1936 Resident General Hunting License, Arizona.w/Stubs
AZP&Y posted a topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I saw this on Ebay for sale and it made me think of what it was like 70 years ago.. 4 Turkey tags on one license and 2 deer tags....Wow - The GLORY DAYS! Only 2.50 cents for the license 70 years ago... Doug AzP&Y -
36 b seems to be worse. It's a choice for them once they cross over which direction to head and which mountain range to cross... The National Guard has arrived and it's going to look like the DMZ down there pretty soon. Let's hope the deer don't notice. Good luck with your hunt and as others have said be aware of your surroundings and comfort in numbers. I won't show you another picture of garbage because you'll see plenty of that, but check out the Altar Valley along the Mexico US border and this picture one fine January evening. Doug AzP&Y

Hope that you win it bill, when it was from the year you were born , I thought I hope you get it. My question is how to do you affix that small square, which appears the size of a postage stamp to the deer? or even a turkey? Pretty funny when you think about it One goes back to game and fish and one on the animal... Might be a good thread to start - Arizona Vintage Hunting Memorabilia? - Just a thought! - I'd like to see some pictures of the old metal tags and such.. Good luck! AzP&Y Doug -

Hi Jim, It's $9.99 with about 5 and 1/2 days to go on the auction. No one has bid as of Saturday afternoon..... I've sent you a PM with the Ebay attached link so you can take a look. Pretty neat piece of Arizona History, especially since it appears to be in very good shape considering it's 70 years old. Hope you win it if you decide to bid on it. In case the link doesn't open you can go to ebay and type "Hunting Arizona" in the search and pull it up that way. Pretty Cool Mr. Quimby, boy how things have changed.... Good Luck! Doug AzP&Y -

(i hope)_ I'll let you know how the site works out ! Doug AzP&Y -

Thanks for the replies everyone. Product I had never seen before or considered (halo technology). I'm going with the Montec ME (lighted pin site). Going with the interpretation presented by Dave (can I get your phone number ) just in case AzGame and Fish arrests me -Just kiddin' Lucky for me I'm in the record book, without the aid of a lighted site, so hey it's all good (still have to call Pope and Young) to find out what their take is on it. Good news is the site has been ordered, bad news it's on backorder. Went to the website and fact is that production can't meet demand. Should be at least 30 days before it comes. Just in time for summer deer and Pre elk practice. Appreciated the feedback. AzP&Y Doug -
Stan - STOP please , I can't take it anymore It's over 100 today.. what I wouldn't give to be back up in the last frontier. To step off the aircraft and wear a pair of jeans and heavy sweatshirt. Super nice pics, they did the trick. I've been up there 11 different times and always DIE to return~! America West flys non-stop from Phoenix to Anchorage, every day now making it even easier for the average ZONIE to get up there. Have you seen the latest slogan on billboards in the western United States they say " B4UDIE" on an Alaskan License plate. Pretty clever. If the Sept Archery Tag doesn't come through, guess where I'll be? You got it chasin silvers in Kodiak! RR - You're on the for hunt of a lifetime, although I've been to Kodiak , I've never hunter the cousin Suitcase bucks, but they are there in numbers.. Here's a trip from 2003 - Floatplane- Flyfishing and Deep Sea charter out of Homer! We caught lots of HALIBUT and even a 5foot Salmon Shark ( a kin to the great white) , which is pretty rare for those parts. Take care and again Thanks for Sharin!

AzG&F reports low compliance reporting Archery deer harvest
AZP&Y posted a topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Directly From Arizona Game and Fish ? Archery deer hunters are still required to report their harvest; compliance for this requirement last year was low. One area of ongoing concern, Ordway said, is the lack of reporting this past year by archery deer hunters. He explained that as of last year, successful archery deer hunters were required to contact the Game and Fish Department by person or via phone within 10 days of harvesting a deer. Unfortunately, department analysis indicates that only 25 to 30 percent of the successful archers complied with the new requirement last year. The archery report-in process was put in place to gather data on archery harvest rather than going to a full draw system for archery. It appears that we?re giving AzG&F ammunition & the thought of an Archery draw for deer in the future? I don?t think it?s too much to ask to contact them if that?s what they are asking. { Bear and Mountain Lion hunters do this anyway}? Just think if you bowhunt, you?re set for 2006/2007 Coues hunt in the Rut- What does 2008 and beyond hold? http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/highlights/highlights_0604.html#4 AzP&Y Doug -
2006 Archery Sights- Which one is your favorite?
AZP&Y replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Keith, Good catch. The way I read it in the AZ regs 2006/2007, it appears NOT to be legal... "Hunters cannot use lighted sight pins or other artificial light sources to extend legal shooting hours" Anyone have a problem with game warden/AZG&F regarding lighted sight pins? Take Wildlife During Closed Season, After Legal Hours or With Aid of Artificial Light (A.R.S. 17-309 A 11 and 17-301 A) Pages 54 and 53 Wildlife may only be taken during times prescribed by the Commission and closed season shall be in effect unless opened by Commission Order. Pay particular attention to 1/2 day dove seasons and review the Commission orders related to the species you are pursuing before leaving home. Use of spotlights to locate game is illegal if you have any weapons in your vehicle. If fear of theft is a concern, you should disable your firearm or bow and make it obvious that it is incapable of firing. Examples are leaving all ammunition, arrows and/or barrels or bolts in camp. Hunters cannot use lighted sight pins or other artificial light sources to extend legal shooting hours.[color=#FF0000] -

Hey Jim- Great idea! Here's my 2004 Archery spot and stalk Pope and Young Bull- First Kill with a bow and will never forget the experience. Got him on the 10th day of my hunt (Sunday) morning. Took all day to get him out. Went straight from the field to work at 7am. Still had blood under my fingernails at work- Monday morning. Euphoric day at the office AzP&Y Doug -

Here's the way it reads on Page 54 - 2005-2006 Regs Section: R 12-4-107 - Bonus Point System K. The following provisions apply to the loyalty bonus point progam: 1.The department shall award a loyalty bonus point if an applicant applies for a hunt-permit tag for a specific genus consecutively for a five-year period, and purchases a hunting or combo license for each of the 5 consecutive years. 2.An applicant retains a loyalty bonus point once accrued as long as the applicant applies annually for a hunt permit-tag for the genus for which the loyalty bonus was accrued. 3.IF an applicant who has accrued a loyalty bonus point fails to apply in any calendar year for a hunt-permit tag for the genus for which the loyalty bonus point was accrued, the applicant's loyalty bonus point for that genus is forfeited. 4.For the purpose of the loyalty bonus point program, year one of the calculation of consecutive years is 2001, and the department shall award a loyalty bonus point on or after the effective date of this section. 5. A loyalty bonus point is accrued in addition to all other bonus points. - I believe that you're ok - but still "open" to some interpretation. AzP&Y Doug

Peloncillo - I agree with what you're saying. As a life long Arizona resident, I believed things were going to be improved and that AZG&F would listen to the survey, public input and weigh that instead of dismissing the survey. Both Keith and Dave have opened my eyes as to what is really happening. No more letters - a personal appearance will be required to 1) gain a true understanding of the objectives and 2) Offer a face with the opinion (hopefully hundreds of faces). I can smell the dead deer carcass beginning to rot in the hot summer air and the coyote beginning to press his nose high in the air to gain its wiff.... and it smells of an Archery Draw for deer. The department has hinted of it's stench.... The result will not be the same as the reduction in December Coues tags, but a removal of the predator.... Cleanly and Justly. As you know the PREDATOR is not the king of the desert... AzP&Y Doug

Finally took 5 days to complete another section of the Arizona trail in Northern Arizona last week. A fantastic time to be in the high country of Arizona! This section of trail starts just past the junction at Happy Jack on State Route 87 and ends up just south of Mormon Lake. The first night we camped at the trail head and were awoken in the morning by the cackling of Merriams. Then off trekking for the next 4 days , running into almost 50 elk. The trail runs through the heart of 5 B south. NO other encounters with another human being in the 5 days and the cell phone did not work the entire time. Coyotes yuckin it up at sunset! Here are a few pictures of the trip... Go now to the forest as I fear it's early closure in the extremely dry winter of 2006. http://www.aztrail.org/ http://www.aztrail.org/passages/pass_29.html AzP&Y Doug

AzG&F reports low compliance reporting Archery deer harvest

Ok - Now we all saw this in the 2006-2007 Hunt Regs!!! Spread the word - it's the real deal- ! AzP&Y Doug -
Yes, Amanda ? I?ve done sections 1, 27, 28 and 29 totaling about 90-100 miles of the trail , I?m one eighth of the way done! Section #1-Huachucas (mexico border) to Parker Canyon Lake Section 27 ? Pine to the Mogillon Rim Section 28- Mogillon Rim to Blue Ridge Section 29- Highway 87 to just south of Mormon Lake. Each one is very diverse and has offered it?s own unique challenges. I?ve seen an abundance of wildlife on every section and it goes through some incredible echo systems and climate zones. It?s a great way to explore Arizona and something that is free, after you buy all of the gear. Another great feature of the trail is that you can download it into the GPS and it will tell you when you are off course, but most sections are pretty well marked. A few more pictures from the trail! Flagstaff 4398 ? I?ll take you up on that offer! AzP&Y
