Congrats man. Great looking buck.

Judging by the angle of that hillside in the picture, it wasn't a walk in the park to get that bull out if you had to go back uphill. Makes for a tough time dressing it out as well. Congrats on your first bull.

Tuff Hunt so far (22)** Hunt update** with a few pics**
Coues79 replied to olmos1010's topic in Elk Hunting
Man that's a great hunt. With so few tags and pressure they'll get going here pretty quick. I always had a lot more success up closer to the rim with rutting action. Good luck. That's a great fun hunt. -

I could use mid October in NM for it to hold off tilyou should be good. I got the archery tag here, gambling on ma natureI've got the early nov archery for AZ as well. Maybe all us lucky tag holders can have a hard rut here in sept oct and nov. at least for the units I've got tags in! Stars just gotta align and one of those years that's never heard of happening. I know it's selfish. Sorry 😉- 31 replies

For sure don't sleep with this one on! I've got one and it does a great job warming things up quickly. They make one that has double burners that works great too. Just not a sleeping heater.

If you can get into landsman I'd put effort in there. It's been very limited access the past few years in there. Super thick country where you're talking up by the Rez. Difficult glassing.

Awesome! Both are sweet bucks. A drop tine like that doesn't come around too often. Sweet!

Alright alright alright. What unit. Ha! Just kidding. Heck of a buck. Congrats on a DIY stud buck!

Holy crap! That is a rough 24 hours. Wow. Good luck with it all. Hope it works out

That cell tower in nutri should be getting a verizon lease on it pretty soon I've "heard". I think it's cellular one right now.....

I couldn't agree more Lark. Well said.

Access to Santa Teresa Mtns unit 31
Coues79 replied to 04silverado's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Call the Rez. You need a permit to pass through if they even allow you to. A few years ago they stopped access. Not sure if it has changed. You'll be hard pressed to find any access roads other than two designated off of the Klondyke road once you get into klondyke and past. Access in the northern part of unit 31 is very limited. It's a shame that all of that great country can't be accessed anymore. G and F need to work on this -
I sure used to love the meindl brand. Absolutely loved them. I used to get their ibex line but they discontinued what I liked to wear. I had the perfekts and yes, they were very comfortable boots. But, I had issues with the sole coming apart from the leather. Poor quality. I sent them back in and ordered the Alaskan hunters. Decent boot but the rubber does come off of the leather after a while. Once these boots are done in I think I'm going to go with kennetreks. Meindls aren't going to be my hunting boot anymore unfortunately. I really really used to love them.

It'd be good to know before Friday to be able to plan on driving to an office to get one Monday morning. But heck, what about those folks that sent in their apps for a leftover but their app never was opened before the tags come available over the counter? And there are tags available still for units they put in for as per their updated list? Interesting New Mexico does it well with their youth encouragement hunts. A real time online process that shows the amount of tags available with an auto refresher every few seconds. With the game and fish getting the draw process down, I am hopeful they will implement something like this in the future. It'd save a lot of time for those folks in the office and allow everyone an opportunity to not play the guessing game with their mail being delivered on a specific day.
-
Yep. Gonna be hard relying on playing the bonus point game anymore. Interesting that you were able to obtain your results. I've called different offices, been looked up and told nada yet. Been told they cannot see any leftovers results yet. Been told they'll have them finalized on Thursday. Goodness. What does it take for a guy to just find out? Be good to know!

Great to see the best outcome being possible and working out during a difficult time. Prayers sent for you all. Hang in there.

I drew a leftover last year and it actually shows in my portal (last years tag 2014). Seeing that update in the portal would be pretty neat. But, you have always had to call and verify if you were drawn.

They do a lot of damage to the land. There are starting to be quite a few in GMU 27. We don't need these things in the forest. One more thing for elk/deer to contend with on top of the wolf fiasco already in place.
