Use to use the latest mechanicals that came out. Rockets, Game Trackers, Nap ect. Never had a problem with penetration or arrows glancing off animals or with the blades not opening. The mechanicals just were too much of a hassle with rubber bands, replacing practice blades, noisy in the quiver ect. Changed to muzzy 4 blade 100 grain and no more worries. Fly straight and penetrate well. Can buy replacements nearly anywhere. Simplified my life. Will probably never change. Bob

Muley, I feel for you. It seems like you got hosed real bad not only by the GF officer, but by the district attorney or was it the state attorney general office. Was the 12,000 in fees just for legal expenses for your own lawyer. That seems ridiculously high for a case that never went to trial. If this is true I think you may of got hosed by your own lawyer also. Please forgive me if I am making wrong assumptions. I am completely ignorant to your case, but would like to tell my hunting attorney friends about your case and ask what they think you should do. Bob

AzG&F reports low compliance reporting Archery deer harvest

Bill, Someday it will be a lottery for all hunts, but I think at least before the new rules it was possible to draw a rifle tag every year. All you had to do is put in an October tag as your second choice in the 100% draw areas(not 33 and 34A). So forgive me if I don't feel sorry for those who don't draw a tag. In the last ten years I have drawn what some would say are premium Muzzleloader tags, but the other 8 years it was stinky October tags that nobody seems to want. When they eventually move to an archery lottery I will put in for that only if they keep the generous seasons. I am just praying it is not for awhile. Bob -

Keith is right. A draw for Archery means one less tag I would buy every year. Of coarse they could double the price of all tags to recoup their losses. I want to keep the hunts the way they are. Please follow the rules and report your bow kills. Successful August archery hunters might have to eat rifle tags that they have drawn if they have no one they can legally sign the tag over to. This is why I am for a more liberal sign over policy. I believe if you tagged out in August Archery you should be able to sign over your Rifle tag that you paid for, but can no longer legally use to any licensed hunter that did not draw a tag. Bob -

I guess I flunked the 04-05 quiz. I promise to do better this year. Was the rule in effect for the 04 season also? If I was lucky enough to get an archery deer in January of 05 I would not of reported it. This makes me feel sick. I guess I will spend more time on the actual regulations and less with the draw odds. Bob -
You guys are scaring me. October sucks, please don't give in to the man. If everyone puts in for october then G+F will say to themselves " see we were right when we screwed up coues hunting." Besides I hunt October every year and it is just awful.Nothing but drunks and endless ATV traffic. If everyone puts in for October then drawing a tag will not be a sure thing for me. Please don't mess up my plans. Put in for December and November. Thats when the bigboys come out. Bob

First of all Doug you are right that it is the hunters responsibility to be aware of all regulations. Ignorance is no excuse, but I bought my 2005 archery tag in December of 2004. The regulations came out in May of 2005. Also let me state I am one who prints the 80 pages or so on my computer and read it cover to cover and then study the draw odds statistics for weeks. I will be ready for your quiz. I noticed the change in the archery reporting at that time and I also believe it was in the "New Regulations Section." Yet I think it is unfair for G+F to expect all hunters to be as deranged as me especially if you could of had a legal license and legal tag 6 months before the new regulation. Now Traveler when I used the word "Significant " I did not mean to imply it was a large amount or a majority etc. I meant it in the mathematical sense that significant means a measurable amount. Which seems appropriate with all the % s you used and Bill's Quadratic equation . For myself I have drawn a deer tag ten out of the last ten years. (I enjoy watching guys in Wisconsin orange walking around in the catclaw, in between my immigrant sightings.) I have also had an archery deer tag ten out of ten years. (Nearly 2 1/2 months of hunting a year! I love Arizona). So If i was a better hunter and of lesser moral charachter I believe I could of harvested more than one deer in a year. In addition I have seen, as we probablly all have, people hunting with questionable ethics; road hunting, familys of ten all hunting in an area with 50 tags and a 10% draw odds ect ect . I stand by my modified statement a "Measurable % of hunters take advantage of the situation and harvest two deer. Bob -
Maybe I am ignorant about the commission, but I believe most of the commission was appointed by Republican GOVENORS.The new appointee is obviously unqualified (Govs Girlfriend?), but she could be a blessing in disguise.I think she may actualy listen to hunters more and be more maleable than previous commission people like Chilton/Gilstrap ect who wanted to turn Arizona hunting into New Mexico. Land owner tags, Big cattle ranch etc. etc. The New appointee, Ms. Tree hugger at least states she supports hunting (NRA endorsment) and using actual Biology in Gf policy, which I agree with. Even if it may cost me personally from killing something in these drought years. What we need to do is show our strength at the ballot box and prove by our VOTES that hunting is a legitmate and viable means of keeping our biological diversity . Ted for prez. Bob

I misunderstood also. I was hoping to get tapes from Alpine 1989.

First off I think that GF is setting us up with what we all know is going to happen sooner or latter. A drawing for Archery. If GF wants diligent compliance with this why don't they have a handout, a little flyer, when the archery tag is sold. Instead of the new regulation buried in the Regs. Ignorance is no excuse, but when the rules change GF needs to bear some responsibility and show some diligence in getting the word out. Of coarse, if there is no compliance then bowhunting needs more regulation . Lets be truthful, a significant % of hunters take advantage of the situation and really harvest two deer a year. I believe many of these poaching violations would be remedied with a more liberal sign over policy. The sign over policy, even you ardent GF haters have to admit, is a great policy. If it were more liberal, maybe more of you would report that 75 inch buck you got in August with your bow; and Grandpa could use your December Whitetail tag that you waited 4 years for. -
Am I wrong or dosen't other states have a 10% rule also. I believe Utah and Nevada are at 10 %. They have seperate drawings for residents and non residents.Plus I belive they also have designated trophy areas where non-resident opportunity is well below 10%. Just because we have many trophy quality animals in Elk and Antelope everyone wants Arizona to be wide open. Don't forget we still have over the counter archery deer tags. I might be greedy , but I support our 10% rule however instituted. Bob

I hunted northern Michigan once in 1986. Coming from someone who has only hunted in the west, I can say I was in a state of Shock and Awe First off every single person on the major highway is in hunter orange. I mean everybody. Thousands of trucks and cars all hunters, no civillians, in a major traffic jam. It was the Woodstock of hunting. I think I remember the radio station hyping the hunt claiming there was over 3/4 of a million people taking part and updating the hunt with an actual death count from hunting accidents. (The last I heard from the DJ is that it was a good year with only 3 deaths.) At first light of opening day, I am not exaggerating, World War Three breaks out. I was out of my mind with fear. I couldn't believe so many shots could be fired without a stray hitting me. People were shooting bursts of shoots. They were shooting clips. 5, 10, 15 ROUNDS AT A TIME. They seem to be coming from single weapons. Most hunters that I saw were carrying AR 15 type assult rifles. I believe the only explanation for this onslaght was that most hunters were drive hunting and single individuals were trying to fill tags for their whole camp. I can't confirm this though because I was hiding in a ground blind trying not to pee my pants. The great battle would die down for lunch and then begin again around 3:30. You may did find this ironical. With the Thousands and thousands of rounds shot. I only saw one extremely frightened spike in three days of hunting. I see him, I raise my rifle, I pull the trigger, I turn the safety off and run after the deer. I pursue him up an embankment. I see him 100 yards away. I hear a single shot( I believe the only one of the hunt). I hear some whoops. I walk dejectedly back to my trench. I mean blind. When the Michigan hunter says I think I understand why.Bob

I think the main problem with feeders in Arizona on Public land is cattle. Where in Arizona could you set up a feeder and not attract a nice herd of Slow Elk. Your baiting could get expensive real fast. Bob

Can I swap my October coues tag for your early bow Elk tag?

Minutemen to Patrol AZ border in April
bobbyo replied to az4life's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I think the Minutemen are showing disrespect to our hardworking border patrol. I mean the guys who punch the clocks. It is not like our agents are sitting in their SUV wondering where all the illegal's are. "Gee Fred what we need is some retiree's in lawn chairs pointing out where some illegal's are so we can appreehend them." In the Sasabe corridor they are up to their armpits in illegal's. I think they are at capacity. So everytime a Minuteman apprehends some illegals an agent will have to stop his catching of illegals to process the minutemen's illegals. Isn't that showing up our hardworking agents. Bob -
Wow 119 is impressive, Could you give us some basic scores. Like brow tine, main beam and spread. I think that will enable us to put it in better perspective. When I said below 90, I was just judging from the little picture and the animal looked like an old 2x3 with carp like crabbage (is that a word?) and a couple kickers. I realize now that the tines are much longer then I first thought. Anyway, to me the mass is everything and that would be a trophy of a life time no matter what the score. Bob
-
This kind of rack are my favorite. I hope to shoot one some time, but as far as score, I believe it would have a hard time breaking 90 unless it is much wider than it looks. Wish I could help with a picture, but i don't know either.

Minutemen to Patrol AZ border in April

What a joke. I want to see them patrol when it is June and July. Also it could make it more dangerous for us hunters if smugglers see a threat from guys out in the hills in Camo. Bob -
Not me Dogman, they have to be lookers with lots of class. Here is a picture of my best girl. Bob

You guys are soooo sensitive. It makes me want to watch a cowboy movie. Poor Dogman will be afraid to type. By the way we called a guy in college dogman, but he never caught a lion even though he ran after a lot of hounds. He also had a hard time identifying the reproductive organs on his prey. Let me apologize ahead of time to all those I may have offended. If you are a: houndsman, dog, hounddog, cowboys, gay cowboy, wyoming cowboy, sheepherder, shed hunter, guy in college who likes unattractive women, transvestite, transgender, hermaphordite, hunter, anti-hunter, a hunter that shoots two little kittens or a hunter who can only hunt lions in the snow. I am trully sorry. I dont want to ruffle any feathers. Bob

Why not have the raffle in Mexico. I am not trying to be a smart alec. We could send the money to a Mexico address. Draw the winner in Mexico. A Mexican deer hunt raffle in Mexico.

Sounds great except for that getting married part.

I really think that calling deer works best on solitary bucks. I usually only try rattling or calling bucks that I can visually see. I have never been sucessful at getting a buck to leave does. They usually just ignore the commotion or run in the opposite direction. Needless to say I don't even try anymore. I have called in single bucks usually dinks that looked like they were smelling for hot does. They are usally walking erratically with their nose to the ground much like a hound dog. These deer will usually come running when you call them. I have had pretty much the same experience with Carp also. This being said I have never been able to arrow any of these deer. They were either too small for January or so nervous and jumpy (probably worried about Mr. big coming out and kicking their butt) that I couldn't get a clean shot off. I think the best set up would be to have a partner, one calling and one shooter. They are good at picking up the exact location of the calling. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck blind calling for Coues in a ground blind.
