    Leftover luck

Yup. They sit around a table and start opening envelopes. Once all the tags are allocated, leftover process is over. There is no draw involved here.

  8. If its warm and dry, look for water and either catch them at water or on their way to/from. Pray for this scenario!! If its snowing, stay in camp, drink beer. Repeat one beer for ever inch of snow that falls. Lol In all seriousness, try the country around the forest boundary. I've had luck finding them in the canyons within the pinyon junipers. I had the late archery hunt a couple years ago and was in elk during most of my hunt, but just couldn't connect. Good luck.

    Spilled Milk from the Heavens

Beautiful pictures. That night shot is stunning. Born and raised in northern Arizona, of the many things I miss about home, the dark skies is near the top of my list. Instead of a billion glittering stars, I'm drowned in the constant yellow glow of man made light. I can no longer enjoy those dark nights. When I head north to hunt, fish or camp I spend many nights just looking up! Thanks for sharing!

Yet the mainstream media will turn it into a gun discussion. You watch. "......imagine how many would have died IF it was a gun....." Just wait.

    Am I missing something???

I've pointed this out in several threads, but I'll say it again: Simply add an eCheck option to the online process and 100% of online applicant issues are eliminated. Period. End of story.

    Once in a lifetime?

Good post. I think the predation issue is finally heading in the right direction with the night hunting in certain units, 4A, 10...etc, but still have a ways to go. Unfortunately, almost 20 years of drought conditions has completely changed the range conditions. Especially along the I-40 corridor. There is very little cover anymore with grasses only a few inches tall when the fawns drop. Drought, which is normal here in the southwest, is something we can't fix. Fortunately, a few average years is making a difference in the range conditions and some of it is looking better than it has the past 10 years. However, it only take one extreme dry year and we're back to square one. Abundant rain will fix a lot of issues here. But in the southwest, drought is the norm and a few wet years are an anomaly. So, we have to address the things you mentioned. Fences and predators. Fenced right of ways, I-40 for example, presents the major factor in antelope movements. Man made crossings cost money. So what's the answer? I think the predator issue is the easiest to address. But that relies on hunter participation.

    Draw odds

I don't think that is accurate. That just shows how many people actually have bonus points, not necessarily how many actually applied. It's safe to assume everyone didnt apply. No way there was 100% participation. From AZG&F website: There were more than 142,000 applicants for this year’s elk/pronghorn antelope draw for hunts or bonus points, and 26,308 tags were issued. The total number of applications, including those submitted on paper and online, was approximately 103,665.

    4A archery bull

That's a fun hunt as there are a lot of elk throughout that unit. Most hunters will congregate along the 300 road. The crowds will thin out as you head north in the unit. If you're not seeing elk, don't get stuck convincining yourself to stay in that area. Don't be afraid of hunting the lower country towards the north around the forest boundary. Big country, with less people! Good luck.

    Stray Cats

Ugh! This topic gets my BP going! Lol I hate those vermin! At least once a week a pile of feathers appears in my yard. They use my garden as a giant litter box! I'm at wits end. I used a hav-a-heart trap for awhile. Caught 6 of those basstirds! Unfortunately, it appears that for every one I remove, two would show up to replace them! My garden trail cam is full of cats. One even has a collar with a cute bow and bells. Clearly someone's house cat. I sure wish my neighbors would keep their cats inside.

    which bino

I've been shopping for new glass myself. Finally in a position to stop chasing great glass. I know you're looking at Swarovski, but if you get a chance to check a few out and decide on the 10x42, take a look at the new Zeiss Victory HT. Un-freaking-believable binocular!!! Color, sharpness, brightness, all exceeding the top scales. Large sweet spot. Smooth focus wheel. Ergonomically it fit great in my hand. Balance was excellent. Man, it was a pleasure looking through this. This will be my newest 10x's this summer. Just a little more overtime and I'll be there. At $2250 it's not cheap. I'm certain it will be my last pair of 10x's. Anyways, just another option to confuse you.

Can you believe this!!! (B of A error)

I agree. However, the paper option has a few minefields as well. The data entry clerk might transpose a number or two. Rare, but I'm sure it's happened. I like the online option as it gives me total control in the data entry. If I screw up, I screw up. However, if a bank gets "trigger happy" and deems 3 charges as fraud....you're screwed. So here's a solution: Continue the online process, but add the option to pay with an electronic check. Thousands of businesses use this every day. I pay alot of bills this way. Its fool-proof. Enter the Routing/Transit number and your account number. Funds are withdrawn immediately from your checking account. It's the same as writing and sending a paper check. Only faster. Now a person has total control of ALL the data and funds. As long as there is a balance in your checking account at the time you complete your application, there is ZERO chance of error. AZG&F has the money, your app is complete and accurate since its done online and you don't have to worry about getting a hit on a CC that may or may not deem the charge as fraudulent. There is no one entering numbers ... It is all digital OCR scans and G&F has a copy of every app... Try to say you made no mistake and they will send you a PDF showing the actual copy of your application and you will see for yourself as we did when one person did not use SS # but put the hunters ID. OCR now days is over 99% accurate and if the PDF comes up showing no error and that an error happened on G&F side they will remedy it. I didnt know that. Good info. Human error can still throw a curve ball. Assuming you dont live near a regional office and rely on the mailing industry.....what if the Post Office, FedEx or UPS loses your app? Anyways...I still think adding an eCheck option would enhance the current online process immensely. Same as a paper check...only better!

    draw results?

On my commute home this afternoon, dreaming of elk and seeing no CC hit, I had an interesting thought. Of all the successful credit card charges so far, how many applied during the "2 day deadline extension" window?

This is always exciting.....and depressing at the same time! Lol. No charge for me! Oh well.....

Completely uncalled for. We all look forward to this year after year. If it bothers you so much, don't access these threads. Simple.
