    Just passing through

A friend of mine and I both drew archery elk tags and went to set out cameras about a month prior to season. Within one week on one of our cams four different whitetail bucks passed through the area, however only one stopped for a quick sniff then gone. I was hoping on hearing a few suggestions on here from you guys on what you think stops the deer at your camera. Maybe just time or a preferred salt? Here is one of the deer from the cam.

    Glassing

I am planning on doing some bear hunting this weekend and spending most of my time behind the glass. I am going to be hunting in 6B, however I do not know the first thing about glassing for bears in big steep canyons. Do they prefer the north slopes vs the south facing? what vegetation will I most likely find them in? Alot of it seems to thick do I need to go more south? Any tips helpful hints or even maybe places to check out( via PM) would be very helpful! Thanks to all and to all a great season! P.S. Will be trying to call too have never called a single critter in but you can never count out beginners luck.

    A Couple Questions

Adam If you get bored sitting water, plan on calling about a dozen rugged canyons in a day. Electronic callers are allowed, but I learned to call on hand calls, so I have stuck with what has worked for me. I too have had more bear responses in the latter half of the day, but it is like a 60 to 40 split, so make sure to be out before dawn as well. Be patient and be willing to commit a solid hour or more on a stand if you have fresh sign nearby. I also am looking to go out looking for bears on the 10th and have very little experience. I have been out glassing in the areas where I am told there are bears but when I look out into the canyon it looks like the freakin Grand Canyon. Even if I saw a bear I would have no idea how to harvest it. Am I in too big of an area should I downsize my canyon size?

    Tomorrow??

Sounds like a great time! I have never called deer in during this time of year only in Jan. interesting to know. I feel your pain on the camera I got pictures of me while setting one up but no picures of game or me retrieving cam batteries were 98% and soon as I hit reset bamo started taking pics again I guess well see in a week or so if it still acts up. Game cams can be a real PAIN sometime.

    6A Early Archery Hunt....!

I also have this tag. First ever bulll tag. A body of mine had the tag last year and we stayed up north close to town. Along the major roads you can find really nice bulls just off the road but come archery season its gonna be a frenzy in there. The elk dont really leave if anything more show up getting pushed in from 11m just really sucks when your on one and you have two other hunters callin to him from the roads. The quiet area is great as well but elk tend to shut up a little after season atleast during the day. I have not hunted down south in the cedars yet I have no idea what to expect just gotta check it out I guess.
