I saw a bunch on my jave hunt last week. Over in the SRER follow the telephone line from Santa Rita Rd (preferably a 4x4) and head south following the lines to whit house canyon rd. you can probably set up a tree stand on one of the telephone poles over a watering hole. Tough area to hunt because of the flatness but I spooked a few and saw a couple looking back at me from a distance in a two day hunt. I usually hunt mule deer in 22 and 23 but am seriously considering a 34a tag.

Is it fairly difficult to obtain a leftover black bear tag. I was planning on another hunt out of state but looks like plans are changing and I didn't apply for the spring bear draw? How bout a OTC tag, are they even worth it? Thx

Cw, did you harvest down in S. Az or further north, i.e. Sitegreaves natl forest.

Is it hot? Or are you the rightful owner?

.........still had a great hunt with my dad and that's what it's all about. My dad is old school (glassing is cheating w javelinas) so I'm was the only one w binocs. No pig sightings either. I saw a bunch of Deer (maybe 10-12) in two days, mostly mule but one in particular I think was a 'Coues' as it was a smaller in stature buck and unlike any deer I've seen. Almost like a smaller whitetail say 100 lbs and that's being generous. I snapped a picture as he looked at me but iPhone pics aren't the best in the distance. I think me not knowing the unit had something to do with or the piggies picking up my dads constant fart echoes and scent. Anyway, on to the next hunt for me and that is Black bear. Countdown begins today! Vegetarian is short for bad hunter

I took my vortex Viper HDs out for the first time and wow to say the least. Best bang for the buck for sure. I highly recommend. I saw what i believe to be my first Coues ever however I was jave hunting. The reason I think it was a Coues was because the buck had a decent 3x3 rack and maybe 100 pounds. Can someone confirm that I did see what was in fact a Coues. Highly recommend viper hds

Same here in 34a, lots of deer and a couple yotes but no pigs and glassed what felt like all day. Going out again at 4am to set up a ground blind in one of the washes. Hopefully different approach pays off. -
Awesome! Good job

Great job. I'm eager to start. I go Monday evening down to tucson and try out my new Vortex viper HDs I just picked up. My hunt starts tues am unless the hunting gods bestow upon me a javee I cannot resist Monday at dusk. I cannot stop thinking about it. -
Hey guys, I've been drawn for 34a and I've put in several trips from Phoenix to scout different areas in the unit the last several weeks and I see everything but what I'm looking for, Mulies, Coues, border jumpers, etc but can't find the piggies. Can anyone help? I'm going with my Dad and his vision is not the best so the glassing falls on me. Any help would be appreciated. Thx I will be there feb. 23- 25 2013

Just saw a 12-15 pack herd over on the east side of Bartlett lake 2weeks ago. Good luck. Where u hunting. I know 22 pretty well.

Once again guys thank you for your help. Ill keep everyone posted. Anyone else jave hunting next week in my unit?
-
Thanks for all the help guys. Good info on here. Truth is I am not familiar with the unit. I've always tagged out in 22, 23 and took one in 37B last year. I've always seen a lot of pigs while glassing and I'm definitely not an amateur. Although this unit is humbling me to say the least. I see tracks, chomped on prickly pear, old droppings and hours upon hours of glassing and no luck. SMITTY, you and someone else put me on to the same area. Is the area your talking about near madera canyon?

Thx bud

Congrats, since your tagged out can you point me in the right direction in 34a. Thx.

Best place to hunt in Unit 22 or 23? Give suggestions.
Rifle2Bow posted a topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
My dad and I have been going hunting for as long as I can remember, TX, NM, CO. This is our first time with a bow and the first time in AZ and I keep reading that 22 and 23 are some of the better places. We are thirsting for some deer and as soon as we found out about over the counter archery starting this week we were really excited (remember we're rifle hunters) . Please give me some feedback as I will probably go out this weekend and sight with a return trip the following weekend with my dad. -
What roads would you recommend or refrain from?
