There is good trail from the Az access: http://www.aztrail.org/passages/pass_23.html The willow fire in 2004 did a number on the wilderness, look for green up areas. Go prepared as you may not see another person out there. Great Az backccountry if you ask me with some nice deer. You will have solitude AzP&Y

Yote, I'm not against kids hunting, start them young! Teach them right! Why have statutes, rules, regulations if they aren't enforceable? Am I saying, write a ticket to a kid for a bow that's at 29lb draw? Heck no! I'm saying create a minimum that is good for all species if that is what is in the best interest of ALL game that we hunt. If it is 30 for javelina then so be it. 40 for elk. What used to be 50 for buffalo is now 40? Donnie hit it on the head! Also, these comparisons of big game species vs. one another or bullet calibers vs. arrows (regardless of draw) seems to cloud what really is at stake here. A good clean kill with archery equipment. AZ G & F needs to create some real data. Let's start collecting this information so informed decisons can be made for the future of Arizona's Big game. AzP&Y

My question is who is going to enforce this? G & F with a mobile draw weight tool? Can you picture a smaller/jr hunter over a snorting, bugling elk with a bow that has a draw weight of 30 lbs ??? Ooops , I mean 29... Wow! Ok the shot is made and you're tracking...That's gonna get real interesting. Ok, put another one in him, then another , then another (empty quiver)... I think they need to rethink this and based on species makes the most sense. And as all archers know it's "shot placement" , "shot placement" "shot placement"... AzP&Y

The Javelina hunt is always a special hunt. As you have probably read from other posts there are some DIE-HARD javy hunters on this website and throughout the great state of Arizona. Prior to my hunt this weekend I read some of the these emotional posts of father-son hunts, folks that are slowing down (in age) and health issues as well. My mindset was to enjoy the time in the hills with friends. It was that simple. I departed for the incredible pig experience at 4am to some Ted Nugent - Hunt Music- Sunrize Narrated: I won't post the whole song, but here's how the first part of it goes: I say how can it be that man owns the land, can we possess the sky, the wind, the call of the seasons ? Man does not own the earth, but rather the earth owns man, we’re merely caretakers of the wild for our children. We must show reverence for nature, the ground we share, and the spirit of the wild.We must respect each new sunrize.sunrize.sunrize... I met Clay and his Dad and we headed out before first light. By 9am we were glassing and spotted a bruiser 4x4 Muley pushing a doe. Then just below that, "movement" a small group of pigs and before I knew it , I was 42 then 30 yards watching them feed. With Clay there he ranged them "30 yards he whispered" and I let one fly. "THWACK" ! I hit the boar good. Still had to walk up on him and finish him off. 2012 starting out wonderfully with friends... A BIG Thanks to Clay and Bill - My hats off to you for allowing me to tag along Enjoy each new Sunrize and best of luck to all you bow, rifle, handgun and muzzeloader PIG hunters! AzP&Y Doug

AZP&Y replied to MAVinWA's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Above 7000 ft this week had snow in those units. I know you are from the north, but be prepared for winter conditions. 4x4, chains shovels etc. Looks like you use lone wolf tree stand? I have the same, works great on az pines. Good luck and should be good deer movement and rut activity when you are here. Look for scrapes.... AZP&Y -
Antlerdog always has Awesome coues sheds! Send him a Pm AZP&Y

In 2008 I killed a pig with my bow. Turns out it was big enough to be entered into the Bowhunting in Arizona records books as a Bi-ennail (award every 2 years) winner! He is like top 30 of all time entered into the books. I'm no trophy hunter, but I'm really proud of that pig because I busted my tail for 3 days in freezing drizzle and got him on the last day, last hour of the hunt. They are extremely tough critters and I have the most respect for such a fine game animal and it's great to see the respect it deserves (regardless of how it smells) LOL One thing I learned was that the trophy pigs have really callous front knees. The area is really barren and worn away. Most folks get into them and just shoot whichever one, but if you want a bigger JAVY, something to consider if you're at full draw or lookin' though a scope. Oh, and if you think you've killed a whopper and want the skull measured, don't boil it, just let the beetles eat the flesh... I can't wait to get out again in a week or so and chase them! Best of Luck - AzP&Y

Woo HOO! Tell Mark congrats and Very nice archery coues! Also to "SMILE" - I would be I also hate it when I have to get down on my hands and knees in the freezing cold snow and start tracking : ) LOL Great job Brian! I know you are counting down the days for you and your dad to get er' done (again) ! Thanks for sharing ! He surely put the "whack" on that buck! Doug

I never hunted 24A in the "glory days" , but Every time I'm in there I know there are incredible deer to be found. Personally, I'd stick a camera in there anyway. If it looks good, I'll stick with it (even with some lack of sign). Getting away into some more remote country , still beats any day at work -LOL I have also seen some pig sign, but not what I would expect. In fact when I sit the deer blind in that unit , the pigs always come. But the deer don't =LOL I have a pig tag in there in 2 weeks looking forward to some action and hopefully bucks chasing does Good luck! AzP&Y

With the multitude of trailcam problems in Arizona , most of which occur on public land someone has started a website: http://trailcamtrespasser.com It even allows you to post picutures of perps specific to each county in Arizona. I in NO WAY have any affiliation to this website, but I think it's fair to say that this has (and probably will always be) an issue throughout the country. It will be interesting to see how this plays out when someones picture(s) are posted across the internet. Here is the description of the website: THE ORIGINAL WEBSITE FOR POSTING TRAIL-CAM PHOTOS OF POACHERS, TRESPASSERS, AND THIEVES! A TRAIL CAM TRESPASSER WHAT EXACTLY IS A TRAIL CAM TRESPASSER? AS WITH MANY LANDOWNERS IN THE COUNTRY,WE ARE A GROUP THAT LOVES THE OUTDOORS AND WILDLIFE, AS WELL AS HUNTING AND FISHING. IN RECENT YEARS, HOWEVER, IT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE OF AN INCREASING NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF RESPECTIING OTHERS PRIVATE PROPERTY. MANY METHODS HAVE BEEN USED TO CURB THE PROBLEM, INCLUDING NO TRESPASSING SIGNS, PATROLLING, AND USE OF THE DEER DECOY WITH THE DNR (WHICH WORKED VERY WELL, THEY CAUGHT THREE POACHERS IN TWO DAYS IN THE SAME SPOT HERE. BUT THIS HAS NOT REALLY SLOWED DOWN THE INCREASING PROBLEM OF HUMAN ENCROACHMENT. IN ADDITION TO POACHING WHITETAILS, (PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SEEN IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT SHOOTING DEER OUT OF A FIELD WITH HEADLIGHTS SHOWN ON THEM) OTHER FORMS OF BAD BEHAVIOR ARE DUMPING TRASH,METH LABS AND MUSHROOM HUNTING WITHOUT ASKING PERMISSION THE EXCUSES EXPRESSED ARE RIDICULOUS " I HAVE HUNTED HERE ALL MY LIFE", "I THOUGHT THIS WAS STATE LAND", "WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT", " I DIDN'T SEE THE SIGNS" , I WAS JUST PANNING FOR GOLD" ETC. ETC. ETC. THE TRAIL-CAM IS A FANTASTIC DEVICE, IN THAT IS AN EXCELLENT WAY FOR PROPERTY OWNERS TO CONTROL OR EVEN PUT A STOP TO THIS BAD BEHAVIOR. WHAT BETTER WAY TO DETER A WOULD-BE POACHER OR THIEF THAN IF THEY THINK THEY MIGHT JUST BE GETTING THEIR PICTURE TAKEN? IF YOU ARE THINKING OF PURCHASING A TRAIL CAMERA AND ARE NOT SURE WHICH TYPE TO BUY, DEFINATELY GO WITH THE NEWER INVISIBLE FLASH TYPE CAMERA, AS THERE IS NO VISIBLE LIGHT AT NIGHT AND THE PERSON WILL HAVE NO IDEA HE IS GETTING HIS PICTURE TAKEN. SEVERAL MANUFACTURERS MAKE THIS TYPE OF CAMERA. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING ALL OF OUR INFRARED CAMERAS WITH THESE INVISIBLE FLASH TYPE OF CAMERAS, AS SEVERAL OF OUR INFRARED CAMS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED OR DELETED DUE TO THE PERSON SEEING THE RED LIGHTS AT NIGHT. THIS SHOULD HELP GET LOTS OF INTERESTING FOOTAGE IN THE YEARS TO COME! THIS WEBSITE, IN CONCLUSION , IS A SIMPLE TOOL TO HOPEFULLY HELP BRING OUT INTO THE LIGHT ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO RESPECT OTHERS PRIVATE PROPERTY, AND THE RIGHT OF FAIR CHASE TO THE GAME ANIMAL IN GENERAL.
