    I know I'm a redneck

Builds character. Nothin' wrong with that IMO. I'd rather see that then have them sit in front of video games all day.

    More pics

I ran across three of them all within about a quarter mile of each other. It was sunny and all of them were right by an ant colony. Must have been some good comfortable eating for them.
  4. Here are a few of the many pictures I was able to take over the weekend. It was great to get to see so much wildlife out and about.

    Some SWEET elk picts

I was up there this weekend as well and saw a few great looking bulls too. There appears to be some good growth this year. Nice pics.

    Couple of Questions..

I just purchased a pair of the monarch 10's from Doug at Cameraland. I opted for the 10x56's and I'll tell you what man, they are a great glass. I am very well pleased with them and will use these along side with my swaro's 15x56's that I plan to purchase in the next couple of months. I have also looked through the Brunton's and they just didn't work for me. I felt eye strain as I looked through them, however, some people love em'. You definitely need to check them out side by side. Also, don't hesitate to give Doug a call when you figure out what you want. He will take care of you. I purchased a demo pair and have literally no complaints about the glasses I recieved. They are optically perfect with no scratches and he sent them right out. Very pleased with his service. Good Luck!
  10. Don't like it. I put in for the November hunt because I know that I can hold out on the FIRST weekend and if I feel like taking a smaller buck, still have the opportunity to do that in the SECOND weekend. Most of the hunters out there are only able to hunt on the weekends anyways, not to mention some of the juniors that are out there hunting on this two weekend hunt. I mean really, how long can you justify pulling a kid out of school just to go hunting? Weekends are the opportunity for the majority of hunters to be able to do their hunting. I like the way the hunts are set up now but I don't mind a couple of the late archery elk hunts they have now. I am apposed to adding more late november hunts for elk in other units as well as well as the southern units. I have 3 daughters who all hunt and having two weekends to hunt doesn't bother me at all. One is just fine. I alway's take their entire hunts off from school. Even if they get a deer tag and a elk tag in the same year. I am lucky right now because they are straight A students and that makes it alot easier to take them out hunting. Hunting and being with family plays a HUGE part in how kids turn out once they move out so thats one of the ways I justify taking my kids out of school. I see your point and agree with you about growing up and having the experiences of being out in the field like that. As a teacher however, I have to say that when a student misses a week of school, it sure does put them behind, not to mention all of the in-class learning time that is missed. But, that is after all my opinion. I for one can't justify my kids (soon to be) missing a whole entire week of school due to hunting, and that wouldn't fly with the wife either (it's been a struggle to justify to her that if she's a Cochran, hunting on Sunday is okay .) Hunting is important, and most of the best memories that I can conjure up are of hunting but I just couldn't do that. Hope they keep their grades up to par so you can keep them out in the field. I still hope they don't take the second weekend out either.

    Owl music video

That is a really cool video. For my 8th grade science classes, we just wrapped up a P.O. on beak design, protective coloration and adaptations that organisms have made throughout time. This would have been a really cool video to show to talk about some of the adaptations owls have made over time to be the stealthy predator that they are. I really enjoyed that Amanda. The music was fitting too!! Nice work.

    Please help...

I wouldn't have answered your question either when you keep using that stupid redneck writing. I kinda like the ol' redneck talk. Brings back some good memries from down south in good ol' Alabammy. Oh yeah Lark, I have noticed that post to that thread. Matter of fact, that post is the first thing I look at every day. Just wonderin' if there would ever be an answer. Guess not. I imagine we will get him back some time around the next posting of the draw results. Once everyone is really pissed off again. All things aside, he really does seem like a pretty good ol' boy though. But I get yer' drift.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

firstcoueswas80, I am assuming that you are referring to gr8tfuldougs prices on the binoculars. If you go to his website, you can find that with the swaro's he has posted that they come with the adapter. This can be a little pricey for those dang things. That's a good bargain right there. The leica's from what I can see would have to have an adapter bought. Right there, you are getting pretty close to the original price for the swaro's. Plus the swaro's are a brand new pair. It's interesting that you are contemplating this scenario. I am in the exact same scenario as you. I am trying to determine what to do as well. I have also considered the exact scenario as downthebarrell had mentioned, in purchasing the swaro's and the monarch 10x42's to have around my neck. I like the monarch's really well. The 10x56 Nikon's add the weight pretty good, so I would opt to have the 10x42's, but that's a personal opinion. Very interesting that we have the same issues racking our brains. I can't wait until I have either scenario happen. I've been wanting great glass for quite some time now. It's great to see it in the near future. Good luck with your purchase. I'd test them side by side before I choose.
  16. I know what you mean. I wrote on the same topics as you but I did not get graded quite fairly in my opinion. Especially in high school I only recieved 2 passing papers when I wrote on these topics and my sister (an English major) said that they were B quality college papers. Let me tell you something. When it comes to college classes, pick your professors carefully if you have a choice. At that level, Professors are able to build and choose the curriculum that they want, grade the way they want and try to manipulate you the way they want. They have their thoughts and their opinions and in their classrooms, that's what goes. I personally don't feel its right for them to do, but thats college. Now don't get me wrong, there are many, many great college educators out there. However, there are some that are horrible. There are unfortunately times when they do not grade on a person's capability, but rather, whether or not they hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see. There is not a whole lot you can do about it if that's the case. That's what I hate about English or writing classes. It is so opinionated from instructor to instructor, its ridiculous (theres a lot of libs in that feild too)(No offense if anyone on the site is a conservative English Instructor) . Ask around before you enroll in those courses and find out what the instructors are like. You will benefit in the future.
  17. I didn't get that number out of that article either. It appears that the majority of people from this one particular poll feel that stricter gun control would not have helped in the VA Tech massacre. I think that the majority of people feel this way. Polls are always interesting to look at too, but you hardly ever know who was polled, what city, specific questioning etc. Polls from the media can be pretty decieving. It also makes reference to having more people owning guns. I don't necessarily think that if there are more guns being put into civilian hands, things would be getting any better either. It's a person's own right to decide whether or not they own a gun. We don't need to force it down any ones throat. It just all comes back to "Guns don't kill People..People kill People." So how do we determine who can and cannot own a gun? This is where it's going to get pretty messy in legislation. I think at that time, you will see some pretty slick bill writing starting to take place. It's not an easy process to determine who should be allowed to own a gun. I can tell you right now, that IMO I don't think nutcases like "Cho" should be allowed to purchase a weapon. But, how can we legitimately determine who should be able to have the right to purchase a gun? What would the stipulations be? You know somewhere along the way some law abiding citizen is going to be denied the right to purchase a weapon because of some mistake he/she made, or for going to a counselor for depression many years prior. That will start to infringe on a persons right to own a gun. I don't know how it will all go down but I sure I hope we are all informed and have a say in what happens.

    Sad

The Men who wrote the constitution were inspired and influenced through the Spirit of God. I firmly believe this. I don't think you are going to find that information in any textbook. Here is a piece of info. off of MSN and also the website link. I fear that there will soon be an attempt to do a major reconstruction on our right to keep and bear arms. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18170761/ 'Easy access to high firepower weapons' Authorities also found a Walther .22-caliber handgun in Cho’s possession, according to a search warrant filed in Montgomery County. Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. W. Steven Flaherty said Tuesday afternoon that both guns were purchased legally in Virginia. Because he killed and injured so many victims in a short span of time, some people speculated that Cho used high-capacity magazines containing as many as 33 rounds in each clip. Under the federal assault-weapons ban enacted in 1994, magazines were limited to 10 rounds. But that ban was allowed to expire in 2004. “The key thing that we have seen in all of these school shootings is easy access to high firepower weapons,” said Daniel Vice, an attorney with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. “These killings can’t be done with baseball bats and knives.”

    Sad

You are absolutely right about the attacks on guns. I was watching a report on MSNBC in which a representative from the Brady Campaign was very attimate about having gun control; it will solve problems. They will be out in force and this is a tender time for gun control advocates to take advantage of. It is very scary when things like this happen. Not only for the people who were involved or affected, but also the liberalistic minds that prey on situations like this. Let's point fingers at gun manufacturers, guns are the problem is what they say. The truth of the matter is, Gun Control or not, when someone makes up their mind they are going to do something like this, they will find a way to do it. It's a scary situation that is going on and will continue to go on. There will undoubtedly be more occurences like this one. It will happen. There are some very sick minded people out there that fall into bad situations where unfortunately, they feel like taking innocent lives will help them to feel better about themselves. Hundreds of people are affected first-handed by this mass murder. Innocent women and men taken down. Why do people do this? Why? It is very saddening to me to hear about what is going on in Virginia. I hope and pray the people affected will find some kind of peace in this troubling time. I hope that guns will not fall as the culprit in this situation. There was a sick, sick, sick minded person who took matters way too far. I cannot imagine the trauma that many people will be faced with for the rest of their lives. It's terrible.

    AZGFD Hunt Recommendations

(See how important it is for you to return your post-hunt questionnaire? We can gleen all sorts of cool stuff from that thing.) I wish AZGFD would make this a mandatory thing, even setting up a way to submit the info. online would be good too. We can clearly see that it does help for the management of the game or else you wouldn't be saying that it is a good thing to get them turned in. If you offer all ways of reporting it; mail, online, or phone and you don't get it done, you don't hunt the next year. I think that would be a good thing. IMO.

    My 2006 Summer

The moraines (running lines in the glacier) in that last glacial pic. are amazing. If you were high enough, you could see the mountains that they originated from while observing the different tributaries that all contribute to the moraines. It is very very cool to see aerial photography of them. Nice pics Christian!
