    Leupold vs vortex

I can't complain about either one... I own both and haven't had a problem with either one.. no problems returning to zero either. I wouldn't do Vortex's HS Long range scope though, they almost had a good thing until they put 1/2 MOA clicks for the elevation! 1/2 MOA is counter intuitive for a long range scope. Vortex did however just come out with a new scope in the last couple of weeks that is still in that same price range and offers many great features. Its real similar to the long range, but it has 1/4 MOA clicks for both elevation and windage. The new scope they call the HST right now it is only offered in 4-16x44, but it has the external turrets, zero stop and the 30MM tube. For me I like those features offered on the Vortex and would probably do another one of those. ....but if you flipped a coin I don't think you would be disappointed with either one.

    Mesquite Sugar Cookies

I purposely planted a Mesquite tree for the very reason of being able to cook with the pods. I am still working on the landscaping around my house... but I wanted to do as many edible plants as possible. The mesquite seemed to fit the bill just right... I planted the tree on the west side of my house and is now working to give me some shade in the summer and since it is a desert species and established now, I don't have to worry about watering it anymore. (in case times ever get rough it will take care of itself and still give me the shade and food among other things.) I just planted the tree last year and in the last week or so I have been pulling the ripe pods off of the tree and have been saving them to make flour. I use to dislike the Mesquite... I can appreciate it more so now... there is a difference in the taste of the pods too depending on which type of mesquite tree they come from as well. Plus when I trim the tree I have great wood for bbq'ing too! Win Win!

    WTB REMINGTON 788

Actually I know the .308 in the 788 is considered a long action unlike in say a REM 700... I recently purchased a new stock for my 788 and almost screwed up and ordered the short action stock
  7. Wow... sad to see that our president can't even agree with someone who is actually educated and makes perfect sense. No wonder he wants to keep us down. Pretty sad his wife can applaud good parts of the speach but not the president. Its no wonder it takes more obscure places to find speaches like this. A speach like this should have been on all of the nightly news stations... I wonder why it wasn't? That Doctor seems to have a pretty level head on his shoulders... wonder what his thoughts are on gun control?

    Pack Goats for sale

Well I started a new job and don't have the time to spend with them like I did before and I hate to see them go to waste. I don't want to sell them, but I probably should. I would like to sale them all together if possible... They will come with all the packs (panniers) and saddles (sawbucks) that I have for them... you take them and you are ready to go and before hunting season is over too! My truck is pretty tall and they hop in the bed with no trouble, so hauling them is easy. They are all pretty young with plenty of years left in them.. The oldest is the doe.. 2 1/2 to 3 years old and has been pregnant once. Easy temperment and follows well on the trail. (no horns) The second goat is Haas and is about a year and a half old and super friendly willing to please. He is the largest and is the reddish and black one with horns. The third is Shooter white and gray he is probably about a year old maybe a little more. He took a little while to warm up to me and I wasn't sure how he would do on the trail, but he really surprised me on how well he does... he went everywhere I went and there was some pretty rough country. Great herd for someone wanting to get started with pack goats. $600 for the whole works.. goats and all the tack and if you take the whole bunch I'll give you what I have left for food for them too. Best way to get a hold of me is texting.. but if you call, leave a message and I will get back to you. Todd 602-677-3791

Oh and you may as well tape up the rest of the barrel and that pretty Zeiss scope... you don't want those to get scratched either!

    Pack Goats for sale

Heck a 1/3 of an acre is way more than I have... I live in an area that is questionable as to wether or not I should even have them. Like Anderson_HotD mentioned she has 20 acres... shoot with that much you would probably rarely have to even buy food for them. Right now I spend probably about $60 or so a month on food. As far as hiking in and building a pen or something for them.. it would have to be a pretty good pen as they are pretty good at escaping. I don't find it a problem having them right there with me on the trail and then when I get something.. saves the trip of going back to get help .. you already have 3 helpers to pack your monster out. And in case anyone is wondering Kooter is being a wise guy.. they have never kicked anyone and JeffCros is right... I guess I'm selling my little buddies... You guys are goofy!

    Pack Goats for sale

Well I haven't had them on any archery hunts, but on a rifle hunt they are no big deal to just follow along. The closest to something like that was years ago when I got my first coues with a single goat I had at the time... I had just come up through this saddle and met two bucks on the trail and they were only about 20 yards away. Both bucks stopped and looked and I had time to put my gun up and decide if I wanted to shoot (I think their attention was on the goat the whole time) I shot and dropped the one and the other jumped and then came out from behind the bush and stood there for probabaly another 10-15 seconds.. plenty of time to take another shot (if I would have missed the first shot). I'm sure the deer stuck around as long as they did because I had the goat with me. I did try calling coyotes a couple times with the goats I have now.. none of the stands were real good set ups.. I was glassing and already there and decided to blow on the call a little. I didn't ever see anything come in, but I don't think having the goats would scare them either.

    Pack Goats for sale

The goats are super low maintenance on the trail.. The first time I took them out when I was training I used lead ropes and then after that I realized they don't want to be by themselves and follow me everywhere..(better than a dog). Even when I sit down to glass and they are feeding, they always keep me in sight probably never go more than 20 yards from me. You really don't need much to feed them on the trail either. They usually find plenty to eat while browsing along the trail and the same with water.. I'll give them some of mine but their bodies get water from the green plants they eat. If you planned on being out for a few days you might take a little extra, but for the most part what they get on the trail is enough. Right now they are still younger and haven't loaded them down real heavy.. the larger one I have done about 20-25 pounds. The doe is probably about ready, but I just recently got rid of her babies and didn't take her on the last hunting trip. I'll usually mess with them in the yard for a bit and put the packs on them to keep them use to things, like yesterday I had them in the yard with the packs on for a bout an hour.
  17. Ya I guess I could do that on the stocks... my phone number is at the top text me or give me a call

    Pack Goats for sale

Ya my wife didn't realize I put them up for sale and she is sad to see them go, they are fun as pets too. I haven't posted them on Craigslist yet.. I would rather see someone put them to good use here chasing coues. Ya my space is questionable too and thats part of the reason for getting rid of them.

    Opening morning buck

Well if you would have waited.. we could have packed it out with the goats (or if I didn't get stuck at work). Dang you.. we all broke the 110" mark and then you went and raised the bar even higher! Well done brother man!

    Pack animals??

Well... I got lucky and made it out hunting one more day.. I did see a buck at 870 yards for just a couple of seconds before he dropped into some trees and slipped away from me. Anyways it was still good to get out and I figured I would post a few more pics for you guys some are from the last day that I made it back out too.

    Pack animals??

Well I got back from my hunt... although I didn't fill my tag, it was still lots of fun and the goats were great to have along. One of them it was his first trip ever and did surprisingly well, never used a lead rope or anything and was always right there. We went through some rough thick steep country and only a couple of times did I have to help them. It was fun knowing that in a couple of places where we hunted that if we would have got something that it wasn't going to be a big deal to get it packed out. Great companions on the trail. There was one point that we spooked a couple of deer and were about 125 yards away... when they got out in the open and looked back at us they seemed to settle down and started to feed a little bit before they crested the ridge they were on... too bad they were only does.

    Pack animals??

I've got two babies I don't have room to keep that I need to get rid of... I've already put the saddles and empty panniers on them just to get them use to it. They are Alpine/Boer crosses.. mom is Alpine which I have.. the dad I never saw. I use the mom for packing too. I was going to post a pic.. but I don't see where to do it from my phone....

    Pack animals??

Well I only recently got goats but they have been fun so far. I got them early part of this year and was able to take them on a javelina hunt with very little training and surprisingly they did quite well. I looked at Alpines and Oberhaslis and I have both right now.. so far my favorite is the Oberhasli which are tougher to find around here. I don't always get to get out as much as I like so I'll throw the packs on them in the backyard just to keep them use to them and carrying a little bit of weight. Its kind of a gray area in Mesa, but I don't live on acreage or anything and I just have them in my backyard in a residential neighborhood (no HOA of course). I got the idea from another friend that has a couple of dair goats in his backyard in Mesa as well. The LaManchas are another good breed to look at, my friend has 2 LaManchas that he uses for packing as well. They are super easy to train.. mine were just regular goats with no training. After a few short sessions in the backyard getting them use to the packs I took them out a few times to the desert for some short hikes and quickly realized they were going to follow me without the need of a lead rope. Its cool because I just load them in the back of my truck (you get funny looks going down the road) and away I go. I put one to the test when we went scouting in August.. I didn't tie him up or anyting and just left him outside the tent all night.. I bet he didn't go 20 yards from the tent (he did continue to graze all night too which i heard as he was standing right next to the tent as he munched on dry leaves). I have my deer hunt this coming weekend and am looking forward to trying out the 3 packers I have now!

    Shooting bags/rests

I have been working on some shooting bags for rifle shooting that work great in several different applications. These are all new made of heavy cordura canvas sewn with an industrial sewing machine using heavier thread to handle the wear and tear. The bags are empty so you can fill them with whatever works for your intended use. They are a versatile shape that can be used many directions to gain the required height you need as well as easily fill to the density you are looking for too. Use it as a front or rear bag or have two of them, one for the front and one for the rear. One really cool thing about them too is that not only are they good on the bench or shooting prone at the range, but when you are making that long shot out in the field you can easily take it with you. The mouth is wide and closes with velcro so while out in the field you can easily carry it empty and then grab a hand full or two of dirt throw in real quick and set up for the shot. This is a universal bag to cover many shooting needs. The price of the bags are $25 each and I can ship it (shipping is already included) to you or meet you somewhere if you are close by. (I'm in Mesa near Bass Pro)
