    Reservation Lake May 2012

The timing could not have been more perfect. Beautiful turkey weather and gobbles around. Although I didn't get the job done (missed a big one) LOL . I ALWAYS take the float tube and decided to hit one of the most beautiful lakes in the state; Reservation lake. About the cost of movie, $9.00 and you get a back drop of Mt. Baldy and the place almost entirely to ourselves. The day started out slow and I hooked a nice rainbow. My buddy hooked a smaller brownie. Then after a few hours I took a nap in the truck and awoke refreshed. I decided to kick over to a fantastic point, jutting from the shoreline. I just couldn't get my retrieve right. Then I let the fly sink. The now famous Peacock Lady - yielded this 17" brown. The final car had left the lake and we had the place ALL to ourselves. The sun slowly sunk behind the mountain backdrop and turned to glass. Just one more cast.... AzP&Y

    June '12 Australia buffalo hunt

Great hunt and love the abo art. You guys have lots of smiles and that is special to share memories of a lifetime with close friends. I like what you did with the skull and painting. It's been 13 years since ive been to Oz, I always say I'm going to return . This was a great reminder. Thanks for sharing ... Doug
  6. I haven't posted any cam pics in quite a while, but couldn't resist this one with August coming up real fast! I salute all you guys with the quality of pics that have improved this website over the years. I remember reading lots of stories from the long time members and their 35mm trail camera's and humping into the woods miles to go get the film developed, later to find only a few "keepers".... Trail cameras can be a hazzard to coues addicts! Best of luck on the Archery hunts! The big ones do roam AZ> PS- This is NOT big Sweets LOL AzP&Y
  7. Eagle Eye- It is not from this year. But it brings up a good point lots of growth and tine length to be had between now and August. AzP&Y

  9. Nice review and sticks. I used to use the Leki's but stitched to MSR poles, they fit my hands better. I'll have to look into these. Nice and compact. That i like. Once you start pushing lots of miles with poles, it's hard not to have them around Az

    elk setup opinions

I say leave well enough alone. Leave the set-up as is. Work on trying to get between 30-40 yards or closer. I blew my muzzy 3 blade 100 grain through my P & Y Bull at 21 yards. He went 60 yards. Both lungs were shredded. With your setup and shooting regularly , I'm sure you will be well prepared to hunt the bugling beast! If you get 10 yards or under, that's fantastic. It's a true statement that most don't practice at such a close range, But more than likely the elk will be 20 + yards and you will already be at full draw. Best of luck and practice some calling (i say that sparingly) so when the time comes you are comfortable calling and shooting... AzP&Y

    Bear Attack E. of Payson

It says she's ok PHOENIX — An Arizona woman was injured this morning when a bear ripped a hole in the tent where she, her husband and their dog had been sleeping at Ponderosa Campground in Tonto National Forest, just off Highway 260 about 10 miles east of Payson. The attack occurred around 4:30 a.m. After tearing open the tent, the bear reportedly stuck its head in and clawed at the 74-year-old woman, leaving her with bruises and a laceration on her scalp. She was treated at Payson Regional Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries and released. The woman’s husband and dog were not hurt. A large adult bear had recently been seen hanging around the campsite dumpsters. A wildlife manager with Arizona Game and Fish Department visited Ponderosa Campground yesterday looking for the bear, but it was not found. A culvert-style trap was set. The wildlife manager talked to the campground host about precautions, and all campers were informed of the bear threat. The bear returned to the campground sometime during the night. The campground host chased the bear, which retreated. It returned a short time later and attacked the campers in their tent. Personnel from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services are on scene and working with Game and Fish officers, using dogs to track the bear from the scene of the attack. “Public safety is our first priority,” said Jim Paxon, information chief with Arizona Game and Fish Department. “This bear poses a threat to public safety and therefore needs to be lethally removed.” The Department will conduct a forensic necropsy to confirm that the captured bear is the one responsible for the attack. Disease testing, including rabies, will also be conducted by an outside laboratory. Officials have evacuated campers and closed Ponderosa Campground. Lower Tonto Creek/Bear Flat/Forest Road 405A have also been closed to entry. An official closure will be put into effect by the Forest Service until the bear danger lessens. “The bear was probably looking for food, which is scarce this summer because of drought,” Paxon said. “These campers secured their food in the cab of their truck, and there was no food in the tent. While the campers were with the campground host and medical personnel, the bear came back to the tent a second time, ripped another hole in it, and then went after a pillow that had blood on it from the woman’s wounds.” Bears are very active during the summer, Paxon added. It’s important to stay alert. Bears are attracted to places like dumpsters, trash bins and campsites. Whether folks live here or are just visiting, they need to remember this is bear country. Never leave food out, and never take food into a tent.” Bear attacks on humans are rare. There have only been seven documented cases of bear attacks in Arizona since 1990, including this one. For more information on what to do or not do in bear country, especially when camping, visit http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/urban_bear.shtml.
