Dude, You've kinda used my name (spelling) You might not want to be confused as me, due to the fact that I'm not known as a Fluffy PC guy. Welcome, DH...aka ...Couesnut

    December tag gripe

I agree... Keep the bowhunters to Jan. only. It's not always about opportunity. The last 2 Dec. tags I had were any thing but a quality hunt. Bowhunters everywhere. I get way back in as well, Gun or Bow. DH
  4. Lance, Very nice. I was scouting this wk. end & saw you're name on a sign in sheet. Are those 36c bucks?? I'l be in there next wk. end plus DH

    Unit 22 Elk

C n' S, So with that thinking, you're ok with the Goats, Sheep, & Burros, That destroy our Desert sheep & their habitat." Natural selection"... Please.. This is 2007 & we humans make the selection. 20 years from now there will be complaints about not being able to get drawn for Kaibab elk. DH

    Unit 22 Elk

I've said this before,Too dang many elk!! Give everbody a tag, then we might get our deer herds back in shape. Back in the 80s we had good muley hunting in 22N Then a few late seoson bulls started to show up. In 88' I drew one of only 5 tags. Dec. hunts then, no early, no archery, no people. Great hunt killed a 340" bull. Fast forward.... Tons of Elk. Tons of complaining people, on tons of Quards. Very few deer. You elk hunters crack me up. You complain cause you can't get drawn. So they raise more elk & give more tags,So you'll be happy. Now there's to many people, & not enough 400" bulls. Like I said ,give everybody a tag, make the seoson long.& help the deer herds. After all this is a DEER hunting site. Anybody else agree??? DH

    Diary

I've been keeping a log of all my trips in the outdoors since the early 70s. Hunting, fishing, camping, whatever. some very detailed some not so much. Some sketches too. I also have pics. of almost every camp I've ever been in since the 60s. It's pretty fun to go back & read them from time to time. Hope my Great grandkids like them. I think I'm on Vol. # 7 DH
  10. Down in 36A this past wk.end & had one heck of a time with my son Seth. He took his 3rd pig , From our same ol' pig camp. We jumped a bunch of tanks, killing 7 ducks. in 2 days. His first & mine in a long time. Got into a ton of Scalies, which I also had'nt killed in years. I'm not sure who had more fun??!!! I've been chasing big bucks to much these long years. Reminded me of the OLD days. Except for all the trash everywhere. & the Scrachbacks" sneaking around camp. What a mess!!!! Will do alot more of it next year, To dang fun. DH

    Cactus Coues ?

I've looked into this FREAK" for years & have posted the ?? on this forum in the past. I believe a TRUE Cactus Coues is extremely rare.( Not so in other spiecies). I saw a pic. posted on here a while back, but not sure if it was one? Or just a past injury. I know of only three ever killed. One is a 158" Beast killed by a friend in New Mex. Another is a 105" 2 year old I helped a friend kill in old Mex. And a uncle? of Bullwidgen" killed one but striped the velvet. I have seen kill site pics of it , & talked to him about the buck. Any body eles have Docs. of this TRUE rareity???? DH

    point restrictions

I must disagree with the last post. We have lost far to many mule deer, partly do to the rise in elk #s. I think the Az G&F should increase the tags by 50% or more. That would make more elk hunters happy. Just see what happens to the Kaibab in 10 yrs. if we don't exterminate the elk up there. I't's already happend in central Az. But my name is Couesnut ...Not Elknut...

    Cactus Coues ?

The 158" buck I was refering to, is Jay's. He took it in New. Mex back in the 80s. There is a pic. of it in his book. It's a stear that weighted something like 160lbs. DH

    Coues World record at Cabellas

The full body mounts they have in the "museum" are the most pathetic I seen. I don't think who ever did them is from here, & knows what a big Coues looks like. They need redone!!!
  19. It took 28 yrs of the draw to get that antelope I've so wanted Right F^&^%ING ON!!!!! And some of you complain you can't get drawn after 5or 6 yrs. Oh ya, both me & my son got WT. tags..... 36a, 36c
  20. I have a ??? & some comments, Where was this survey i never could find it ....DUHH.... I've bow hunted for 35 yrs. (not as much lately) & i don't get why some guys want to hunt WT in Dec. & compete with the gun hunts. Rarely is the rut going that early. Bow hunting has become so popular in the last 10 plus yrs. It's to crowed as it is. Move it to ONLY Jan. when the rut is on, & Sept. when they are batchlerd up & can be patternd. Be happy with 2 months man! I would love to see #22 Dec. tags reduced. I drew that tag a couple of yrs ago, & it was a cluster F*. Due to the Fire, Forest Serv. closers, Tons of rain, the close prox. to Phx. & the Bow season being open. Plus Recreationalist, Quads, Siteseers, Bikers,Hikers & Tweekers, There were crowds everywhere. I could go on & on about the Quallity of deer hunting in AZ. these days....Too dang many YAHOOS". If the raised the price of a Dec. tag to 300.00$ it would be fine with me. Coues deer have become very popular & the quallity has gone down hill. I remember when there was over 100,000 deer tags & I rarely saw anyone in the field????????It seems like every Point. Tit & ridge has 4 guys glassing from it. Allright I'm losing it ....To much Typing... Need a beer.. Thanks DH

    "Dos Venados" from Mexico!

??????? Why is it if a guy has a s**t hunt with a rip-off outfitter, everyone NEEDS to know his name. But if a guy has a great hunt & wants to share it, & brag on that outfitter, He is slammed or deleted if that outfitter is not a Sponser" I want to know about the good, as well as the bad !!! It's just Info. not advertising. DH

    I'm getting excited!!!

coosefan, I am not sure what the current laws in Chihuahua are or where you will be crossing. But make dang sure when crossing back into the U.S. that you have ALL of you're Docs. ... For Sonora it has been, Lic. Tag, contract. transport paper, All of these must match the ranch owners #s, Customs decleration & be signed by all . It might be all this, or more or less, It's based on that Mex. states Laws & Regs. They have changed many times in the past. But it does seem to be alot less this year, And getting better. Just make sure you're outfitter gives you everthing when you're leaving. The USFWS has'nt always been up to speed on what they want or need. You don't want to be sited for a violation of the Lacey Act & have you're head confiscated, do to a paperwork misunderstanding. You might call the USFWS at 505-248-7889 to get the current Regs. of what is needed. DH

    I'm getting excited!!!

I also was going to get this Mex. forum going again... What outfitter are you going with???? I've been waiting for the right oppertunity in Chihuahua. You could be in the middle of Mecca" on that new ranch, OR It might have been pounded by all the ranchers family/ cowboys. I would'nt hunt it more then 3 or 4 days, you'll know if the bucks are there. Then i would go enjoy the ranch beds & that fine Mex. cooking. The timeing is perfect as the Rut in Mex. can go into March depending on how far South you are. Take ALL your optics. No ????? But if you are flying, do not check them. Carry on only, airline baggage carriers don't care whats in your bag. Be patient with the Culture as things can be a cluster F^%$.. But enjoy... you'll have a BLAST. I'm headed to Sonora the last wk. of Jan. .... Can't wait.... DH
