Good for you!... Not only dropping the lbs, but for your generosity as well! May you be blessed with successful hunts throughout 2010!
-
Someone needs to jump on that 514.... I can't think of a better starter .22 for a beginning hunter!
-
Thank you so much for the information.
I'll give the 7828 a shot..... Already been seating bullets .010 off the lands and using 215Ms. I've never used a concentricity gauge before. I'll look into one...

This may be a longshot, but here goes:
I bought four tickets to Sunday's game against the Packers and only need three. While it would be nice to have the empty seat next to me, it would be better if i could recoup some of the costs.
Section 137, row 32, seat 13 the ticket's face price is $85 and that's what I'd like to get for it. (after convenience fees and whatnot, my actual cost for the ticket was just over $100)
If you're in the Tucson area, I'll even give you a ride to and from the game. If not, We can meet at the game....
Oh yeah, there's a catch. We'll be sitting with my wife and father-in-law... They're huge packer fans... sigh..

Most of my pre-season shooting consists of blowing up milk jugs filled with water at various distances. However since this year was my first time messing with elevation turrets instead of holdover, I did shoot this group at 495 yards. (Prone off a bipod and a rolled-up towel under the buttstock)
I didn't put a tape measure to it, but I'd reckon its somewhere between 5 and 6 inches....
One of my buddies has abandoned the 140 grain bullets in favor of heavier Berger offerings with a greater BC.... I just have so darn many 140s.....
-
I like my 7RUM.... Factory 700 Sendero. With moly'd 140 gr Nosler BTs and a heap of Re25, I'm getting 3665 fps. Moly'd 140 gr. Barnes TSX give me 3600 even. (My rifle really likes the ballistic tips...)
Can't comment on barrel life as I'm only approaching 400 rounds through this tube and everything's fine so far.

I'll take the powder and .308 bullets...... Pm sent

Just came across this thread.... Very cool! I have always wanted to start a collection of cartridges, Soooo, I rummaged through the reloading stuff and came up with this.

.22-250 Rem
.243 Win
6mm Rem Ack Imp.
.25-225 Win.

7mm STW
7mm RUM
.30 Rem
.30-30 WCF

1 box(100) .308 165gr Nosler solid base boat tail $20
I'll take these... PM on the way
-
I don't think you'd go wrong at all with that rig.... My "Coues' specific" setup is a remington Sendero in 7mm RUM with a target turreted Meopta 4-16X44 atop.
-
I'd like to buy one of them from you.... I'll call you in the morning.
-
I had the same tripod/head for some time.... Excellent set-up. Extremely lightweight and compact for what it offers...

Lark is dead on regarding the ballistic performance between the two cartridges.... In my rifles (one winchester 70 and one remington 700, both sporting 24" shilen tubes), I am getting 3250 fps with a 165 gr. bullet in the 300 Win. and 3165fps with a 140 gr bullet in the 7mm mag. That being said, there is a noticable difference in recoil. the 7mm Rem. is much easier on my shoulder. I know stock design is a major factor in felt recoil. Both of my rifles have Mcmillan stocks duplicating the shape of the factory offerings.
Regardless, both will kill deer and elk out as far as you can be accurate.
If'n it were my decision, I'd be all over the 7mm. the savage is a good rifle, but i like the "feel" of howa 1500s a bit more... Plus I am not a big fan of muzzlebrakes or toting around more weight (hvy barrels) than I need.

I'm thinkin' .45 auto...... This is a great deal on a solid, well built pistola...

Now is a good time to take pics and mark structure on your GPS so that you know what the bottom looks like and where to fish when the water comes backExcellent idea!

I teach spacial education at public school in the Tucson area. Have been working with students in grades K-8 for ten years now. If you are a parent of a special needs child, you know how confusing the sp. ed. process can be. Feel free to contact me if you are in this situation.

hello - such high fence areas/ranchs - have imported eastern/texas whitetails for yrs. note the center picture of th e thick racked buck - - the huge white neck patch - this patch is NEVER seen on real coues deer !!! GarySorry Gary, I wasn't clear in my first post. I am aware of fenced in operations, such as in TX... I guess I meant to say i never heard of hunting Coues' behind fences.
Didn't realize this topic had been brought up here before. Sorry for all the excitement. Carry on, folks....

+1 on boning them out in the field. If done correctly, you'll have a pile of entrails, ribcage, backbone and hide (if no taxidermy) left out for the coyotes and ravens. I prefer to leave the bones in the hams and shoulders (gotta have a few soupbones!)
I carry a handful of homemade game sacks (look like pillow cases) and get the chunks of meat into them to cool everything down as well as keep the bugs, and debris off.
Meat gets transferred to plastic bags before going on ice. Keeping the meat dry inhibits the growth and spread of bacteria that can spoil the meat.

Hunting coues deer behind high fences. Had no idea such place existed. The deer in the photos even have tags in their ears....

mad photoshop skills....

50mm objective scopes...... AKA "Hubbles"
-
Considering all the damage that was done.... A javelina BBQ would only be fair.
Seriously, though, good to hear that nobody was hurt.

I like ample eye relief and low mounted scopes. A leupold 6.5-20X40 affords me both. Add an m1 elevation turret and I'm a happy camper....

Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14X40 AO, Matte, dual-X reticle. #800475
Perfect glass, very slight ring maks. Small ding on the eyepeice bell. Does not affect function of the scope at all, but it is there (1/4 inch).
$250 + $10 if shipping is needed.
