    #12...

Haha....way to stoke the flames with a picture that isn't even from the area. This death count reminds me of the mainstream media during the Bush years. Every evening the news would open up with a death count of an American soldier. http://gothunts.com/mountain-lion-vs-bighorn-sheep-amazing-photos/

    .22 LR where to buy?

Back in the day, I remember my dad taking me to Yellow Front and paying like .79 cents for a box of 22lr! Don't remember how many rounds, but remember riding in the back seat of our old '72 Mercury Marquis, admiring the shiny new bullets in that plastic box with the sliding lid!

2014 Elk and Antelope Draw Odds

Where is it dry?I live in Flagstaff take my dogs out every day, mud and patches of snow all over we have received 29 inches so far in flag but it isn't normalfor this time of year if i had a lot of points I would be wishing for a antelope tag. A few patches of snow and some mud puddles isn't a true indicative of the dry conditions throughout Arizona. This is a tough winter so far regarding moisture for most of the state. Flagstaff is about to break the all time record for longest streak in winter without any precipitation. Record is 39 consecutive days, occurring in 1917. They are currently at 33 days.....with the next 7-10 day forecast with no precipitation. Fire danger is already in the moderate to high range for most of Arizona. With the exception of the Kaibab, 100hr fuel moisture readings are at or lower than 20% for most of the state. Anything lower than 30% is considered cured and/or dead fuel. This is a record breaking winter dry spell. Not even in 2002, considered the driest year in decades, have we see a winter dry spell like this. We need some serious Pacific storms in the next several weeks. Otherwise, going to be a bad fire season. Not sure how it will affect antler growth. But it can't be good.

    Ask the expert-

Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address, you turn down the volume on the radio?

    Another dry winter

Agreed. Arizona and specifically the southwest US, is always in a perpetual drought. It's the norm here. But it's nice to have a couple wet winters or a good monsoon to break up the long, dry periods.

    Another dry winter

National Weather Service issued its current water supply outlook. Nothing surprising really. Ominous part of the report: LONG RANGE WEATHER FOR FEBRUARY...MARCH...APRIL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR ALL OF ARIZONA BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR ALL OF ARIZONA https://nwschat.weather.gov/p.php?pid=201401081623-KPSR-FGUS75-ESFPSR

  17. Total closure is 30 acres. Less than a Fry's shopping center. I have no issues with rehabilitating desert habitat destroyed by OHV users. http://azgfd.net/artman/publish/NewsMedia/OHV_users_may_comment_on_Tonto_National_Forest_proposal.shtml ------------------- (MESA, Ariz.)Tonto National Forest officials are seeking public comment on a proposal to rehabilitate and make improvements to areas of the Mesa Ranger District that are primarily used for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) recreation. Approximately 30 acres of land that has been highly impacted by OHV use will be regenerated by planting cactus and other native plants to restore these areas to a natural state. Approximately 10 miles of pipe rail fencing or boulders would be used. The proposed project is located along four heavily used forest roads on the Mesa Ranger District, Tonto National Forest, in Maricopa and Pinal counties. Public comments are being accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. Details of the proposed action can be found on the Tonto National Forest website: www.fs.fed.us/nepa/nepa_project_exp.php?project=42089. For more information, call the Mesa Ranger District at 480-610-3300.

    2014 Elk regs

Look at the regulations. Both the Winslow-Holbrook and Rincon basin seasons are year round.

    2014 Elk regs

In all fairness, those have been 365 day hunts since inception several years ago. Anyone following the OTC hunts are well aware of the dates. Sorry but you are wrong. The two hunts that started on Jan 1st are not open 365 days. They are only for 92 days. They close on. March 31st. If you had been following the OTC hunts you would know this. The legal wildlife changes, but that OTC hunt runs the entire year. From any elk, Jan 1-March 31, then picks up again on April 1 -July 31 for bull, then Aug 1 thru the end of the year for any elk. There is no break in the season, only any elk to bull back to any elk.

Anyone buy a deer tag today?

This isn't surprising. During the draw, thousands of hunters wait till the last day and last hour. For some reason, as a group, hunters tend to be the biggest procrastinators. One could write his/her college thesis entirely on this phenomenon.
