    Strip Monsters Falling

One auction and one raffle tag.
  2. My real question, when do you normally start hearing bugles? When you hear pre-rut/early calendar bugles are they only early morning or more after dark?? First year hunting bulls. Hunting 16A, low density elk area, but have found some pockets of elk and a shooter or two but i'm still trying to expand my scouting area and add some backup plans in case A and B don't work out. Wondering if I'll be able to hear anything in my scouting before the hunt starts in Sept. I've been out probably 10 times since the draw, and never heard anything. Is there a correlation between velvet drop and bulging? When do the mature bulls start dropping velvet? Thanks all

    Unit 16 A

It really seems like there should be higher deer concentrations than there are, and at the same time I keep finding stuff like this on my hikes and cameras:

    12A Archery Kaibab Deer

Its my favorite hunt. I have hunted it for the past three years, and its been phenomenal every year. Find places on top that no longer have passable roads going through it, hike in, and have fun. I've only seen a couple other guys in three years in my hiking area, and none of them were all the way into the sweet spots of the hunting areas. There are still alot of road hunters like there used to be, but I like that, because it pushes all the bucks to my honey holes even more:) I have an elk hunt this year, so I let you have my tag this year Last year it was the rain forest hunt, raining every day it seemed like for large parts of the day, but don't let that keep you in camp, its only rain(until it hails, that hurts a little bit.) There is no better time to stalk a deer than in the rain!! The deer literally did not appear to be bothered that it was raining, fed right through it.

    Bloodtrail dog available for "rent'

This site says it was outlawed in 2005? http://www.unitedbloodtrackers.org/state-regulations/?state=az And nobody replied to this question a few months ago: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/49862-dogs-for-tracking-deer-and-elk/

    Unit 16 A

I live in the unit and spend alot of time in and around the Hualapais and surrounding deserts, hiking, shedding, archery deer, quail hunting, shooting and now elk scouting. There are bucks there, but they are not concentrated. Most water sources have a resident deer herd that uses them, but that means a handful of dear for a couple square miles in most areas. There is a reason the 16A rifle has been literally one of the worst 2 or three hunters success rate hunts in the ENTIRE STATE for 2 or three years at least. I don't rifle deer hunt anymore, but for most people(according to what I see and the abysmal kill rates), tough tough hunt.

    Salt

This has turned into a good topic debate on and off forum sites in AZ. I take it as you either have to use pure salt OR mineral products made FOR lifestock, not made for attracting wild game. One of the guiding outfits in northern AZ claims that those rules only apply if you are actively "hunting" over it, that just taking trail cam photos isn't subject to this rule because you aren't "taking" game, so they use other attractants, but only for spots they aren't hunting haha.

    13A RIFLE TAG

You can't expect to scout this early, find a bachelor heard, and then head back to that area during the rut. I know some good spots for the archery hunt, per my avatar, but they can be 20 miles away a few months later. They have one thing on their mind on the rifle = the ladies.

    results!

    Not drawn for me. Surprise.
  17. I hunt more back country anyway, but for some reason I was thinking in my head that it was just fire arms that you couldn't get within 1/4 mile of a populated structure. But is it the same rule for a bow? I couldn't find the regs on it. I found it. It looks like you can actually hunt with a bow close to buildings: 17-309 unlawful for a person to 4. Discharge a firearm while taking wildlife within one-fourth mile of an occupied farmhouse or other residence, cabin, lodge or building without permission of the owner or resident.

    ANYONE GET HIT FOR SHEEP

How many people understand the ramifications of Sheep draws having 20% OF TOTAL TAGS being allocated to those with max points, and NOT 20% of EACH HUNTS TAGS??? It is a fact that, because of this, a very few very lucky non-residents that do NOT have max points draw sheep tags every year isn't it?

    Archery mule deer question??

This hunt must not be in AZ if you have a Sep 1 tag already? If the area is really thick and you don't have good vantage points to glass, you are left with only a couple options. Still hunting is very hard to near impossible in thick cedars. Trail cameras and sitting water or salt are probably your best bet. But from what I have experienced, you chances are not very good unless you have most or preferably ALL of the following ingredients: -- a very high deer density in the area, -- recent cam pics of bucks on water(salt) during daylight, -- NO other water available for SEVERAL miles, -- no other hunters driving around the area or hunting the area(this almost always makes good bucks nocturnal drinkers if they were not already), -- a blind or tree stand that has been on the water for a couple of weeks prior to the hunt so they can acclimate to its presence. If you have all of those, give me a call and I'll come watch the show!!!

    Good Sunday with Dad

That looks great, I have a couple dead heads I need to do. What did you do to for your bleaching process? Looks great
  22. Checks the cams early this morning in my elk area.
  23. That is how Utah does it. Guys get calls a week or even days before a hunt supposedly and are told "Someone gave back their tag, you were next in line, do you want it?"
  24. Just what they are calling it alone makes me cringe: "fee-based online club"??? What the heck is the G&F doing proposing something with a description like that? The benefits they discuss have nothing to do with being "online" even. It is just weird. If they really wanted to do something to charge for new privileges, wouldn't you call it a "Dedicated Hunter" or "Platinum License" club or member etc so people like me don't think the department is 100% ridiculous?

    Your Favorite Cow Elk Calls

I've always heard that mouth diaphragm calls are the best, and that is always what I have used, but I don't think me or my family are very good at them. Despite trying out several different calls and companies, I don't have the consistency and control I would like. Plus, when out on a hunt, having the diaphragm in your mouth too long seems to cause the latex to become loosened and the sound to change. I've always heard the "hoochie mama" calls are over used by hunters, and not realistic enough, so I've never given them a shot. I have recently seen a couple AZ videos with some well known guides using the hard plastic, hand held, open-reed type calls that they hang around their necks for their cow calls. What are your thoughts and experience with those types of cow calls?
