Javelina Meat--skinned-- harvested 2/8 on Ice and Ready ASAP
Maverick351 replied to azbullelkman's topic in Javelina
Kidso I actually started the thread so that is an automatic first dibs. If I didn't live in Gilbert I would gladly pick it up. But there were others on that thread from the Tucson area. -
Went to Freeman rd and only saw 2hunters today but was out from dark till 2pm and saw deer and a coyote and quail and doves but again skunked on javelinas

Those are great, I personally use one and love it. We've had them at HQ for a year now but only sold a couple. Seems like not enough people use them or know about them.

Naturegirl I promise your strings will be in soon and we will have it shooting beautiful bullet holes and ready for your next day out in no time.

Well only had themorning to hunt so the wife and I tried around some spots by Superior but saw 19 vehicles total in 3 spots we had been told about and a total of 1 pig but that was found dead on the road on the way home. Well have all day tomorrow so hoping for better luck

BTW I re read my previous post and I apologize for sounding snooty. I was typing from a smart phone while taking care of sick twin girls so I'm running on very little sleep.

You sir are correct, according to the pro's not the actual technicians who make a living doing just this. For some reason to me it makes no sense to make the arrow come out of the bow on a crooked path rather than straight down the center of the power stroke when basic aerodynamics and physics say that differently shaped objects should not fly the same. If you put vanes that are flexible on the back of an arrow to help steer the arrow what makes you think a rigid wing style object on the front won't steer it? If you are truly center shot and not torquing the bow and everything is in tune then common sense says adjust your sight since you probably won't be shooting much field points during the hunt. I understand the columns about this stuff are written by the pro's but usually (not always) do these guys actually do very little work on the bow themselves. The guy's who engineered the bow spent a ton of time trying to make it shoot properly and taking it out of their specs rarely makes it better yet simply disguises the real issue.

actually it's more likely to be cable stretch then string stretch but the other thing you need to look at is if you move the rest you are no longer shooting through the center and moving the rest is the absolutely wrong way to tune.broadhead if your timing of your cams are off and your rest is not set at center then everything else will falter from there. think of it this way if you're shooting a rifle and you're shooting different rounds and one round is heading to the left you don't move your barrel to the left to make compensation

BTW I was not trying to start a debate or upset anyone on here. I simply figured if someone doesn't want their javelina meat I would offer to take it off their hands. Thanks to those of you who understand.

Last year I had one guy donate his javi to me. He simply gutted it in field and threw a bag of ice in it, called me up and I drove down picked it up and did all the rest. I've also had people suggest I offer to reimburse the cost of the hunters tag fees if they give me their pig but I do not know of the legality or ethicality of that
-
Just curious but when you set a trap how often do you check it? How long do you wait between checks?
-
Thanks

When you set a trap how long do you wait to check it? Also how long between each time you check it?

Well for one my wife is an incredible cook. We have fixed javelina for several friends who positive how bad these animals taste but they don't know they had it till we tell them. Two it's been a slow year as between not much time to hunt and kids battling the wife and I haven't tagged out so no meat yet. The whole family loves the meat. Not trying to get pity by any means as I for sure don't want that. But figured if there are those who don't want it I might as well offer to take it.
-
Well I figured after seeing another thread offering to give one away it reminded me of a customer I had in the shop who told me he and his family always tag out and none of them will use it so they simply throw it away. To me that's such a waste.

Im in Gilbert and will gladly drive out and pick it up. Pm sent

Thumb-trigger Release Aids for Hunting
Maverick351 replied to forepaw's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I personally use one but only because I suffer from target panic. Almost daily do I have people come to the shop asking about them. Most everyone thinks they are a cure all. Reallity is every release should be shot with back tension and I'd venture to say most archers do not shoot the release they have properly. In the two years I've worked at the shop I could count on one hand the people I've encountered that use a wrist strap release the right way. When you are at full draw your finger should wrap around the trigger having the crease of your first knuckle laying across the front of the trigger. Then once gentle pressure is applied you should be pulling through the shot using back tension. Doing this not only properly releases the trigger but increases accuracy because the shot becomes a natural surprise allowing you to simply focus on the target not looking at it and waiting till your pin is close then slapping or punching the trigger. That is the reason why some people are not as accurate at longer distances. Punching a trigger does the same thing in archery it does with rifles yet everyone knows not to do it on a gun. -
Vortex Razor HD 12x50 vs Vortex Kiabab 15x56
Maverick351 replied to couesfreak23's topic in Optics and tripods
Honestly I'm fortunate enough to be able to have had BOTH on tripods in the field (not a parking lot) for comparison. Since that day I've recommended the razor over anything else. I personally will be buying them at tax time. -

Vortex Razor HD 12x50 vs Vortex Kiabab 15x56
Maverick351 replied to couesfreak23's topic in Optics and tripods
My personal opinion is the 12x50 razor hands down. You lose very little magnification but you gain clarity and a lightweight more compact bino
