    Jeff,  There is Open class freestyle every spring through summer. Cole should coach! He would be a darn good coach, like his ole man, a chip from the ole block! By the way, Im also getting back into coaching a little. I cant dedicate myself like I had before and I sure do miss it. I probably wont go to most tournaments but ill get a chance to roll with the kids and coach a few matches.

    Boy would I love to take them off your hands, i have the perfect set up for them however the pack goats I have would probably beat them up. Do you have the sawbucks and panniers for them too? I cant seem to find the "pinned" pack goat section I started a couple years ago. Maybe Amanda removed them when the format here changed??  

    2 and 1/2 are a little young yet, should wait until they are 3 years old to pack any weight on them but they could start training to have the sawbucks and panniers on them empty.

    Every morning I put the traps in the back of my truck and drove the cats 19 miles to work, which was an industrial area in Tolleson. Let em go and never saw them again.

    So your the A- hole letting the cats go in my neighborhood! Im kidding but please understand you aren't fixing a problem. My company finally got rid a of a bunch of cats people dropped off that hung around for a few years. There was a lady that would feed them and even take them to the vet if they were sick, needed spay or neutered. People, please dont catch cats and relocate to someplace else. Dispatch them. really, it isn't that hard to do.

    Ask any kid if they know how to read the time on an analog clock. You will be shocked at the answer. Home schooled kids are generally smarter/more educated however most, not all are socially dysfunctional. Shy, get pushed around dont know how to take criticism from their peers etc. etc.

     

    I agree ten fold it has more to do with parenting specially in Az with the diverse kids from all over. I see kids from California as an example, horrible grades barley get by, parents too busy to be at their sports events. Then the exact opposite, usually kids from mid west, great grades, parents on top of them 24/7, at every sporting event, great support system.

     

    Im not teacher, just a coach but IMO its far more the parents fault when it comes to education than it is the teachers who's hands are generally tied.

    bojangles, I guess maybe I should have said any large cutting Mechanical. Ulmers Edge is not one of them. I only shoot a MBH for the big holes they make so I shoot 2 inch or better. The Ulmers Edges blades by design also swivels around bone. If you dont mind my asking, how many yards were you from your deer and what species, Coue's?

     

    Fixed blades can and do tune well out of 300 plus set ups.It takes more time and its not as forgiving (your form needs to be good) but it is still be done by the majority of new 300 plus fps bow shooters everyday.

     

    A heavier arrow with 15% or more FOC out of your bow with the same BH will out penetrate your set up. Bow tuning, FOC and proper arrow spine are the reasons arrows correct quicker. Not the BH, if its BH then something is out of tune. If your just going to shoot little deer at short yardages then you have a good set up. It doesn't sound like your hunting elk so i doubt you will ever have an issue.

    Mechanicals have come a long way over the years, some way better than others, and IMO so has education in choosing arrow weights and FOC when using them. The OP never answered the question I asked on his arrow weight. I suspect he is shooting a light weight arrow for the speed factor and his penetration stinks because he has no momentum leftover to get the job done. Fast bows or a faster bow isnt going to help his cause. If he did his job and looked the Rage head over before the shot to be sure the blades are locked in place then it's not the Rage at fault either. Although I do have one slight theory of maybe one blade rotating at the hit rather than deploying as designed but it's probably a 1 in a million.

     

    Im not saying I think there isn't a place for speed but if a person is going for speed with light arrow set ups they should stay with fixed COC BH so that the head doesn't dissipate the energy in the arrow.

    Lots of guys for the Michelin tires. I guess im on the other end of that. I had one blow out at 17,000 miles and another at 25,000 miles and they tore out my front fenders and bent my bumper. Bought them at Discount new, 70,00 mile warranty. They were less than a year old when they blew. Tread came right off at 70 miles an hour on the freeway. Discount replaced them for free, I put in a claim and Michelin replaced my damaged fenders, HOWEVER, they said they inspected the tires under investigation and found nothing wrong. Thats where I got turned off. any manufacture can have a defect and in most cases it will be in a lot/group. I could have lost control as they were on the front end both times and things could have been worse. I had also pointed out to Discount that the tire that blew at 25,000 had evidence of broken belts. They disagreed and said Michelin would not honor the warranty under for those bad spots. All Michelin had to do was be honest about the defect in those 2 tires. Instead they either flat out lied and didn't do the investigation. Or they did it and still lied about the results. either way, Im done with Michelin tires. BTW, I had them on every truck I ever owned.

    Your a saint! there aren't too many parents I know of that would take on a feat such as head coach with not much knowledge of the sport. IMO you deserve a lot more than a pat on the back, thats tough work.

     

    Yes, you got to give it up for the kids that dont make the cut for varsity. They are just as hard working and help in so many ways to make the kids on varsity that much better. Got to give it up for the parents that give us the support and sit in those darn bleachers for 2 days even when its not their kid wrestling! CactusJack can relate to those benches!

     

    Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I know your gonna miss it. :D Good luck at the sports boosters. Parents aren't gonna want to let you go. :P

    Congrats to you for all of your boys. Kudos for being great parents and being happy when one chooses music over sports. Great job!

    Funny thing, my music son followed us all through high school being my camera man. That is him you can hear yelling at Cole during that match, he became a huge fan of little brother and filmed most of Cole's tournament matches all season long. Seven years between the two and they used to fight like heal every day they had to live together under the same roof. Sure glad the grow up but dang........the baby of the family has the door hitting his rear.....

     

    Jeff, as you know I can relate. Problem is Im not as smart as you to get out. I guess it's ingrained into my blood too deep. I figure I will be going at least another 3 years with the 4 freshman on the bottom. Huge congrats to Cole! Please pass on that I wish him them best up at Virginia beach. Coaching sure has its emotional ups and downs no doubt. it's even worse when it's your own kid. My son blew out his knee just before State his senior year, that was 2012. He was the baby of 4 as well. Happy hunting to you Jeff, you certainly deserve the time to hunt now!

    I apologize to the OP as I kind of got off subject here.

     

    I killed this buck out of a hang on tree stand with 6 sets of climbing sticks of 3 steps each attached to the tree approximately 20 feet off the ground. The tree stand was not mine and had just been put up a couple weeks before the hunt. The only thing i would do different with this stand or any stands for that matter is use chains and turnbuckles to hold it rigid to the trees with no fear of straps failing. I had on a safety harness that I shorten so when I lean out I can feel it holding me back. Just me but it feels like im more apart of the tree that way.

     

    I wear rubber boots to the stand spayed down with a scent killer. Im in the stand and settled 30 minutes or better before daylight. Place your stands in travel corridors so that you can approach them from down wind. I like 20 yards off of a scrap or run where another tree can hide me from where I think a deer will approach from.

     

    Using trees stand can be very successful. I've killed a fair number of eastern whitetails out of them a few elk and even a Coue's buck.
