Nice pics, thanks for sharing

This buck is 105 and some change, forget exactly what he scores. Taken on my last December hunt, 13 years ago. Could get a new mount. All bucks are rifle. This buck is 100 and a little change. I forget exactly what he scored. Never scored this buck but estimate him in the low 90's. I need a Booner for the wall with my December tag this year!! Once every 13 years..... It is time.

Let's say a person gets drawn for an early bull tag in a unit that has only 25 permits. Most Early Bull hunts have a ton of applicants (as do all prime hunts) so if there was a 3 year waiting period, there are only going to be 75 fewer people after the 3rd year of the system and each following year that could potentially put in for that unit or hunt. If we were to take the number of all the early bull hunts and discount those who drew for the next 3 years, it is still a very minimal amount of hunters. There is still competition with 1000's of people for a very limited amount of tags. With December whitetail tags being significantly reduced, the same would apply to them, just as mentioned above. Still a minute amount of people being sidelined for a few years. The draw odds do not go up substantially just the satisfaction of some, knowing that the guy that drew last year has no odds of getting the tag again for the next three years. It may be significant enough for elk hunts, if a person draws a bull tag, they are exempt from drawing another bull tag for 3 years. This may help odds a bit more. However, for Antelope and deer it would be difficult to put a dent in the odds. For antelope, there are just too few permits available . I don't think it would be a good idea for recruitment or retention to exempt thousands of people for three years just because they drew a deer tag, as they are all for antlered game

Man I hope this don't jinx me 'cause I have been fairly lucky in the draws and I don't mind the current system but here is my opinion. I think the fairest way personally is to have a percentage set aside for non-residents, whatever that percentage may be. There, non-residents done. Residents have no preference, no bonus points, neither do non-residents, its strictly the luck of the draw. Pull the name out of the hat, its done. If you draw, you draw, if you don't you don't. Isn't this New Mexico's system?

For those that have a fall hunt that might have higher temperatures, cabelas is having a good sale on Kings Pro Hunter camo right now. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&id=0057321

I believe it is usually or predominantly due to the loss or damage to the testicles of the deer. The loss or lack of hormone that is responsible for the shedding of velvet is no longer in the deer, causing it to continually grow antler. If I'm wrong, someone correct me please.

Its been since 1996 for me drawing a December hunt. Finally got one this year. It sure is SWEEEEET isn't it?

They gotta get those 3 weekends in for the hunt. This year, we are lucky and get to add a few days to the December hunt and still have the 3 weekends! Congrats on your tag.

YESSSSSS SIR!!!! December whitetail baby! WOOOOOHOOOOO!!! Been 13 years since I had a December whitetail tag. Can't hardly wait. Hopefully a Booner will show up in the optics then in the scope then at my feet!!

worst draw system in the west!!!
Coues79 replied to crbn4runner's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
With the technology going around today, the other states having what seems as a "results day" that is marked on the calender, one would think that they could implement a better system, one that wouldn't give them such a headache either. I would seriously think that there really has been something happen, given that results are not posted yet. The past however many years results have been posted a week sooner than now. -
This is an awesome thread you posted here! That picture of the Kudu in the scope is a sweet pic. Thanks for posting these up and congratulations.

I would imagine that they are trying to get them out ASAP. Those poor ladies in the draw dept. gotta take calls from hundreds of folks askin' "when are they gonna be out?" I'm sure they would rather us hunters spend our time over the weekend wearing blisters on our fingers so as to not tie up the phone lines like we did for Elk and Antelope results, before next work week.
-
Tomorrow..... Maybe?

Its all a rush, waiting for results, seeing "They're up!!" on this board and then the few days after to see what everyone drew or didn't draw. Its all part of the game. I really do like however, how New Mexico gives you a date. Its not a game, other than having your card hit, but it gives folks a good idea of when and how they will know. I just don't understand how other G&F organizations have the capabilities of knowing exactly when they're released, and our G&F has no clue? In all reality, it may not mean a dang thing to anyone in that office. It is what it is and we can all wait?

The phone lines will be tied up and the web site will be locked tight for at least a week. When the Elk results came out I tried for 3 days to get results and finally had to set my alarm for 2am. This is why I call frequently. If I am one of the first ones to find out, I get to find out early while its still possible without all the busy signals. I don't have to worry about waiting and being absolutely useless for hours and hours pressing silly little buttons on my phone only to hear a busy signal and using language I shouldn't be using....... But actually, a busy signal might sound kinda nice right now

I was thinking the same thing. I have seen a few turtles out in the hills at times and have noticed they reak like no other.

I'm sorry for your loss Kent. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. You will be reunited someday and it will bring undescribable joy to your Heart and Soul. God Bless you. Jeff

Dutch ovens will probably start at around $40 for a smaller one and work up in price from there. I like the ones that have a lid with a lip around the edge. It helps to hold coals when you do a dutch oven and want to add some coals on top. Man some Dutch oven peach cobbler sure sounds good right now.

I always cook whatever I want before the hunt, such as roast, spaghetti, homeade chicken pot pie, beans or whatever you can think of. Then I put it in a vacum sealed package and freeze it. Before I head out, I grab em' out of the freezer, put em' in the ice chest and when I am ready to eat the meal, I boil some water and toss in the bag until its warm. It works really nice. Its a good meal with very little time having to stand over a stove or fire after a long day of hittin' the hills. More time in the sack or sittin' around the campfire. I started doing this a few years ago and I love doing it, makes things easy. Gotta be somewhat careful that the bag doesn't open in the water or else you'll get a nice watered down meal. Double bagging it by putting the vacum sealed bag inside of a ziploc bag works well. This is all nice, but I also have to have a nice fat, juicy ribeye one night too.

In Queen Creek as well. Pretty far south, but maybe see you around!

I wish these flippin' results would hurry the heck up and come out

You know as well as we all do that 90% of the drivers out there are speeding, if only a few MPH over the posted.. And those who aren't are generally the ones causing the delays and backup by slowing traffic down, generally in the lanes they shouldn't be in.. That is a good point you bring up. You are right on the money as well. I hate the flippin' freeways down in the valley.

Cool pictures. The deer look good and healthy, and with the ocotillos as full as they are in the pictures, I can see why. Thanks for posting.
