New 300 RUM build by Sovereign Rifles
gaps replied to JJ_Gibbs's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Looks like a great build and the stock came out great! I'm going to do the same to the stock on my 300 RUM, would you mind sharing what he charged for the stock? -
Bump for a great pack!

I have a Sitka Bivy 45 that has been in the field less than a week.

Get a Vortex. I have had the Diamondback 4-16, then the Viper PST 6-24x50, Razor HD 5-20x50, and I currently use the Gen II Razor HD 4.5-27x56. Like anything, you get what you pay for. And I have found that for the money, Vortex has had better features than the competition. And a better warranty. I have never had to use the warranty but its nice knowing that if I take a spill or I break it accidentally that it will be fixed free of charge. It gives me piece of mind, especially how expensive optics can be. If your price point only allows for the Viper PST I would recommend the Viper HS LR. It is basically the same scope minus the illuminated reticle but it adds the capped windage turret. If you can afford a little more, I would look for a used Gen I Razor HD 5-20x50. Either way you go I would first try to find one used. You will save some cash and there are some very good used scopes out there. I bought my Razor HD 5-20x50 used and I was very comfortable knowing that if for some reason I bought a broken scope, I could send it in and it would be fixed or replaced. The classifieds on this site or on longrangehunting.com have pretty good deals. Good Luck and let us know what you get!!!

Looking to build a big 33 and have some questions
gaps replied to yotebuster's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I went through this myself a couple of years ago. My vote is for the 300RUM pushing the Berger 230gr Hybrids. My Phoenix Custom Rifles 300RUM has a 28" Kreiger barrel and I am getting 3,050fps with the 230gr Hybrids. A G7 B.C. of .380 and that speed is awesome. I have shot it out to 1,800 yards and I have no regrets about not going with a .338 -
^^^^^^^^This is one of the best purchases I've made!!! This past year we used it with myself and 3 others on our hunt and it worked like a charm. Easily has ranged out to 1800 yards and is rated for 2000 yards.

For the 300 RUM I recommend the Berger 230gr Hybrid. Me and my friends have had great results with them.

Great thread and build!!! Keep us updated when you get your Gen II Razor. I am interested in your opinion about it. I love mine but I'm always interested in hear others' experiences...

A Couple of New Muzzle Brakes

Phoenix Custom Rifles did a Badger Thruster on my custom 300 RUM build and I love it. I can shoot it all day and not be sore. If I were to do it again I think I would have them turn it down to match the contour of the barrel, only because I think it looks better that way. As far as accuracy, this rifle wil shoot one hole if I do my part. -
Not nearly enough. He jumped too high and ran too far with his left should missing. These little boogers are tough...

Exit wound with the 230 @717 yards. It may be hard to tell in the pic but it was the size of my fist. I could literally put my fist in his body. One shot was all it took. Entered just in front of his right shouler and exited on his left...he was quartered towards me.

I'm looking for a left handed action for a friends build. It needs to be a long action, magnum bolt face, and left side bolt. He is open to Rem 700 actions or a custom. Please let me know if you know where he can get one. Thanks!

From what I saw on the shelf yesterday at Bruno's they have at least 7 of the 500 count boxes. And at least 25 of the 100 count boxes. Get em while you can!
-
The prices are the same as what their website shows, $47.03 per 100 and $225.40 for 500. I think if you can find them cheaper somewhere else then go buy them there. My experience with some hard to find bullets is this. If nobody else has them and Bruno's does you may have to pay a few dollars more to get them. For me at the time it was worth the few extra dollars because I had a hunt coming up and I needed them. As far as customer service, I wouldn't say that they a SUPER friendly crew. Friendly, Yes. I will say that they have answered my questions from stocks to powder to bullets to barrels and primers. I have never felt like they didn't want me there or that they didn't have time for me. For me they have treated me well enough to continue to go back, especially if they are the only place that I can find what I need. Heck, yesterday as I was checking out the guy mentioned that he remembered me, and I have only been there about 3 time in the last year....

+1 for the 230gr Berger Hybrids. I'm shooting mine at 3,048 fps out of a 28" Kreiger barrel and they are awesome! Shot my couse this last year at 717 yards and they performed perfectly. For fun after that we were shooting at a cliff face at 1800 yards with no problem. The amount of energy they deliver at extreme distance and the way they buck the wind is really amazing.
