Sitka Flash 32 day pack
AZP&Y replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Mike, I found this: http://schnees.commercev3.com/downloads/Flash32.html - thought it might be helpful. I too am in the market for a new pack... I'd be interested to see who has used the Sitka out in the field. The 3200 cubic (or 3500 as they list) seems just about right for a 2 day bivy hunt. AzP&Y Doug -
About 6 years ago I went to a 2hr Turkey seminar. I had never hunted Turkey and lucky for me Marvin was speaking. His passion for turkey hunting was incredible. He sold me a cassette tape that is one of 2 that I keep in my truck. " Understanding the spring turkey season" . I've listened to it over and over and over... It helped me get a shot at big Spring Tom this season, even though I got mad clucker disease and missed. Marvin- you've helped lots of folks become better turkey hunters and from the sounds of the post here some better people in the world as well. For this I thank you... AzP&Y Doug

Az1Cam, I have been using the THermarest Prolite for about 2 years. It weighs 1lb and packs down to the size of a Naglene Bottle ( or a hair bigger). R Value =2.2 - Prolite Specs: It's super lightweight but, it is not the most durable on the market. It can handle the pines more than the desert terrain for sure. I always camp with a ground cloth under my Big Agnes tent so far after about 100 miles of trail it's holding up. If I were to do it again, I'd probably buy the Thermarest -Toughskin. Read on - more on that one here. It's designed for more desert camping. Nothing worse than a punctured pad , well maybe a wet sleeping bag. http://www.trailspace.com/gear/therm-a-rest/toughskin/ Happy Trails! AzP&Y

Scott, I assume you are doing pack in style hunt? Bears have never been a problem for me over the hundreds of miles that I've packed in Az. I do take a few precautions and generally pack my food in FREEZER grade zip-lock bags. If I'm using a mtn. house or freeze dried food , I take it from the original container and seperate that into 2 portions (both in freezer zip locks). If you have perishables and are near your vehicle then food & smell won't be much of an issue if you store it in a dry box. If you are going to want a secure storage method, I would suggest the Counter Assault Bear Keg - found at REI. It weighs 3lb 10oz and holds about 700 cubic. I've never been a fan of hanging my food in trees... I've been to Alaska a dozen times and that is a whole different ball game and would mandate the Bear Keg, but Arizona black bears for the most part tend to be more weary- although there is that bruin that always seems to hold his ground. There are really 2 goals when camping/packing in bear country: 1)We need to keep the wilderness natural for all of us to enjoy. 2)Keep human food from the animal population and let them forage for their natural foods Also, I never have used bear spray- but tend to choose something a little more effective like a 30/06 Best of luck on your hunt and have fun! Shaft, Here is a bit of info: http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...l=monarch+12x56 http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...l=monarch+12x56 I have a pair and am very pleased. They are not Swaros or Zeiss, but for the money perform well. They also crashed off my Velbon Sherpa tripod and were fixed in 17 days back in my hands due to the no fault warranty. $20.00 bucks was all it cost to fix them. Glass on! AzP&Y

Jason, You are right - Az is not the midwest. Not even close. You're on the right path. I hope you say when you're looking - you are using a tripod and the highest/clearest power binocs you can afford. It's the norm for the grey ghost. Here is a topic from days past- Coosefan put some real nice graphics on there. Check it out... http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...5&hl=slopes Also use the CWT search engine and put in there 'slopes'. That should give you more than an evenings worth of reading 34A is a solid unit with some quality coues bucks!- Good Luck! AzP&Y

It was time to go check the cams. It had been since late June and I wanted to leave them alone for a while. As, I worked my way down to the bottom of the canyon, I was enjoying one of the first descent mornings in a while. But after a cup of Nuge juice- I saw movement along an old 2 tracker! BUZZ TAIL! Ok- Nuge juice is really kicking in NOW! He ratttled and moved off under some desert shrubs. Here are a few pics of him- (he's in the center of the shrub) and also some off the cams- Nice Mtn Lion & The Usual Suspects: AZP&Y
