bobbyo replied to SuperiorBowHunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
All these Hoyt freaks are killing me. Try them all means try other bows besides Hoyt. Right? Bob -

Forget about it! Take it from me you are driving yourself nuts for no reason. If you are getting the same tear consistently. One after another. It is most likely Arrow spine. Move the rest back to as close to central as possible. Do the walk back method or french modified( what I use.). If arrows hits on centerline you will be fine. In fact you will be breaking arrows. If you insist on bullets through paper there are numerous things you could do to use the present arrows, but you are going to be giving up something. Probably will not get maximum speed from your bow. You will be changing tiller, poundage. nock point, rest center ect ect. How much time do you have? Bob

So Hoyt steals Darton cams and a bow tech riser(Mid limb support)and that makes this the best new bow? I guess if you steal the best parts from the best manufactures people will say you are innovative. The only thing that is truly Hoyt is that stupid riser bridge around the handle. I hate that thing. Mathews still rules even though they are now stealing PSE'cam, who stole it from darton. Who probably stole it frome someone else. Copy it if if you can. I mean catch us if you can. Bob -

YOU Obviously know nothing about Bow Shooting. That is not a BEER Belly! That is a sophisticated high end " BOW STABLIZER". It helps balance windage alignment and significantly reduces vibration. It could even provide help with that dreaded fourth axis of shooting alignment. Bob -

They have skid marks? Now that's funny! CNS you are a turncoat. In addition that is a funny looking coues in your avatar. What are you guys cooking up on the rim? Bob -
Is that all pellets on the market? I know it is true for Pyrordex and 777. I did the math and at least a couple years ago you paid about twice as much for the pellets as for the same amount of powder. I use 100 grains of loose which is a convenient size and my gun likes it. This is equal to 125 grains in pellets. 100/120: 125/150. http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/forums/viewto...=97&t=66729

The best bullet is the one that shoots the best. That includes sabots. Hayen 120 grains loose equals 150 grain pellet. The 150 grain in pellet only has 120 grains of powder. How do they get away with calling it 150 grain, Well they say their pellets are equivalent to 150 grains of blackpowder.

A statement on archery elk opening dates from the ABA
bobbyo replied to AZMSK's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I agree that the more bugles you hear increases the quality of the hunt, but if it increases the success rate will it not lower the amount of tags available? Less tags means less chance of drawing. Which means no bugles for tagless people. In essence to promote this change is also promoting less September archery tags. I think drawing one of the tags is hard enough and harvesting an elk with a bow in September is easy enough. Do we really need to make September archery elk hunting any easier? It is "hunting". I would be against this proposal. Bob Ps. I guess I agree with the ABA board also. I finally read the last page. Duh. -
January 2010... another one to remember!

C+S: Your annual Coues murder spree impresses the heck out of me. The numbers and quality is beyond impressive. I don't know if people realize what a great accomplishment this is. That must be one great unit you hunt in . Bob -
No Miley for me. I was bumping classic Wayne Newton. Danke Schoen may be the greatest song of all time. Once the lyrics are in your head they don't come out. Won't you sing with me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF3b_HopO_0...feature=related Danke Schoen, darling Danke Schoen. Thank you for all the joy and pain. Picture shows, second balcony, was the place we'd meet, second seat, go Dutch treat, you were sweet. Danke Schoen, darling Danke Schoen.

Sure I fancied this buck for myself, but I couldn't be happier that my best buddy Martin put this bad boy down. We got a few photos of him in July. We nicknamed him “Mittens” for obvious reasons. Martin hunted the whole early hunt waiting for him to show up. There were many 14 hour days without one sighting. He put in over 100 hours with nothing to show for it. He filled his rifle tag with a young frustration buck in November. January 1st he was back hunting in “Mitten’s” home turf. He had doubts if he would ever see Mittens again, but figured it was worth a few days to find out. After passing (not getting clear shots ) on some nice bucks, Mittens finally shows up on January second . Some how he was able to keep his cool and shoot this buck at 13 yards. He made a perfect shot and the buck piled up with in sight of his stand. I could not be happier for him. He has had some hard hunting luck the past few years, but I think he can stop whining about that now. Congratulations Martin, Bob Unfortunately 3 inches were broken off of Mittens main beam, but he still scores well. What is your guess on the score?

Well I thought the pictures told it all. I choked. Let me give some background. My friend hunted this scrape line/trail a week before I did. He got a glimpse of this buck and told me he saw a drop tine buck that may go 90. He didn't have a picture of it on his trail camera to show me. He also said he saw two other mature bucks in the area that he did have pictures of. They were nice, so I decided to hunt the afternoon at this spot. Since it was a quicky, I only brought my lawn chair. No blind, No tree stand. I set up 45 yards from the scrape behind a blown down stump. Right at sunset I see a doe. Following close behind is Mr. Droptine. Once I got a good look at his rack I completely lost it. Buck fever to the max. Arms and legs were shaking uncontrollably. I kept whispering "he is only 90, he is only 90,"trying to calm my nerves. Making it worse he hangs up for a time, two steps from my shooting lane. (seemed like 10 minutes, but probably only 2). He enters my shooting lane perfectly broadside. Right in front of the camera. Somehow I get the bow drawn with my shaky arms and go through my routine. Anchor point, bubble, pick spot, release, follow through. I think I used my 40 pin to account for elevation. Arrow sails a few inches over his back. He gives me a disgusted look and walks slowly away. THe second picture is me checking for non-existent blood, I'm not crying . A few days later my "good buddy" sends me an email entitled "The Agony of Defeat" with these two pictures. He thinks this is funny! Actually it could of been a really awful event. I am really thankful I missed completely and did not wound him. Thanks for letting me share. Bob

Nice buck! nothing goes to waste in the desert. Next time I hope you get some steaks out of it. I think you played the percentages and did the right thing. You do not want to push a gut shot buck. I think the coyotes finding your deer was really bad luck. Bob

All right I will tell you the secret. You need to get hyper aggressive. You don't need scent maskers or sneaky feet or camo. All you need is a good pair of running shoes. The strategy is to blow stalk after stalk. Get the animals moving and basically walk the buck down. This time of year, late rutt ,the buck is dead tired. He has not been sleeping for an entire month. He is stupider than normal and he will be lagging behind the does. When you are on the stalk/walk you do not want to go directly after the buck. You need to find and walk after the lead doe. Don't waste hours playing peek a boo. Just walk at the lead doe like you are a rancher out doing your job. Walk at an angle so the doe will bugger in a direction that is not back toward the buck. You want the doe to draw the buck past you. Use a steady quick pace like you are working. Sure you will bugger them out, but watch how the buck will follow right behind them. Relocate and repeat. The buck will fall farther and farther behind. If you find a nice set up,after you bugger the lead doe, you will need to sprint into a good ambush position and get ready to shoot . Good places are at ridge lines and saddles. They often stop in these areas. DOn't shoot at a moving deer. Wait for it to stop and give you a good shot at its vitals. If your lucky you can often get a 50 to 70 yard shot. Now this sounds like more fun than playing frozen camo man with 16 set of eye's watching you. right? Bob
