It still says spring results, however when you get to the results, it does say if you were drawn or not for winter. Goose eggs for me, wife and dad. That sucks

How much longer.... THE POLL!
Coues79 replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Everything was up except for the "You were drawn for". It said something like, "for the mid-winter draw" and then cut-off. It didn't say "You were drawn for" or "You were not drawn for." Definitely toyin' with us right now. -
How much longer.... THE POLL!

Waiting until a Friday to post results would seem irresponsible to do, considering that if the system goes down, it is possible that it would be down for an entire weekend. I don't think they would do that. I bet its a weekday sometime, hopefully soon. -
If you got the money, go with KOWA.
-
Hmmmmmmmm. Very Interesting

I haven't seen anything mentioned about Kowa. I haven't been real big on spotting scopes, but I have looked through a swaro and a kowa and IMO, the kowa had it beat. You save some money with them and get an incredible spotting scope. It was an 88 mm objective. You probably won't get too much support for it, but if you have time, take the time and go compare. I think you might like it http://www.kowascope.com/frontend/proddisp.asp?co=10000375

I have a Bogen/Manfrotto 728 B and really like it. Light weight and sturdy, real smooth head and it let's me stand to glass if I want to as well. http://focuscamera.com/sc/froogle-lead-1.a...p;sid=978959631

Ethics of Finding a Trail Camera

Lark; you're Southern -
I think they usually come out late April or early May. They have them posted online lately, well before they are sent to license dealers though.
-
Just guessing here, but common sense seems to indicate that these hunts would be put in place in the southern half of the state where elk are somewhat rare and Coues deer are somewhat common. -TONY You're right with common sense and I know where elk and deer live in the state . However, there are units with overlap of species and without any specific units shown, you would have to consider the possibility that it could happen. There are bull hunts that start on the days that have been proposed for the coues deer change. Just a concern . I guess we shall see when they come out huh?
-
I don't read anywhere that the Nov. Coues date change would be for limited units. Am I wrong? I probably wouldn't be against a later Nov. Coues hunt. It would be nicer with cooler weather. It would suck for the elk hunts that are occuring though. That could possibly fill the woods pretty heavy with hunters. Maybe an amendment for that would be in order.

This past December I watched a 108" buck stay bedded for almost 2 straight hours. He was bedded in the sunshine for an undetermined time before then too. He got up and walked 5 yards to some shade at about 11:30-12:00 then stayed bedded until about 2. He then got up and fed on some mahogany right by him, and then dropped dead in his tracks when my dad smoked him. Each deer has a different personality and will have different behaviors. A bruiser buck will always have numerous escape routes. Even IF he is still bedded in the same spot when u reach him An older and wiser buck is alive because he has had experience in escaping trouble or near death. Probably been shot at a few times too. This above is one reason big bucks get big.

I was by today and I can say the tripod and head is in good condition. If I hadn't received a nice pod for Christmas, I would have bought it right there.

Whats the dumbest thing you've done?
Coues79 replied to TATAat27's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
When I was 12, I had a shot at a cow elk at 30 yards away. She was moving slowly and I thought I should lead her. I was shooting a .270, not a bow. That's enough said I believe. -
Twelve Days of Christmas: 34A Coues Hunt
Coues79 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Great story Doug . Sorry to hear that you couldn't locate that buck . -
It's tough. I just got off the hunt myself and didn't see a thing. I was in all 3 units, spent 10 days hunting and didn't see anything. I won't do it again.

How to keep eyepiece covers on Swarv 15x56s?
Coues79 replied to Billinsd's topic in Optics and tripods
Theres a pretty good bino harness made by IPI called the Bino Manager. They fit good in them and don't swing out from your chest. It has a flap that covers the top of the glasses real well. I have more issues with the objective covers myself. When I attach them on the objectives, I can't get the glasses to close far enough for me to glass out of. I've tried staggering the rubber but they won't close enough for my close set eyes. I already lost a pair of them because they were't attached to the glasses (only had them two months). I just kept taking them on and off and forgot about them one time. 33 bucks to get new ones will make me have to think of something though -
Pretty pictures

I was out bowhunting today and came across a doe that was acting pretty weird. She was hanging around a game water catchment and had no concerns or worries about humans being around. I was on my quad and came up to the catchment to see her slowly walking off. She was by herself. Coming down from a hill a couple hundred yards away, there were 3 other deer coming to water. They were in no way connected to the same herd. This small group had a buck in it and we put on a hunt, rather waited til' he came in to water. To make it short, we missed and off they went. After the shot, we spent probably 15-20 minutes looking for the arrow and on my way back to the quad, 30 yards away from where we were scouring the place trying to find the arrow, I jumped the doe. She kind of stotted off a few yards and that's when I picked up my glasses and looked at her. When I saw her, she had some serious foam and drool coming out of her mouth. I mean bad. I sat there and watched her slowly make her way over a small rise and I decided to go walk over to where I last saw her and see if I could see her again. When I got to the place she topped over, I found her again, bedded down 30 yards from me. She had no care at all that I was there, (I even hollered at my ol' man to come up there and check her out.) He came up and she then got up and moved off a couple hundred yards and watched her bed down again, still foaming at the mouth and drooling something terrible. It was just a weird situation and it was obvious this doe was sick. She didn't appear to be skinny and frail, but her drooling and lack of concern about humans kinda made me wonder. I was hoping someone on the site may have an idea of what it could have been, if I should contact anyone about it or just forget about it. I have never seen a deer acting this way and some of these symptoms kinda overlap with CWD. She is hangin' real close to that game water, so if its an illness that is contagious, it wouldn't be a good deal. If you have any info. let me know. Thanks
-
I too had been thinking about rabies. I know that some of the symptoms she was showing are symptoms of rabies as well. From what I understand, rabies is highly contagious, but I am unsure of if it could be transmitted via watering out of a game water catchment? It would have to be done through saliva. Can it be done this way or does something have to get tagged by a critter with rabies itself? Anyways, I called the G&F just now and told them what I saw and gave them my name and phone number. The lady told me that they would be in contact with the warden in the unit to let him know what I saw. I really hope that they take it serious, finds the doe and figures out what is wrong with her. With the deer population down the way that it is, if it was possibly something that was contagious, it could do damage quick. BTW, I read a little in Heffelfingers book on diseases and I'm not quite sure what it could be. There are bovine living in the same areas so I wonder if it could be something transmitted from them? Anyways, if anything progresses and I hear back from them, I'll post what I hear. Thanks for the input.

As the crow flies it was about 30 miles from the New Mexico line. I think I might give the game and fish a call tomorrow to see what they have to say.
