Josh my vote would be for a leupold vari x 2 6to 18 great eye relief target knobs and lots of adjustment $550 you would not be dissappointed

A couple of my freinds have the steiner 20x 80 and they are very nice glass and not too heavy they are bulky though. .

Jerry one thing that i experienced recently with the imr powders is that they tend to be temp sensitive, It took an extra shot on carls elk the high that day was 22 degrees and snow he shot low. and at our last match i shot low by almost 2 full moa. When we worked our loads it was october 20 to 30 degrees warmer. that may come in to play on a december hunt and just something to be aware of not a deal breaker

Im not an expert by any means but that savage you have can be upgraded fairly easy, you can get a synthetic stock for it or a laminate. you can even change the barrell without a gun smith, I higly recommend the luepold put it in some burris signature rings and your good to go. check out savage shooters loads of info there but anew rifle is always nice. GOOD LUCK

Awesome I had the same hunt dint find any bucks till monday my son missed and on the last day well lets say the fever got me . I guess when you quit gettin the fever its time to take up another hobbie.
