Yes, its going to be a hot one out there Friday. Early morning glassing and focusing on shady hillsides is gonna be important.

Man that second buck looks like he could be an absolute stud in 2-3 years. I love that look on a mulie

Everyone that wants to put in for antelope and elk just keep in mind that you will be able to apply after the deadline..... So don't put in until after that date! Maybe I can draw my elk tag that way....

That's a gorgeous bull. Looks like big country!

Man what a trout. I'd love to hook into something like that.

I didn't see how U of A was a number 10 team lastnight. I really like wildcat athletics but I don't think they're a top 10 team. Their defense needs to really step it up in being able to tackle in the open field and stop the run game. Way way too much emphasis on trying to strip the ball from backs. USC's yards after contact really hurt U of A. They've gotta get that taken care of. On a positive note, their third string tailback, Baker, really showed his desire to be in the mix of things for their running game. Man that guy runs with a lot of desire; Really fun to watch.

I've got this tripod. Its a good stout setup.

I am hoping the DIY hunters are gonna get some toads down here tomorrow and this upcoming weekend....there's some thumpers out there. Bulls are starting to get going better. Get away from roads and listen.

I definitely think the October hunt is the best one for patterning big bucks. Hotter than heck, but great opportunity for a biggun

I love seeing good DIY hunts come together like this. Congrats!

Noah does great work; great family oriented business he does. Very very clean shop.

When youre as close as you say you are getting, the faintest wind shift will cause your bedded elk to detect you. Especially if you are in a bowl..... The wind will swirl. I don't know why you would want to cow call when you are that close. If a herd bull has a bunch of cows, there's not much that your cow call is going to do except give off your location. We had a couple of guys around us this morning using a cow call and it sounded horrible. There's a big difference in man made calls vs the real thing. You gotta be real good with a call to deceive them. Just IMO

Hopefully it put water down where Roosevelt can benefit from it. Wish we could've gotten it in the gila watershed for San Carlos.

I've seen too many times forecast for amazing amounts of moisture and it not happen.... I hope this time they are RIGHT. We need it.

Waning gibbous to begin the hunt. Waning crescent the 19th.... Gonna get kicking then. No rutting action at all yet where I have been. Oh well.... It will eventually ramp up hard core. Wish I had a tag!

Thanks Amanda for posting the legalities of baiting. Thanks for the reminder on baiting maverick... There's nothing wrong with expressing a concern either. Don't let the naysayers drag you down. I do also hope that you would have reported it to g and f as well as I also feel it our responsibility to do so...

Are 15X's that much of an advantage
Coues79 replied to joeinaz0's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I would much rather have a pair of 10 power swarovski or leica binoculars than a 15 vortex. Clarity and edge to edge quality are much better. For a few hundred more, you can find swaro 15's nowadays with folks selling them cheap. Unbelievable glass as a great price. I've never been impressed with vortex binoculars. Just my opinion. -
I've owned one.... Had to sell it. It was hard to see it go. Anyways, it was a great tent. Get double doors and a window or two if you will be in warm weather. Also consider buying the joints from them and making the frame on your own. Save money in shipping costs. I loved my 12x14!

Can be a difficult hunt depending on weather. If there's snow or heavy rains the roads get real bad real quick. No UTV or ATV allowed. Elk are getting into their normal wintering grounds. Lots of folks out during the hunt. Yes they are difficult to draw and its not a guarantee elk in the freezer.

So, will they switch out old lenses for their new swarovision lenses..... Even if the model is not the most recent? It'd be interesting if they did.

Political Discussions request
Coues79 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I don't think Amanda has done anything wrong with redirecting this particular forum back to where the forum was purposefully intended to be. I for one wouldn't mind another forum that is specified for political discussions outside of the hunting community. That would satisfy the folks that want to discuss politics; a disclaimer on what the forum would be about would be good etc.... However, its her site and she can set it up how she wants. It may be that she doesn't want it here period. -
Although lions do play a big part of the decline, I would say the biggest problem is the loss of access in the northern portion of the unit. The southern portion gets absolutely hammered. Stockton pass always has deer and a lot of hunters. Might want to start there. The road up Mount graham will hold a few deer. Get off the road and glass. North part of mount graham is big and pretty nasty country but holds some deer. Sure wish access could get worked on cause theres a ton of country getting locked up in the northern portion.
