camp entertainment with "the goat boys"

This is one of the best post in a while!! I thought back when I was a kid and our goats. Wow I think I might rather pack a elephant out of the deepest hole than have a goat into and eating everything ha ha! They do make great entertainment just don't like my feet sticking out of the sleeping bag because the goat thought it was a great idea to eat it!! I so wanted to eat that goat for dinner after that but it was my bag not my dads so it was just funny to him. It took me years to find the humor in that. All joking aside that is a great project Good luck.

    Taxidermist Warning

Let me start by saying Great looking bird! Sorry that you are so unsatisfied! So let me get this right. You got this mounted by Rick on gift certificate that he donated out of the kindness of his heart "it cost him money out of his pocket to have someone else do it for him". Got it back in a normal time frame. It looks great. And you are trying to hurt his business and run him down just because you did not get it fast enough!??? I have seen his work and it looked good. And to talk about him as a person. He is the type of guy that will come help a guy that he has never even talked to pack his sheep out of a nasty place at night for twelve hours and never say a cross word! If your post says anything it speaks volumes of you. Sorry I just have a tough time with people that can't see how blessed they are.

    My Flintlock Buck

This is the second buck with my flintlock. My first was a spike years ago with one that was built in 1840s. I hunt with a rifle that was built in 1852-1854 the most that is a caplock I love this rifle but it came time to retire it a year ago so I have been trying different rifles for a replacement. This rifle was built by a good friend in 1960s and he gave it to me last year. I have a two inch group with it at sixty yards of shooting sticks and a three inch group with a rock solid rest, tons of time and no wind at a hundred yards. There are guys that are way better with a flintlock than I that are good enough they don’t even use safety glasses and still punch paper all day at a 100 yards offhand! The biggest issue I have with the old rifles and round balls is they wind drift like mad. This buck is one that my wife really wanted but she only had one day to hunt and never seen this buck. I passed this buck up on the archery hunt for a buck that just vanished after I missed him. I had this buck walk right up a buck that I had slipped up on and was just watching "he was way to young". I was actually about ready to try to sneak out and go glass the point next when I spotted him walking in. So I just sat there in the open on my butt and waited for him to give the shot then I was going back and forth with myself if I wanted to shoot him or not when the rifle went off and took out the top of his heart.
  9. Just thinking if there was anyone that knows of anyone getting a coues with a flintlock someone here would know. So lets hear about it? I was lucky enough to take a nice buck with a flinter and would like to know how many others have been able to get one with their flintlock. I will post pictures of my buck when I get a way to get pics on the computer.

    21 memory card swap

I was in 21 Saturday the 30th scouting for one of the OE4All hunts and found a trail camera that I thought was a freinds. The cam was laying in the mud facing in the air so I put it back in the rocks where it looked to come from and switched out the cards to save my friend a trip in. I texted him to let him know when I had service to find out it was not his! I had my one year old with me and needed to get her home. As soon as I got her home I loaded up my quad to save my truck as much as I could and hauled rear back to replace the card. I could not belive that in the four hours since I there someone had gone in and retriretrieved the cam! If you had your card replaced with a different one that was in 21 please PM me so I can get this backyou. There is not much on it for pics just one bear one mule deer and cow and elk bellies but I really want this to go back to the owners.
  11. After years of taking the back burner to my other clients and the kids I made up my mind to help my wife get her deer. I glassed four bucks the day before season started and bedded them down. We were able to find them the first thing the next morning and the two mile stock started with my six month old on my back. About a mile into the stock we come to the realization that my boy was not going to stop cooing and talking so I sent my wife to a tank that the deer were watering at and my son and I would head off in the opposite direction. A couple hours later I got the call she had her deer down and that he had dropped in his tracks. She had shot the smallest of the four but she could not be happier. She had made the perfect shot with her 160 year old rifle and it was the first time that she was able to use it on a hunt. This allowed me to take the young lady from OE4A out to get her deer so it all worked out perfectly.

    What do do you think.

A little off the topic but what about the mule deer Coues cross breed deer?? I know they are real and happen more than most think. Are they in a different class like a mule or? I belive these two bucks to be twin brothers that were born to a mule deer doe. I had pictures of them nursing on my old computer.

    Turkey camp 2013

I was up on the Marvin Robbins Memorial Youth Turkey Camp this weekend and had a great time. There were some good seminars on Friday and Saturday and the food was really good. I think that there were about 300 campers and hunters that came up for the hunt. We only had about 30 mentors that were helping out with this hunt this year and could have used some more but I think most of the first time hunters got to go out with a mentor on this trip. Some of them had to go out on the afternoon hunts do to the lack of mentors; so next year I will post all the info for those of you that might like to help. You do not have to be a good Turkey hunter “I am far from that myself” just have a little experience in the woods. I was happy to see some of my fellow OE4A guides out there helping out they are all a great bunch to have around. I was able to take out 9 kids this weekend “yes 9” and was blessed with great kids and parents every time. The kids were very mindful of their weapons and eagar to learn. It was just a great experience. I hope to see a lot of you there next year helping out.

    post your dinks

I got this buck on my way home from work. He was a real dink feild dressed about 45 to 50 pounds with no fat on him. My wife's and my dad's deer from the same area were just butterballs. I jerked the whole deer and ended up with about 18 pounds of jerky that was gone by the end of the last Catch A Dream hunt.

    Thoughts on Baiting

Tonto Rim thank you for the post and your service with the G.F.D. but I think you and a bunch of people are still missing one Big point. How will this affect others! I guide for a couple of different originations that take kids with life threaten illnesses on hunts. I have guided kids that were full quadriplegic to a young man that was blind at birth and I have found that it was imperative that I use baiting on a couple of these hunts and still knew that it was next to impossible to harvest game. If you would have asked me how I feel about baiting before I started guiding disadvantaged hunters I would have told you a ton of reasons to outlaw it. I now know there are people that need different things than I so I try not to look at it from just my point of view. I know there is guys that spend a ton of money just to kill the animal and there always will but most of them miss the hunt and won’t ever understand what hard hunt is about. I just ask to look at all directions before banning something. Why do people feel the need to tell others what is better for them?

    Lost Hound?

If they on the side of the interstate no hounds man would care if you got them off the road. That is a bad place for a dog. It should have phone numbers on the tags. The freeway was one of my biggest concerns when I ran my dogs. I pray the owner finds his dog soon in good shape.

big mule deer from the recent past

I remember that big ugly thing. Huge buck but it was an ugly mount I know why she would not let it in her house. You were the happiest guy in the world that day you got it. We had just found that big buck a couple weeks before that I think and it was a little guy compared to that one. I had a picture of you holding it but it was in the fire with all my pics and heads. Sorry. Good memories though.

coconino forest changes starting in may

LOL!!!! They can "will" NOT inforce their rules as it is!! If they want to ticket me for going on a "closed" road they need to walk up to me and give the ticket not drive!!! They are the worst offenders of their own rules. They need to start making the loging companys chip their slash and quit making the tax payers pay to burn them and kill us with the smoke. Oh what about our Illegals cutting wood wherever and whenever they want and they wont even respond. I can't wait till they tell me "I can't drive one of the dissabled kids to his or her downed game." I hope the Lord is with me that day. May God be with us

how do you display your sheds

Joel, All I did was tack up my old blankets and use fishing line. I had to use 20# line and one peace per antler and went to one nail that is in a stud per side. I used the line for the lower sheds to get the higher ones faced the way I wanted. Be sure to use heavy line I had them tied up for a while and I think the line just got weak over time and started breaking. I just need to get my phone to send pictures right side up now.
