire area for a year or more. Proximity to a large area that will allow camping for units 27 and south end of unit 1 is close to nil. Day hunting 27 from Alpine is going to cost some with lots of gas money and hotel fees. From Springerville don't plan on getting much sleep as I've done that several times and the gas bills are nasty. There isn't much in the way of camp spots off the rim south along 191 in 27 that would house the number of hunters bound for that unit for the early archery cow/bull hunts as well later rifle hunts and deer hunts. Where the heck is everyone going to camp? I recall some of the 3C hunters camping north of the 60 in 3A on the state land as it wasn't closed and just drove south a bit to hunt for the day. Not quite the case with state lands around 27 and those areas south of Big Lake....

So my question is still... if you're left in charge with the post fire issues around access, upcoming hunts and dispersed camping... what would you do? cmc

Mine is on order....

Congrats Cody.... I know you guys put in some serious scouting efforts and it shows you got into the right areas and worked hard to pull off a successful hunt. My luck seems to have run out with the recent news they shut down the Coronado forest to all access. I think my season is over with no rain in sight. Again that thing is an awesome looking bear. I'm jealous and wish I could have made it out more than just one day. cmc

Wilderness Athlete Products added to the store
cmc replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Store
Amanda - I use the Hydrate & Recover and Energy & Focus on a daily basis on my daily workouts (Tubs of course). I've used the Lean Life for several months with good results and I took the Altitude Advantage for my CO high country hunt where we parked the truck at 10,500ft and hiked up to 12K to hunt. Never a had an issue with living and training at 2500ft and jumping right into a pack in hunt above 10K ft. Then I usually get a 3 and 5 day WA pack through the year to stock up for our pack in hunts and I have nothing but great reviews about the Wilderness Athlete products. I'll add that my brother spoke highly of the items and I put a lot of trust in his review with his 20 years as a personal trainer and gym owner. Put quality in and you get quality out! Cheers, cmc -
Didn't I see this jeep north of Tucson during archery deer season this past winter? ...Nice rig.

Yep - My wife got one opening day of the early hunt. Her first gobbler ever.

On my Dream Season I have the New Eclipse 5 pin. I replaced an Extreme 900 sight for this as I wanted something with a wrap to gain brighter pins. With that I've found what I wanted in that it's bright, easy to setup and durable. Since I shoot left handed I tend to have to rebuild the sight to get it setup for a south paw. This sight was quite easy to do such and I was shooting in now time. I've used the sight in the sun, rain, snow, and blind and found it works well in all conditions. I will say that I do not use the light and couldn't tell you where it ended up in my shop. edit - I also went with this sight for the 3rd axis adjustments as I tend to hunt a lot of steep terrain. My Extreme 900 didn't offer that feature and on a 40yd shot down or uphill I was finding myself shooting to the side. Turns out my bubble wasn't trued up for the 3rd axis and having me hold wrong on shots. I don't think I'll own a sight without the 3rd axis adjustment ever again. cmc

"Fear the Fork" Seriously that's the new slogan?

I sure like my archery shop best... Although the guy in there is sometimes a flake... but then again it's 25ft from my living room. Lol...

I too have heard some good things about Byron's strings. He's been in the archery game for a long time, no offence Bryon if you're reading this... As for hard to get quality strings these days.... If Byron is overbooked I have bucknasty and John's Customs that are as good as any Winners Choice string I've owned. In fact I rate them better with the serving they do over WC. There are also about half the cost of WC strings/cables.

I did look at the Banks and know a guy that has one on his 2002 and he speaks highly of it. For me the Edge/Exhaust setup met my needs, budget and was a breeze to install at home for a simple upgrade the the truck. Mind you all that did was get my truck equal to a 2008 Duramax in HP/TQ so if one were to buy a 2009/2011 you're already ahead of my Edge in those figures. the EZ Edge isn't a hot rod setup by any means. I just wanted a little more 'umph' for the hills. My only complaint is not getting the exhaust resonator that goes ahead of the muffler to help with the louder exhaust. I dislike how loud the 4" exhaust is even with a muffler on it. Just been too lazy to add it in after the fact. cmc

for you dodge guys... how long are you front breaks lasting?

2004 CC 4x4 Duramax, w/Edge EZ, MBRP 4" exhaust, boost & EGR gauges (a must when pulling) running 285 BFG ATs. I tow a 27ft 5th wheel that has 12ft slide out, not sure on dry weight. I pull based on my EGT and in setting #2 on the Edge and it goes up 7 mile hill from Tucson to Globe without much issue keeping speed limit or above. I say that guages are a must as even running stock (no Edge or exhaust) I could hit 1300-1400degs EGT without issue pulling my 20ft empty toy hauler to the White Mountains. Putting on the 4" exhaust dropped my EGT by around 300deg. Adding the Edge chip put it back up to stock EGT levels from the testing I did as I added parts. I'm around 10mpg towing the trailer up to it's summer spot 11-12 pulling it home. I say around because if I pull in the mid day heat it's worse than pulling it up around 7pm when the cool air helps create more power. Then I'm at 15-16mpg around town all hand calculate with tire size adjustment.

Will the have any left handed bows?

I've had that tag twice... It's a lot of fun but a lot of work. PM sent.

I helped out a G&F WM with a bobcat that had it's back legs crushed by a car. The WM gets it in a catch pole and comments that the cat 'wasn't putting up much of a fight'. He drags it out away from a house and hands me the end of the pole and says 'don't let go' with a smirk on his face while digging around in the back of his truck. Needless to say I had a death grip on that pole and was impressed how strong that little cat was even with busted up back legs. I describe it to folks as - picture having the Tasmanian devil cartoon character at the end of a 6ft pole and he's out to kill you. Funny now, not at the time. I went away with a whole new respect for those little cats and if I ever have to tangle with one up close I hope I don't miss on the first shot.

That one is easy... I'm just waiting for them to build my EVO in left hand model which hopefully will be next week or the week after. cmc

Bear Down Cats.... Coach K is very lucky Miller has some class. Coach K likes to run up the score and Miller had every chance to embarrass Coach K like he's never seen before. Coach K needs to send Miller a thank you card. Enjoy that long flight home Duke... you deserved it. cmc
